To explain it in WoW terms: Imagine if the Dragonflight trailer was just a minute of some girl saying random quotes from characters that have next to nothing to do with each other, and literally the next day Blizzard released a 10 minute epic trailer to promote the new cash shop mount. That's basically what Riot did with the cinematics.

What the fans of the said game are really complaining about is not really about the mediocore cinematic (though tbh, it's the worse cinematic they've released) but more so on the amount of investment Riot is giving League. Lack of proper events, skins, champions, and now their cinematic? It is widely known that Riot has never failed to deliver with their cinematic until now. So yes, it is a public showing of how Riot is focusing more on their other games (I.e, their MMO, Valorant, Project L, etc.)

First time seeing that cinematic. The weirdest part to me is the sound clips of pro game casters. I've never seen a League cinematic (aside from ones specifically for pro games) that breaks out of the League universe. They're always exclusively about the people/champions living in this fantasy world, so it's jarring randomly hearing casting in a cinematic.

I don't understand why thats a problem. The whole things empty except for some champion weapons and its utterly forgettable but I know that if they had did a proper cinematic with those champs showing up as their quotes were read out no one would be complaining about the poem. Keep your complaints straight and go at the cinematic itself otherwise it just looks like people complaining for the sake of complaining and Riot won't listen.

Obviously if the champs where there to say them, it would be a LOT better, with some background and a situation for them to say it, but right now its only: "fuck i dont know what to put, whatever, let just get some quotes here and there and vuala"

chill, riot's artists team still busy with arcane season 2. cinematic is not as important as arcane, so they focused on arcane. u don't get loss if they get a bad cinematic or something, u can watch it free. but u'll get loss money and a lot of time if u watched bad arcane season 2.

The most egregious part is that the "we had to do this because of unprecedented circumstances" is most likely an empty excuse. Riot does not make their cinematics in-house and everybody knows that. The only possible way to interpret this is that the studio they contracted to make the 2023 cinematic somehow lost the entire file on around Christmas and some poor intern had to burn the last of his holidays to whip out the student project level 2023 cinematic that we got.

exactly what I was thinking. if it's true then it's nice that they didn't throw the studio under the bus. random info, fortiche is technically owned by riot. before riot invested in them, they were a team of 3 people. edit: expanded to 100+, downsized after arcane was cancelled worked on other riot projects (get jinxed, rise, k/da), then expanded again when arcane was green lit again 1 year later.

The difference in time and effort required between their other cinematics and the new one is INSANE. Literally would take hundreds of times more work-hours to make those other cinematics than the one we got. No, seriously, it's that big a difference. No animated characters at all besides a single butterfly. No environment destruction. One single environment that is summoner's rift (of which they already had a cinematic quality version made). One single voice actor. VERY few sound effects, hardly any. You really gotta understand the CRAZY amount of time it takes to animate even just one character in a fighting sequence, and their cinematics have often over a dozen to animate, along with voice acting for them and sound effects etc. This wasn't just laziness, it was outright neglectful of the company.

When we saw "The Call" last year we were so hyped and ready for an awesome void event! ... That never came, so we assumed it's because they were working on a new game mode for Star Guardians! ... That never came, so we assumed it's because they actually were working on something for Spirit Blossom! ... They've got alot of stuff in the pipeline at the moment, multiple games, TV shows, etc. I think their departments are getting stretched thin and unfortunately that is gonna be evident somewhere. Promotion is important but getting games and other media developed is the bigger priority.

@@aryantzh2028 arcane came out 2021, that year we got 3(asfar as i remember) ruination cinematics, burn it all down for worlds, lunar skin animation (the one with annie) and those i remember just off the top of my head. and all of them are top tier animations. this year we get this joke? they can squeeze a little animation in for a start of season. they simply didnt give a fuck untill it was too late same as with gamemode team team disolved they didnt even bother to look at the team responsable for it till people started to complain then went "oh we got noone there left? meh who cares"

Wow, this is the first I've seen of this. Idk what to think even lol. Tbh there must be some other thing that they're working on that's tying up their time, coz this was just so below their usual standard. Not that it's terrible, it's just so generic and 'meh' Oh well, they gave me Arcane and all the other badass cinematics up until now, plus Valorant, an upcoming fighting game, and an mmo in development. I will give them a bit of leeway this time. It still is really surprising though, they barely tried on this.

@@DatNguyen98211 it's unfortunate but based on all the other shit the have going on and the fact that they don't have infinite employees or partners to collaborate with, I definitely get why something like this could happen. If they really are having a time/personnel crunch, a promotional teaser is not the highest priority compared to actual game and media projects that will benefit them infinitely more than a hype trailer.

LoL got nothing all of 2022, our big event was a visual novel locked behind boring grindy missions that bugged out so hard that they just unlocked it all half way through, and PC got the worst version of the event as Wild Rift got the best skins and actual fun challenges, they slowed down champ releases, reworks and VGUs, absolutely lied to us about bringing back a fan favorite gamemode only to tell us it'll come out this year shortly before they just dissolved the whole gamemode team straight out, they completely gave up on new season changes when they only gave us a few new items for only one class as opposed to every year previous where they would make massive sweeping changes to the game to keep it feeling fresh, also arcane was made by a different studio from their cinematics studio, and even then Riot is no stranger to outsourcing cinematics to 3rd party studios, a year of nothing and lies only to have this be our look into the coming season absolutely kills any hope I have for things getting better, hell they even managed to kill Necrit's faith in them and he's perhaps the most positive member of the league community.

@@snowpegasi Fortiche did alottt of their cinematics work even as they were planning Arcane out, Riot really trusts them as partners and I'm sure they don't want to just hire anyone to do them. The third parties they work with are probably highly regarded and sought after so it's very possible that no one they normally worked with could spare the time to do the trailer. It does suck that this happened after a sub-par LoL year and I get the frustration, for sure. Ultimately though I think by putting energy into these other projects, it increases the chances they will be really great and more successful games and other media will mean revenue can potentially be put back into LoL. I think Riot is looking ahead long term and diversifying coz LoL can't last forever. Seems smart to me.

@@snowpegasi I don't even think the scaling down is a bad thing. Scaling a game too high makes it unsustainable, and the MOBA bubble popped years ago, so they need to find a more balanced development pace that can be sustained for years to come. Everyone says "they got so much money they can afford it" but there is no reality where a company of this size operates a huge live service game at a loss, because that's millions in resources that could instead go to a project that does not operate at a loss. LoL is not so popular that Riot can just operate it as a loss lead for their company. LoL players have had unrealistic and shortsighted expectations for basically the entire lifespan of the game, so it's not surprising that they decided to riot(ha) over what is actually pretty weak speculation.

The issue is that this trailer would take maybe 5 people an afternoon to make. You just make the level in UE5 using pre-existing assets, have the camera follow a path with certain timed triggers coded in, throw the voiceovers and misc sound bites, done. It's so insanely low effort compared to the previous years season start cinematics that there isn't even a comparison.

The problem is everything in league recently on top of the trailer. Like after the 2022 trailer it's been a downward spiral. There haven't been new events, new lore updates, they messed up the new season too with barely anything announced, the gamemode team was essentially disbanded and started anew, etc. Essentially a lot of bad shit happened for league recently and then we had them not even make a cinematic like usual. It essentially gave the feeling of "league is done" that's why the cinematic flopped so hard

The markets are not the same, most players don't know or care about lore, it's a competitive PvP game focused on gameplay, and tons of non-players watched Arcane. Valve really fucked up, if Dota actually had 300-600k players it would be fine but the amount of smurfs/ALTs/bots means the real number isn't even close, and if it somehow is, the conduct and smurf system /community is so dogshit and split that it feels like there's 10k players max. Personally I queue into the same people over and over and I'm only 6k, not even half way to the top mmr

I still can't believe they took so long to try and fix dota, just to make it worse, then eventually with the community, make a proper new player experience when it's already too.. great waste of time on artifact and this trashy battlepass, valve had the opportunity to be successful and praised like riot, far more so even considering the 10-20years prior. Instead they sat on their fat steam stacks in complacency.

@@nltiro3387 Not really, Dota is good. They just don't advertise it. Bloodstone is the only thing that's annoying now. Before that, the worst things were the patches with shrines. Most bad decisions got reverted. The game quality itself is very good if you excuse some post-Battle pass bugs. The BP itself was actually the most generous one in ages if you count in part 2, part 1 sucked for its time, that's true.

The voice in the trailer is literally just a voice actor reading off in-game voicelines of random champions in the game... no seriously. The lines she says are literally just randomly selected lines from different characters. The epitome of lazy and not giving a shit.

People still think developing a moba is linear progression and it is not. LoL has been developed since 2009 and it is worked out to death by now. Is it a better game today, after 14 years, than it was after 4 years? To me it's not, just different. They can change jungle mobs, add the 213th champ, mix the items up. I prefered the game when it had 50-70 champs, having some triple digit number there never made the game better for me, just more convoluted (especially as the meta recycles just 20 champs most of the time). The game has reached it's qualitative peak many years ago. Objectively it won't get any better. No matter where Riot puts the focus.

the main problem isnt the cinematic itself, but what it represents. Riot has been taking more and more resources out of the fun parts of league and been putting that into skins. The game modes team was dissolved to work on skins. Alot of the narrative writers were fired to cut costs. And then they cant even be bothered to give us our yearly cinematic? And then less then a day after the release of this shit they release a high quality cinematic ... for a skin line.

Nothing wrong with that. I appreciate not wanting to be rude but I agree it didn't really feel right. I think whoever is voicing it has a good voice but not best suited for a higher emotion narration like this. Still, no matter who voiced it, wouldn't have felt great because the script was off.

From this cinematic, and the tweets seen here, i think League has served its purpose to the company, and whatever resources they use to invest on it, are no longer paying off, so they're just redirecting them to their other IPs, which is fine and understandable. You guys on the other hand still latched onto League like there isn't anything better, or feel the need to keep playing for whatever reason that only you see relevant have some problems, stop, it's been a decade, there's nothing new here to expect, if anything hope those resources are going towards their MMO which can still expand its lore and world.

I'm 100% for it. I know people love League but it's not exactly welcoming to people who just love the lore. Arcane has brought in alot of casual interest in Runeterra as a setting, and there are more accessible means of engaging that interest, ie the upcoming fighter and the mmo, not to mention LoR.

It’s not necessarily a bad cinematic, it’s just such a huge downgrade from all of their previous cinematic releases. It’s recycles voice lines and 2 moments from pro play which shouldn’t even be what ranked is about. If this was released for like the LCS season opening cinematic I don’t think anyone would mind, but it’s just so out of place after years of champion and lore focused cinematics that just got better and better over time.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm fine with the lack of League content if it means Riot is giving their all to the other projects. I'd give anything for a GOOD and competitive League fighting game(Project hoping), same goes for the MMO. These new projects are finally giving the fans a chance to see the League lore be expanded and branch to different avenues and be somewhat fully realized. It'd be a very much needed and beloved fresh start, casual fans that don't enjoy the game itself can enjoy the other media and love the lore from it.

Nothing wrong at all with the voice over. Considering how Riot has been praised for reinventing its cinematic 'game' each time, delivering unique and amazing work, this cinematic stands out in a negative way. It has the charme of a tech demo.

Yeah the issue isn't the trailer itself. If someone else made it, it would be seen as ok, not great, but ok. The issue is it's the official riot trailer and it didn't live up to expectations. I think that if riot had just said, we lost the work on our trailer and have to start over, so we don't have the trailer ready yet, it will be out when it's ready. People would have been like, that's alright, it happens. I think they should have repurposed thier new skin line trailer, it would have been better received as a new season trailer, and it would have promoted the skins.

Cause Blizz keeps improving the new expansion for WoW every week, or even day. Patching visual problems that existed 6 years ago that they forgot people complained about because their visual que game was so weak back then....i mean its not something we're used to, and the only reason to change the way this line looks is to help people not die and be frustrated...Feels like they care about the player. I think the people who say league is dying are teenagers who recently started. For the last 6-7 years people say league is dead or dying every 2 months, but my queue is still between instant and 1min long across multiple game modes. League is one of the most consistently successful games of all time.

Yeah I was in same boat as Asmon here. The first one seems ok. Not great, not terrible. Seems like idea from Heroes 3 original intro. Single narrator, getting ready for battle. Except Heroes 3 mixed that with a battle scene which this one lacked. Just avarage 5 or 4 out of 10. Then second one is a full of action crazy ride like original Warhammer Dawn of War intro or WoW Burning Legion. Its not that first one is bad its that the older one was much better and they went from really good one to below avarage.
