Magnacut ESEE Sencillo is approx $170 street price - Benchmade in S30V is $340-360 their pricing has crossed the line of ridonkulous!!! I look at Benchmade buyers these days as the people who dont really know knives and buy them bc they are expensive and thus, “they must be the best”. 😂😂😂

Bark river gunny scandi with a convex and 3v or magnacut is about $250 for mid fancy handles, basic micarta is only $210, even reiff knives which I think are over priced is still cheaper than a benchmade with much better steel. Hogue makes some very good fixed blades with cpm154 or a2 I think for way way less. $350 will get you one of the fancy fallkniven knives.

@@yourotherleft I don't really see the analogy. If you've got a problem with electric vehicles, that's got nothing to do with Benchmade pricing. And for what it's worth, on a camping trip in the mountains you can actually keep your EV battery topped up with solar panels. Good luck finding a gas station in the wilderness.

I’m a bark river fan and even the most expensive versions of their knives barely tough mid 300’s and those have hand sharpened convex blades and hand shaped handles and the $300+ knives have crazy handles, like “Texas fence post” “pine cone” “some with whatever that blue stone is called, I can’t remember the name, even the suretouch handles are that expensive, and I’m talking about the super steel variants, 3v, magnacut, cpm154, s35vn, I guess maybe some of the giant knives might hit 350’s sooner but those have like 12”-18” blades, and all the knives feature a true zero grind, bencmades have been very inconsistent with not only their secondary bevels like sharpened edge varies in width from beginning to end, but one sided being like 1/32 sharpened edge the other side being like 1/18, we’ve had some Adam’s folders come in that the primary grind was so off from knife to the other I originally thought they made a new version of the Adam’s, one was about an 1/8th of in shorter from edge to spine, I wasn’t even looking for anything like that I was just checking inventory and it caught my eye, for a $350 knife they should all be the exact same.

Ultem is the brand name for polyetherimide made by General Electric Plastics Division, now SABIC. Other polyetherimide manufacturers that can't use the Ultem trademark, but its the same polymer. Here, its just like DuPont trademarks like Teflon for PTFE coatings, or Nylon for polyamide.

$990 for the Arius? I more or less gave up collecting last year and when I bought my Arius maybe three, four years ago it was $635. All titanium, gen 4, blue ti hardware, M390. I'd be totally broke if I was still collecting. It's why I stopped and sold off 135 knives. But the Arius is one of the 70 or so I still have. The closing action is just butter. Best I've felt.

My father always carried a Case penknife, two blades, about 2.5 inches. I worked as a theatre tech for about 20 years with a Craftsman four-blade camp knife. Currently, I carry a Victorinox Rambler, and, as needed, a Victorinox Tourist or an Evogrip 14. I have many others, including various Case knives and most Victorinox knives, a Buck 110 and 119 (from the mid 1970s), and a Mora Companion and Garberg. but they are mostly a collection, not generally used.

@@landofpc I have numerous cold steel knives in SK-5 that have lasted over a decade now under heavy abuse. While I own/carry Magnacut and CPM3V knives as well, there is nothing wrong with a good heat treated knife in SK-5. Especially if it it is knife you beat on daily.

@lynnjr457
@lynnjr457 2 ай бұрын
@@landofpc I am normally with you on the cost of knives being crazy, but not all SK-5 is created or treated equally. Owning several SRKs in SK-5 bought over the years and having used several of my friend's WTG knives in SK-85/SK-5, I can tell you first hand the they are on different ends of the quality spectrum. I have sworn by CS knives for years and still abuse them daily, but their quality has gone down significantly in recent years. CS SRKs have been a favorite gift knife of mine for years. I give them away to friends who need a good knife and/or to their kids reaching an age that need a tough knife to rely on (alongside a Mora 510 and cheap SAK). With that said, the last 4 or 5 I have had to regrind the edge on them as they were uneven, or down right dull out of the box. The plastic sheaths are rattling way more than they used to. I fear that with GSI taking over CS, their quality continues to go down hill. I can't rightly compare a $40, 30yr old assembly line knife design with degrading quality to a Small Batch manufacturer making larger knives with far better results. WTG doesn't need to hide their manufacturing imperfections beneath paint like CS does on the SK-5 SRKs. I am with you that sometimes the cost is hard to justify, but if you ever get your hands on one of the WTG knives, I think you will understand first hand that it is in a different realm of build quality.

Since they brought back the 162, I really hope they bring back the 200 and 202, and maybe an upgrade to non coated cruwear or maybe magnacut, and maybe instead of scandi, either a scandivex or convex.

David: is the pocket clip reversible for lefties on the Tactile Rockwall? I'm guessing no. But hoping yes. I love their stuff, would absolutely break the bank for one of their knives, but they don't give a darn about left handed knife users. Thanks for any answer and thoughts on the large anti-lefty brigade that is knife companies.

@@Freakmaster480 I think the price would be prohibitive. Ultem is relatively low cost for its high performance. PEEK may have much superior performance, but it costs much much more.

@@marine6680 We're paying into the hundreds of dollars per knife. Knife companies or companies that sell aftermarket parts have every ability to charge enough to make it profitable as a neiche or low volume product.

Thanks for the knives, but I find tip-up is quicker to engage the knife and have a firm grip on it, with minimal movement. I pulled my PM2 out to try it and in pulling it out I had a firm grip and then deployed the blade….ready to go. Maybe it’s my comfortability with the knife🤷🏻‍♂

@@tyarnold4088 God forbid I would ever have to engage in a knife fight(fml), but yeah. I’m much more comfortable and quick tip up. Maybe if I had gone the other route it may be different. Imo the Emerson Wave seems to be the quickest overall. But, yeah…

Is a crossbar lock really 'fingersafe' ? When you release the lock and flick it closed your thumb and forefinger are safe - but you better have moved your other fingers out of the blade path just as with any other design.

The higher ups at Benchmade are still completely off of their meds. Sad thing, people will buy them. For the price of those knives, you can get a semi custom LTWK, or buy a Bradford Guardian in Magnacut for $100 less. My main fixed blade and folder that I carry in the woods is almost half of the cost of one of the Benchmades. So that with BM's often questionable fit and finish, and even a Griptilian is a hard no from me these days. But, the price on these is still not as wacky as that $600 Bailout. 😂 🤡
