I like where this is heading. Instead of just seeing things get done, you're explaining why you do them and the details of how to do them. Just enough to make things seem more doable for the average Joe or Joanne. Pretty cool, Tom.

As an over the top gearhead, I'm really getting into your channel, Tom. Last fall, I built a 100 gallon gas tank for a friend's RV and used the same processes. He thought I was going overboard with it. But he'll never have issues with it. And I'm an empty nester, too! I remember when my daughter brought home a boy from college. She quit dating him because they had a flat on his pickup one night (Abilene, TX) and no cell service. So he couldn't get his dad on the phone to come change the tire. So my little girl hiked up her skirt, pulled out his spare tire, and proceeded to change it herself. She's 46 now and has a Snap On tool box full of tools most guys would be jealous of. She loves to off road with me!

Little tip when sealing up leaks with welding is to pull a vacuum on the container. The vacuum will help pull molten metal into the leaking area and seal it better. My experience with this was from welding Liquid CO2 containers that used vacuum insulation. Our welds had to be perfectly air tight to a degree that the vacuum chamber would need to be able to hold a vacuum for 5yrs+ without needing to hook up a vacuum pump. Our method of finding leaks was using helium. There was a helium detector on the vacuum line that would detect even the faintest traces of it. We would go over every inch of weld with a hose pumping out helium listening for the detector to be set off. If we found a spot, we would go over it with a tig welder while the vaccume was still pulling and that would seal it right up. These were the large bulk storage tanks too. The kind that held over 10 tons of liquid CO2.

She travelled 200km by train, we travelled 600km with a camper trailer behind us and got there to meet them at the train station. Just subscribed. I am a pro photographer, a gear head, and an overlander (Jeep). I like techie stuff and fabrication, (i.e., I built my own overlanding trailer). I am a scientist as well and respect your logical approach to problems. It is obvious that you put a lot of time into scripting, shooting and editing your videos, which I truly appreciate; I especially appreciate the lack of lengthy time-lapse scenes - they, more than anything, bespeak of artless efforts. I look forward to learning.

One quick suggestion though … when you’re using a punch to mark for drilling holes, if you’ll use a claw hammer the holes won’t have burrs, they’re guaranteed to be the right size and placement, and your entire week will go better. POR or other fuel tank sealants are handy especially if you are buying a junkyard one. Most likely the tank will have at least one drilled in bottom to drain it. I've patched a few tanks with one or other fuel tank patch kits. Including at least one military HUMVEE that had a leak. Back in early in service, some of the maintenance sections had a universal "patch kits" for hoods, or fuel tank, coolant ect ect. At a trailhead a long time back I had to help out a guy patching his CJ-5 fuel tank. Go figure his "buddies" left him in the wind, as all of his fuel was draining out. Quick fix epoxy.
