24:58 hearing this is pretty surprising to me, i remember it took me years of active playing to run out of new dialogue in new leaf, and i talked to villagers all the time. it always felt like there was an extreme amount of villager dialogue in new leaf, especially when you have a bunch of different villager types in your town
@TheIrishDino
@TheIrishDino 5 ай бұрын
It's definitely feels like there's more dialogue, it's just not as interesting as past games. There's definitely a good bit of dialogue to go through, but it's more on the safer side. New Horizons had less dialogue and less interesting stuff. Whereas games like Wild World maybe had less dialogue than New Leaf, but had more personality to it. Hope I make sense with that lol

I think the 'dmaster out' thing is an old feature of online forums. I remember on some sites you could add a signature message that was displayed on all your posts. So, maybe that was what was going on there.

Back in the olden days, there were things called signatures. - dmaster out
@Arualiaa
@Arualiaa 23 күн бұрын
It definitely wasn’t. Auto-signatures were usually more elaborate than this, and you could tell when the post ended and the sig began. Dmaster is most likely from an earlier generation, one where automatic siggies in forums weren’t a thing, and people had to manually add them to each post. That kind of behavior then carries over, inevitably, to sig-less forums like the one on screen, because people are so used to having their little catchphrase at the end of each post. I remember back in the day when social media just started out and people were still in a forum mindset, people would add siggies to Facebook posts, KZfaq comments and stuff. Not Twitter tho, because of the character limit 😅

I was 19 when this game came out. I had moved to a new town. I lived in a basement suite with a man I barely knew, out of desperation after getting reno-victed from my first rental place. I had been abused at my work and quit of of anger. Jobless. With barely enough cash for the next month’s rent, let alone groceries, and all of my worldly possessions being able to fit into a backpack…I came home and the man I lived with had bought a black 3ds XL and new leaf, and told me he hoped it would bring me some happiness. That game stuck with me for years. And years. And years. And funnily enough, after getting me through the worst days of my adult life, it’s something Im incredibly nostalgic for. (The man is now my spouse and we are expecting our first kiddo in June!)

I feel like one of the biggest misses in new horizons is the amount of "progression" they removed. I know a lot of people think its too sandboxy and lacks soul, but i think that comes from how quickly you rush through to the credits. In New Leaf I always loved watching the stores and buildings upgrade, new places being added, etc... Really wish they would've kept that theme going. For future titles I think it would be great if they did what the DLC did by adding in new facilities like schools, restaurants, hospitals, etc, as things you could add to your town! I'd love to see a new city installation of the series with even more villagers than ever and more city planning. Maybe even choose if you want to live in a bustling city, as small home town, or a deserted island. Those are my personal wishes for the franchise anyways.

one of my favorite things in new Leaf was some of the small details: as you play the game and the more time passes: your town tree grows bigger and bigger. I don't know what it is but there was something kind of heartwarming about watching that tiny sapling you plant at the start of the game grow into an absolute behemoth. and it even gets its own ambiance of the wind blowing through its leaves when you sit on its plot, the music of the credits falling away and its nothing but you under the shade of your tree hearing the wind rustling its leaves that, and the fact that one of the house styles you can buy is a castle and give it an exterior so it looks like its made of wood I did that. I made my house a cabin Castle by the lake and bred a bunch of blue pansies to surround it.

bro why the last line of this video making me tear up???? I have so many fond memories of playing WW as an 8 yo kid, after school or on long car rides or at my grandparent’s cabin. NL came out when I was in high school, and I didn’t have a 3DS. I didn’t get to play NL until I was 21 and in college, but it’s one of the few things that still makes me feel the exact same way it did when I was a kid. I liked NH but it just didn’t hit the same way as NL. Great vid! Subbed.

new leaf was and is still my favourite game. (out of the three i've played being new leaf, new horizons and city folk) It was basically the best mix of creativity and equity. You weren't really BETTER than any of your villagers even if you're mayor, and the villagers are alive. I hope we get motion controls in the new games though. I could probably ramble for a good five minutes on why this is such a great game. Also i want wii speaks in the new games too. dmaster out

The island mini games were actually the features I missed the most when moving over to New Horizons. I would regularly play multiplayer with my little brother and we’d always go to the island to play the games together, and it was probably the most engaging and replayable multiplayer that Animal Crossing has ever had. Yeah New Horizons made many improvements to multiplayer like allowing more players, but at the end of the day, after you’ve shown off your islands to each other, you’d have to make your own fun with little made-up games. This would only be fun for so long, and it was considerably less entertaining than the Island mini games. Even if some were bull crap, they were like Mario Party levels of bull crap. Yeah you’re angry, but when you’re playing with friends, angry turns into sodding hilarious!! I hope im not the only one who felt this way!
@TheIrishDino

Okay, I’ve finally watched it! Even though I was meant to earlier. I remember when I saw the post on your community tab, announcing that you were working on a new leaf video. I was so excited. And like the game, I was waiting for it. And my oh my did it deliver! I loved the bit when you said you were originally focused on making this your best video yet, but instead just decided to not focus on that, and just speak from the heart. The things we love, we can never fully express why we feel that way. It’s something that words could never do justice. And that ending, that got me emotional man I first got this game for my 10th birthday back in September 2013. And since then, that game will always be one of the closest things to my heart and one of the best times I had as a kid playing that game. I adored this game. I didn’t have many friends, but even back then, I felt like none of the kids around me really understood me. I didn’t really feel comfortable in this world where it was almost seen as wrong to be myself. But when I came back home from school every day. I’d open my 3ds and go to my town, and just get lost in the world. In that place, I had a purpose. I was valued. Even if the villagers weren’t always the nicest, building relationships with them and feeling like I was making an effort to improve people’s lives, in a way, made me almost feel seen. I know, video game characters. Obviously they’re not real. But due to how nice characters like Isabelle were, I felt warmth and comfort radiate from this game. Even now my words aren’t doing it justice for how perfect that game was for me at that time in my life. I could’ve felt completely alone, and then I’d boot up new leaf, and suddenly, it felt like while my problems didn’t necessarily go, it felt like, in a way, they could almost be acknowledged. I got a cuddly monkey as well on my birthday and the next day, we went on a residential trip for a few nights with my primary school. We had to share bunks with somebody and I had no clue who would pick me out of all the boys in the dorm. But there was a new kid who was also in the dorms. I asked him if we could bunk up. I think I asked him anyway. But either way, we became friends on that school trip. Now this monkey, I couldn’t think of a name for it, so I asked him if he could think of anything. I also mentioned that I had animal crossing new leaf. I said that the monkey at the train station was called Porter. So from then on, I named him Porter. And to this day, he’s still supported me. We don’t talk as much now but we still care about each other a lot. A few months ago he sent me a lovely birthday message also asking how I was doing. To me, he was the first real friend I think I made. There were people that I’m still in touch with now from primary school, who I am friends with now and was a little bit later on, but I could never trust anyone up to that point. He was the first person my age that I felt like actually gave me the time of day. And when I see that monkey toy, I always think of that moment. This game is so special to me and I haven’t even talked about the gameplay and everything else. It’s just magic. My attachment to this game might be more than any other game I played. This is my 4th favourite game, as there are 3 games that I think I like just a bit more. But it’s pretty close. My adoration for this game goes beyond just statements. And I’ve also been rambling for a while. There’s this sense of purity and genuine love and care in every video you put in, Dino. So if you’ve read all of this, (and if not, I don’t blame you, I don’t stop talking) thank you so much! I still struggle w motivating myself to do anything on KZfaq. However, seeing videos like this, it encourages me and also just boosts my spirits. Seeing all this effort, and genuine love and care put in is just a beautiful thing to see. I hope you had a good new years and Christmas and that everything is well with you. So from the bottom my heart, a huge internet embrace is coming ur way right now. Thank you for this video. Ur hard work, believe me, it pays off and it’s cherished. I want u to know that. Okay I think I’ve said most of what I need to say. I’m gonna go to bed now. Keep shining brother. You are loved. Best dinosaur on KZfaq - Matt 💙

I got new horizons in 2022 and knew it would feel more hollow but i also was hoping i could make something out of it (coming from someone who plays the sims 4 which is. just as soulless lol) but even past paying off my full debt, it feels like there isnt much to do. versus new leaf where- i paid off my debt and spent so much time planning out my house and the theming, i even tried getting high points thru the hha thing. I spent forever playing the minigames, hanging out on the island, talking to villagers and all that. I think i spent more time playing happy home paradise on new horizons than speaking to my villagers lol All in all, its pretty but it just doesnt feel as endless as new leaf did. I really wanted to love new horizons too : ( i just hope that the next mainline ac game will feel more...fulfilling, but i have a bad feeling it won't. ANYWAY- Great video, it made me want to open up new leaf again and see everyone again.

the skin colour issue is shocking from a western point on view, but the primary audience for animal crossing was overwhelmingly asian for the majority of its existence. Japan has classically made most of its media for domestic audiences, and typically that meant 99% of the people who would buy/view your media would be white skinned japanes people. Dark skin was not a concern for them until very recently.

Hahaha I can recognize a face that's belonging to Takaya Imamura at 8:00 ! He was the first F-Zero character designer, today he is very active on Twitter and he's doing his own manga. I can understand where you were mislead to using this picture though, he's more handsome 😉

Animal Crossing was a franchise I have very fond memories of and I wish I could feel those emotions again. A big thing was it gave me and my youngest sister something to finally bond over which was incredibly rare. Now that we're both in our 20s, we're back to that state of having no real shared interests which is something I miss. But at least there's still that moment when we both indulged in the cute and silly game about rabbits and dogs being our neighbors and either wanting them to be our best friends or move tf out.

This is exactly how I feel about wild world, I loved new leaf too but wild world still has my heart. I come back to it every year for a few days, sometimes weeks and it has been over 10 year now, I am so grateful for these games

I spent soooo much time on that stupid island farming sharks. I miss New Leaf. The villager personality was dampened even then compared to WW, but still so much better compared to NH imo. I found NH very disappointing and I kinda want to go back to NL, but I think I've pretty much completed it and it's been years...

When new leaf came out I was living on my own for the first time in my life. In a different country where I know nobody, well working 7 days a week. It really was a little vacation away from real life where I could relax for a few hours at the end of the day. No stress, no objective, no pressure it was perfect. I think I played it daily for 9 oar 10 month's and after that of and on for a long time. 10/10 love me my pocket vacations.

Growing up, I had found out about Animal Crossing online back in the earlier days of the Internet. I remember always wanting to play one of the games, but my parents never let me for some reason. But on a summer day in 2017, just as the sun was setting, I finally got my hands on New Leaf. I played it constantly, even though I had no idea what I was doing. I loved every part of it. I remember being so upset because I wanted my favorite villager Ankha (I was a kid, shut up) but didn't know that amiibo cards existed lol. Unfortunately, I ended up falling off the game around 2019 because of school, and I never really came back after that. I keep trying to, but I just moved on to New Horizons.

I want the next animal crossing to focus less on decorating and bring back interacting with your villagers and the npc’s. I want to be able to be a cashier in nook’s, and restoration worker at the museum, a personal stylist at able’s, and of course a barista at the cafe. I want my performance on how much effort I put into my town to reflect in the villager’s mood. Let there be risk. I want my villagers to be free to hate me despite my efforts. I was to feel like my presence matters without it feeling like I’m a God, and instead an actual person. I love animal crossing so much and would spend massive amounts of money on a good game and I know Im not the only one. It pains me to see how Nintendo treats their audience and just refuse to listen to us and give is what we want…

Nah this is still my favourite video I've ever done! Was tons of fun to write, record, research etc! As much as I love doing video essay type videos, I'm not as connected or passionate about many other games series, aside from Animal Crossing and Mario. I'll keep making videos on the things I like and I hope people enjoy them, whether it's one person or one million! :D

It's so sad that IrishDino has succumbed to bad volume quality, subtle wokeness and less than ground-breaking takes on gaming (Animal Crossing being your brand so far) I was really anticipating this video. Its a shame the comedy and audio quality didn't hit so hard
