The all-new Lexus NX is the Japanese brand’s take on a luxury midsize SUV, rivalling models like the BMW X3, Volvo XC60 and Mercedes GLC. While this second-generation model looks similar to the old car, it’s been given a significant makeover inside with a larger infotainment screen and even more luxurious materials. It’s all changed under the bonnet too, with a regular hybrid available alongside a new plug-in model that can manage 40 miles of pure-electric running and over 300mpg. I'd have this lexus over anything from Germany by a long way. It stands out among a sea of x3's and Q5s. It's better built, more reliable and just cooler. Great review Nicola.

the X3, GLC and even the GV70 are all far better overall. They offer 6 cylinder engines, RWD platforms, nicer interiors, more tech. The NX might be cooler since it’s rarer than the Germans here in Europe but ovjectivly it’s worse.

@@kristians2704what car has more tech than this in the segment ? this has automatic parking, largest heads up display in the segment that shows navigation, 3d view monitor which shows you the wheel location and the underside of the car, electronic door handles, voice control, adaptive suspension, adaptive cruise control, digital key etc.

Very nice. Something tells me Lexus drivers are not too bothered about that CVT gearbox. Most people who buy these want reliability and luxury and this car delivers big time.

In hybrids, there is nothing from CVT, it's called e-CVT only because it changes gears seamlessly and has constant high rpm during acceleration, but everything else is different. Weberauto described its insides and it's more reliable than normal automatic according to my experience and observations. Basic CVT, in non-hybrids, even in toyotas are less reliable than automatic, not capable for long mountain uphills, light offroad and high loads (over 500kg trailers).

The e latch for opening the door stops you opening it into oncoming cars, cyclists and pedestrians using the blind spot monitoring system (there is of course an override for emergencies). This car is a great improvement over the previous generation and will be far far more RELIABLE than any of it's competitors, especially the german brands! If I was in the market for a car in this class this would be my choice without doubt!

Check how it handles speed pumps. Some people reported that it still can't handle sudden pumps in the road in a luxurious fashion.

Self charging hybrids are so inefficient and underpowered too, coupled with a CVT gearbox, its not a great package for such a steep price

Hi Yesterday I did a test drive for a Lexus nx 450h in hybrid mode, and I was surprised that for the duration of the test the sound of the electric motors was annoying... Is this normal for the hybrid mode? Another thing I felt was that the suspension system is not quite as good as described in the videos because I I felt it concretely in the street potholes and light bumps. Besides in the volvo xc60 b5 mild hybrid test nothing of this felt no annoying sounds and good behaviour suspensions.

I've never driven the NX300 but I'll be adding this one to my test drive list when it's time to change. There are a lot of options out there so it may take some time. Oh and I love the big telly that they've added to this one and it looks better integrated into the dash and not s stuck on iPad that some others do. Real twiddly knobs are likely to be a must for my next car. I'm on the fence as to the style of the family front grille though, it sort of resembles the mouth of one of those predator nasties in those films but as I'd be driving it and not looking at it so maybe a minor gripe in reality. Great review Nicola.

I sat briefly in this model today and it feels amazing. Everything very comfortable and elegant. Even nicer than the RX. Only comment - it is 4 people car. Somehow middle back seat isn't really a seat in Lexuses.

how come the nx in US listed 39mpg combined. And you said it this nx in UK has 47 mpg. Are they different?

US and UK gallons are different sizes - don't ask us why! Also, the EPA and WLTP test procedures are different...

Debating between this and rx350? I have a family of 3 adults and one 90lbs dog. We hardly go out of town but when we do it will be 3 adults and the dog. Iam afraid the NX will be too small? It is cheaper though, that's why iam looking at it

Lovely car but that gearbox is exactly the reason I opted for the Tucson Hybrid instead with its proper 6 speed auto, it’s arguably better looking too and fully loaded for £10k less …. 😬

I know this car is not going to the mechanic frequently even after 10yrs. Which is absolutely not the case for BMW. They Cost a fortune to maintain. Lexus is the best luxury brand out there. And with this NX they r way better than the germans

Very nice...I like the car as well. This may well be our next Lexus after our IS300h. You don't buy a Lexus for performance or for the badge on the front. If you are worried about 0-60 times buy a German car, then get used to driving around in the dealers courtesy car. Maybe the plural of Lexus should be Lexi ?

The price is excellent considering how much you will save on taxes/insurance/repairs/maintenance/fuel. Real fking bargain and that driver's cockpit! Wow. That's great design (not talking about the looks but the usability of it)

The non-hybrid versions (NX300 & NX350) come with an 8-speed automatic. I would go for the NX350 as I don’t like their droning e-CVTs.

The E-CVT blends the electric / ICE better (and more reliably) than a conventional auto, that’s why they use it

Rav4 is a regular toyota, Lexus is a luxury toyota. Big difference Lexus ride is more refined, quieter, smoother and has more premium built

Because they’re super reliable and efficient. Also this is not actually a traditional cvt. I would advise you to try the 450h and you’ll feel the difference to a traditional cvt.

@@flyme195 because of the large battery in the 450h, you get most of the power from there so when the engine kicks in, it doesn’t roar like that unless you’re trying to drive like an F1 driver. In any case I think most of the targeted audience for this car would rather all of the positives above over a traditional gear box.

sad, that the nice exterior isn't brought into the interior, which is too conservative and the are above the glovebox is extremely boring and uninspiring. lexus can do better than that.

Looks nice but it is too plain. Looks as if it was made by Kia. The inside is far better looking than the previous model but it is still dull and not suitable for the car of this price range.
