Any time you are going to buy a Study Bible I think it's best to concentrate on these 2 questions. 1. What translation do you prefer. 2. Who is the General Editor. In my opinion the 2 best translation's of the Holy Scriptures are the ESV and the NASB. The MacArthur Study Bible comes in both Translation's. 2. The General Editor is of course John MacArthur. Now his notes not only are the most through of any Study Bible but also the most accurate. Buy either Translation and compare them to any Study Bible you already have or any from your family or friends and believe me you will quickly see the MacArthur Study Bible is way ahead of all the others.

I do wish that I would have purchased the NASB version, but I did get a premium collection 2nd edition in ESV and am more than happy with it. I will hold on to my premium first edition as well though.

I'd like to gift a bible to my dad for Father's Day this year, but I'm torn as to which to get him, The Reformation Study Bible or MacArthur's Study Bible. He's also a preacher so it's a lil harder to decide, or are they very similar?

I love everything about the Macarthur study bible except the blue / green text in some places. Hard for me to see. Great quality though

I have this edition and it makes Jesus out a lier in John ch7; verse 8 compared to the KJV John ch. 7; v8. I do like Pastor John MacArthur but it is just the NASB, I do not speak Hebrew or Greek so not sure what to make of it.

That’s a bit overpriced. I understand the hard work and materials that are involved in creating such a finely crafted and reliable tool. I know that it’ll come down in price over the course of time, but still... At most I personally think that the initial price should be estimated around $130. I have the first edition of the MacArthur Study Bible in ESV (I hope all the notes get transferred to King James someday), I like the amount of notes that are in this study Bible (aside from doctrinal disagreements that I have with his moderate Calvin-esque beliefs). For me, if I need to, I’ll use it only for historical explanations and other terms. Recently, I bought a Ruckman Reference Bible (kinda overpriced too, but I’d like to keep their ministry alive), and it seems better than the MacArthur Study Bible.
