I've made some good progress on the scenery surrounding the car auction over the past few weeks. Very happy with how it's looking but it's not finished yet, plenty more details to add.
I bought a number of details including all the fences from scale model scenery and I highly recommend them. Link below to their website if you're interested.

Great film to watch while in bed with a bad cold! Those garden fences look the business but in reality some would be broken, painted, stained and patched up. Gonna look great when finished with the flowers, some washing , cats, dogs, kids and dustbins. Oh and don't forget the bicycle!

Your concern about the houses being too close to the railway is unfounded. Near where I live there were two terraces (now demolished) which actually touched (built into) the abutments of a bridge carrying the railway. Your attention to detail is fantastic. The only comment I would make is that mostly the fences between the terrace of garden would be lower than that at the rear. However I nit pick, I am not a modeller, so I admire your work and eny your patience. Thank you for publishing these videos, they are fascinating and educational.

Well done on the detail The cable troughing looks very realistic with the displaced lids as often seen on the real thing. eg. in your photos. When you get more ballast have another look at your photos and see how the sleepers are not all swept clean. You need a few more locations(Relay boxes) to control that amount of point work and associated signals. Points usually have a large location cabinet full of equipment and another large one to supply the power to move them The narrow half width one you have would usually be used to house the power supplies for the points and signals For the signals you would need another large case. You could add another set at the other end of the junction with 3 large cases. Also as others have noted Don't forget the cables going up from the troughing.

Excellent, looking very good. A small thing, brambles - birds sit of the fence and deposit the seeds with a little fertiliser and they grow up. There would even be some on the bottom of the security fence, seeds will find fissures in the hard surface joints. Stems are red/brown with leaves darker green.

on behalf of the fence i would say it has to point in that direction from which you want to prevent trespasser to climb or make it harder for them to climb it, so in this situation it would be toward the street, if it points inwards that more suitable for a prison. but still awesome work from your side, i really enjoy watchiung your viedos!

Love watching your videos. This is the first one I’ve felt I’ve really got to comment on. Absolutely brilliant. Credit to you that looks amazing. A thoroughly enjoyable watch. Being a railway electrical engineer I can assure you that your detail is spot on. The cable troughing is virtually indistinguishable from the real thing, especially the missing/displaced lids. The whole thing is second to none. As a side note your lineside fence is correct. When dealing with railway property consent issues in the past it was the understanding that fences generally resided on the boundary line and so and any lateral excursion of the fence had to face inwards towards railway land, even though this kind of defeats the objective of the inclined upper part of the fence. I guess prisons, land borders etc. have different priorities as the orientation of their fences are generally 'correct'. Anyway, top class modelling and video production.

Hi Richard, Fantastic work as always! One suggestion regarding the location cupboard staging -I work on the Railway in areas that haven't been updated since the 80's! The older hand rails don't have the middle fall through bar and are usually a bit wonky. The floor is usually wood - with or without antislip stuff below!

In Britain you need to have the angle facing away from public footpaths as per the real picture I showed in the video. This makes the fence very easy to climb and might explain why vandalism on railway property is so common here.

We have sound barriers here very similar to those in your layout and they would be constructed by the transit authority. The lot separations in back of the housing units would use differing types of fencing as that is left to the individual property owners. I still like how they turned out though. You're doing an awesome job!
@averyfay
@averyfay 5 жыл бұрын
Fwiw, you had the fence right originally, although I'm sure there are many examples of it being installed both ways in real life (just like people constantly install faucets and deadbolt knobs wrong). The overhang is meant to make it harder to climb over so if you want to keep people out then the overhang should point outward.
