Hello, I am a dermatologist and the reality is that coconut oil is not even recommended for facial use. The density of that oil covers the pores and produces up to three times more oil than your skin normally produces. Besides that it irritates the inside of the skin and can infect it.

They could even use a cardboard lid but there really should be anything over it because of dust and other stuff. You could probably cut of a tiny bit everytime you want to use it to keep it a bit more sanitary but then there is still the issue of it just melting if the room temperature goes up a bit too much.

as far as making it more sanitary; maybe if they dipped more of the product in wax so that more of the product was covered in wax. That way it'd be less messy and you could just peel the wax off as you needed more and it'd keep the product cleaner and fresher.

@@cariad123 Ok, so there must be a misunderstanding. I'm not saying that plastics in the environment are a good thing. I hate it when people litter. What I'm trying to get at is that if your efforts on zero waste makes for an inferior product that falls apart if you hold it too long then it's not worth it. A better alternative would have been to put the foundation in one of there cardboard tubs. Those are recyclable. Or a biodegradable plastic case. Please note that Tina's review is the only one I saw of this product. It's not for me and my oily skin so I'm not going to look further into this product. Maybe it's a great product but Tina got a bad batch. Maybe it's a great product and the whole falling apart is just Tina.

Just a tip from someone with overly sensitive skin, if you feel any itchiness or an immediate reaction DO NOT use a makeup wipe to remove it as they contain high amounts of alcohol as a preservative and therefore will further iritate your skin! This was a trial run for this product. I'm sure they are listening to feedback about the packaging and everything else. There is an optional tin you can buy separately. I think the main problem is the shape and how it is awkward to hold. The package is easily dealt with, as is the shape. People are so quick to call this product unsanitary but that's not really the issue. We all have unsanitary things all over our homes, including in our makeup kits.

They did p much everything wrong smfh 1. That no-waste goal can be solved with refillable containers like they do their face masks. Customers keep a nice, strong plastic container they can get sanitized and refilled at the store. This would reduce waste, ensure repeat customers, and potential discounts for recycling containers at Lush stores incentivize consumers to keep up the no waste trend 2. Coconut oil will turn off every MUA in the industry. If you can't talk to actual chemists and estheticians, at least glance at r/skincareaddiction to wake up to the ingredients consumers want to see 3. Not only is this product perceived as unhygienic for MUAs, but the 40 color shade range means very little if this entire collection excludes anyone with oily/combination/sensitive skin AND can't meet the typical Lush price point. I'm glad Lush is trying and it looks like they've pulled the product to retool it, but it's just embarrassing to see how out of touch they are when THAT was their aim and THIS was their product.

is the actual no-waste product not functional or is your lifestyle built around unsustainable habits? So many people cry hygiene, but as someone who works in research and microbiology, something like your lip balm comes into contact with your bacteria filled mouth and you're ok with that. every time you go swim in a lake or the sea? this formulation has negligible water content and microbes are not that easy to grow on fat and waxes. sure, things like makeup brushes actually do need cleaning due to dead skin cells and dust, but there are a lot of things we do built around unnecessary ideas of "cleanliness" that can be cut down for sustainability.

This foundation looks so messy and unsanitary. After swiping it over your face over and over again, imagine all of the germs and bacteria that would be on it. Plus, there's no way to clean it. If you leave it in a hot and steamy bathroom, it would also melt all over, lol. There are so many cons to this product, it's a hard pass for me.

Yes, the packaging could be better, but this is great for people who are environmentally friendly and want to use less wasteful products. A solution to the container would be to maybe buy a small stainless steel container (there are travel sized ones out there) and transfer the entire foundation into such a container. You'll get rid of the wax that way, and then you can ensure that the product is sealed when not in use.

Eco friendly and zero waste products are good, but Lush’s makeup is soooo poorly made. I used to use their tints for a week until it broke me out everywhere. Tina, something you should take into account is the philosophy behind Lush products. They're cruelty free and plant based, which is a much better alternative to many other products which are tested on animals and with various degrees of unfriendly chemicals. In terms of packaging, better cardboard than plastic. Easily fixed with a Lush tin. For very hot countries, keep it in the fridge, like face masks. And speaking of bacteria, people should see their own 'clean' make up under a microscope and they'll be shocked. But hey, horses for courses!

Juan Trump lush doesn’t clams to be all natural. It’s a fresh, organic, and handmade brand that’s cruelty free. It’s leaning toward natural preservatives, but some products contain low amounts of synthetic preservatives. However, there’s usually a natural alternative for those who choose to avoid synthetics. As for being vegan, also not true. It’s a 100% vegetarian company and about 85% of the product range is vegan, but lush uses honey, lanolin, and eggs in some products.

Everyone complaining about the sanitary side of things.....all while using stick foundation which is the exact same concept 🙄 With that said, I wouldn’t expect much different from Lush as this concept falls in line with all their other products. In all honesty, your skin looked absolutely beautiful and radiant once you completed all products. I was extremely surprised, in fact. Love the concept and hope Lush can iron out the kinks as I truly believe a more naturally-made foundation would be well received. Possibly even the next “big thing”.

Honestly if any other company sent out a product that was literally unshippable and arrived in such a bad state people would tear into it, but people are kind of up Lush's arse. The eco-friendly angle is commendable but it sometimes comes off as a gimmick when they're charging an arm and a leg for a completely impractical product. They should probably work a bit more on refining their alternative packaging rather than just getting rid of it all.

Even though Lush claim to be full of natural ingredients they aren't suitable for sensitive skin, most of the foaming products contain SLS and the natural fragrance oils can be very irritating. I really struggled to find products that would be suitable for my own sensitive skin needs, and the ones I did try were nice compared to the rest of the range, but very seasonal and unavailable at any other time. I can't even enter the physical stores due to the suffocating mashup of scents and had to order online. They have some very cute and fun products, and I love their take on skincare, but their makeup leaves a lot to be desired and it's important to not conflate "natural" with "gentle". It's worth doing your research and checking whether some ingredients are comedogenic or more likely to cause a reaction; just because it's "chemical free" doesn't make it suitable for people with sensitive skin or allergies, so read the ingredients lists carefully before purchasing.

I don't understand why everyone is complaining about this being unsanitary? No one complains about stick lipstick, concealer and foundation. What about having to dip your brush into powder? Wouldn't that also be considered unsanitary? Or what about any product with wands that to put on your face then put back into the makeup bottle? What I'm trying to say is that this product is no more unsanitary than most other cosmetic products. Edit: I do agree that I wish it had a cap or lid. It looks like your supposed to putting it back in its box. I guess the only big problem I have is that it may melt in the box but then I guess you can stick it in the freezer and use a brush or fingers to still apply it. This is why lipsticks have plastic cases - so the product doesn't melt in your hands. I get the whole zero waste gimmick but don't give me an inferior product just so you can feel better about helping the environment.

Lush is something you absolutely love, or really don't like. I think it's more important for them to be environmentally friendly rather than environmentally damaging like other beauty companies do. So instead of the over use of unrecyclable plastics, with other things like papers, glass, etc to make their packaging alluring, they would rather forego the bells and whitstles. I, personally, appreciate their minimalistic, recyclable, reused packaging. And they only use natural, vegan, cruelty free ingredients. Usually it is all handmade, as well. So, again, it's what is more important to you. A formula that has questionable ingredients, or one that has ingredients you could easily purchase without being a chemist. I feel, at this time, you have to choose what is more important to you, plus realize there will be sacrifices on either side. Your skin did look amazing before your skin reaction. But I really appreciate how fair you were to Lush even though it wasn't for you or your skin. That's why I keep returning to your channel and have for the last 2 years!

It might work better staying in some type of glass or plastic package & applied with a sponge or brush?

I've tried various different foundations from Lush. I so want to love their makeup, and support their make up like. But literally every time I have used their foundation it's like a freaking oil spill on my face. It doesn't matter what I use to blend the make up, it always ends up a streaky mess. But I think a lot of people have said the same. ☹️

I think the packaging would be better and more travel friendly in one of those EOS lip balm containers. Also, I was wondering if you could do a video on an affordable high school makeup routine. It would be helpful. Thanks everyone for looking at my comment! ♡♡

I like that idea of the EOS packaging! As for back to school, sometimes I feel too old to be filming back to school looks... 😞

They're trying to reduce waste which includes plastic. Their black pots are recycled when returned by caring customers who also want to make a difference. If they make smaller packaging like eos, more than likely they won't be recycled. I say they make glass pots like the ones for their lip scrubs.

People are really going overboard with thinking everything is not hygienic. Most people that wear foundation would have cleaned and moisturized their face prior to application. So if you keep your brush/beauty blender/hands clean, you shouldn't have to worry about hygiene at all. Plus, I don't know which ingredients are in this stick, but oils like tea tree oil have antibacterial properties. On top of that, you could always spray it with alcohol if you're that concerned, but honestly, your skin is able to kill a lot of bacteria itself because of its pH level. Just keep the stick in a dry and clean environment and keep your tools clean, you don't have to worry about a thing.
