I've been getting a TON of questions about the new kitchen so I thought it would be fun to do an update, give you a tour of the farm while I'm at it, and of course pay a visit to Georgina, Spencer, and Beau!
Let me know if there're any videos you'd like to see!

Corn needs to be planted in a minimum of 6 rows because it pollinates by the breeze. Remember that blueberries are like apples in the sense that they need a different variety nearby to pollinate; most are not self pollinating. You may want to consider renting out any plots you can't find a use for, farmers are usually looking for a few more good acres.

It's all so amazing!! What a change for you all. I would suggest getting in touch with your local extension office. They will have the most appropriate information for you regarding best practices for taking care of your property. They might have classes and workshops on property management as well. I'm part of the Master Gardeners here where I live, and all counties and cities (even LA and Manhattan) have extension offices and Master Gardeners. They may be able to suggest an appropriate arborist to help you with your trees. So exciting!! And the kitchen is really coming along.

@EnfinLibreNM
@EnfinLibreNM 3 жыл бұрын
@@zeynand4039 Yes. Bears love fruit of any kind that's native to their environment. The bears around me will break into vehicles to get to food, especially fruit. I have 5 ft. fences all around and they'll actually climb the fence to get to food (especially around late summer and fall). Here's a funny video of a drunk bear in Colorado. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d5aIptSgktTDcXk.html&feature=emb_logo By the way, I have a Great Pyrenees and she's pretty good at keeping the bears, mountain lions, bobcats, etc. out of the yard. It’s really lovely to see your pure joy John. Good for you! My input in trees is this don’t plant too many! I live on a property in the PacNW with pie cherry trees, probably 20 trees, it’s overwhelming during the season, these are followed by plums maybe six of those, and one lone apricot, then early apples maybe a dozen trees of various sizes & characteristics, then come the pears and Asian pears, about 15-30 of those, then a few late apples hang out until winter hits. You cannot imagine the quantity of fruit I’m talking about here. All delicious but so much at once it’s really tough to find uses for it all. So definitely select trees with a variety of flavors but also variety of ripening times to spread them out as long as possible. Of course plant all the berries too! That big field could be a ideal berry farm location. But you really need to add dicks, they are perfect for pest control . I haven’t heard where you’ve moved, but it’s gorgeous! Congratulations!

I've been waiting for this... what a beautiful place to live, the boys will love it, plus dogs and goats to play with, wonderful and organic produce! I understand your excitement with the timber floor, nothing like them, warm in winter cool in summer. My late father had a sawmill in northern NSW (Australia) I live in the family home that he built himself in Sydney in the mid 1950's and I remember the beautiful smell of the timber. All cypress pine even the fences, that are now gone, but the smell - heavenly when cut or in the fire, hard to get now but used the same timber in an extension - can't wait to see yours finished......

Wait one year before changing the fields and grasslands.. make friends with a good plant book or plant person and take notes on what you have to make sure there are not rare plants growing happily on such older lands.. and if found, can be transplanted or taken care of on site.. this included the stuff in your own wetlands.. Love your new place.. and if you want something fun in your field after being checked.. try Xmas trees.. good money and you get benefits of being a Conn. tree farmer.. not to mention more cash and new friends.. and birds.. Look into the highly fragrant balsam varieties.. that classic pine tree smell.. Hugs to you and the whole tribe! xxooxx

Everything you said is so true. Also he should thin the fruit tree, but be careful with cutting too many of the old branches as fruit tends to grow/reproduce best on old wood, be mindful of the "ecosystem around the pond". I grew up and lived in an area like this most of my life. I have looked for and craved crab apples for years since moving away. I will be moving back in a few years as my job took me away.

I've never heard those boots called "hunters." We call them galoshes. But I also like to say "Wellies" because of years of watching BBC shows on PBS. About the big field, maybe you could use it for some garden experiments? Like perhaps try some exotic vegetables you wouldn't have considered for your garden and kitchen? Or some permaculture garden items, like Good King Henry or groundnuts?

@@Anne-gf2mj 'Hunter is the brand name of a type of boot credited to Lord Wellington an English Posh chap and named for him. ' Wellington Boots' Hunters are a high quality 'Welly' and "where are my Wellies?" is a common call in an English household. They are still favoued by the Aristo's for tramping around the 'Country Estate'

It's a gorgeous property and so happy for you and your family. When you get your garden started with growing produce, make it goat proof as much as you can. They can easily jump over fences and they love to eat everything.

In the vacant fields, I would amend the soil and plant a flower garden with a lot of native plants. You can use the cut flowers for an online business mailing bouquets on a monthly basis. Or just enjoy yourself!

I LOVE everything about this video!! Please do more like this even when that VERY large and amazing kitchen is done lol..SO funny when you spit out the crabapple and did your goat impression also...your property is just breathtaking. Makes me wanna leave Los Angeles for the countryside(Insert Green Acres theme song here lol) oh and I have never heard of boots referred to as hunters. So interesting!! Your positive and infectious spirit is so refreshing. I wanna come visit the farm and the cuties..YOU and the goats haha;) P.S. I love your professional microphone clipped to your shirt. Does the fuzzy cover/pop filter thingy keep the wind from interfering with the sound quality?

such a wonderful piece of land so peaceful and relaxing congratulations. Epsom salt is really helpful around your fruit trees for sweeter fruits. The Epsom salt will make sure that your fruit trees will have sufficient magnesium. Happy planting
