Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time KZfaqr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. On my channel you'll find lots of videos about drugstore makeup and drugstore dupes (those are my favorites to film!) but I also review high-end makeup as well. Here's how everything held up! 🥰🥰 1. The Benefit mascara didn't smudge or flake on me! Again I wish it gave a little bit more length but I'm super happy with the volume and fanned out look it gives! 2. The Skin Tint from Hourglass actually held up well! At night when I was about to remove my makeup it still looked good, it didn't break up or separate on my skin, which I was worried about since it was so greasy at first. It continued to dry down as the day wore on and lose the sticky feel, but my skin still kept that hydrated glow. It's not bad but I don't love how it feels at first. 3. The LA Girl eyeshadows held up great! It looked just as vibrant at the end of the day as it did when I applied it. I did apply it over the NYX glitter primer though (as I do with all shimmer shadows). 4. The MUFE concealer also wore really well...it didn't sink into fine lines and looked smooth all day on me! 5. The Prisme Libre blushes also lasted all day with just a slight bit of fading toward the end, so it wasn't quite as vibrant but it was still there and looked so smooth and seamless...love them!

Thanks for this update. I can't use products with fragrance due to my skin being so sensitive. Is the fragrance in the Givenchy powders pretty intense or is it barely noticeable?

Not only does it show your vulnerability and trust in the people who support and follow you, it also encourages everyone who watches your video to get checked out regularly. Hi Jen! I totally agree that sharing your story could save others! I myself was a surgical nurse and I had a patient with a cancer diagnosis and it prompted me to get my Pap smear that year.. and this saved me from a worser fate. Then a few years ago, I told this story to a babysitter and she got checked out and herself had something removed, saving her as well. It may seem that there’s not a place for this in a beauty channel but I really think sometimes it’s like chatting with a friend. Thank you for your honesty and I have no doubt you will be fine. 😊

I got my first skin check this year at age 32 because my childhood neighbor, who is only 39, was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. He had the mole removed when he was a teenager - did not have Moh’s Surgery - and it ended up coming back without his knowledge and metastasized before it could be prevented. Truly terrible. Thank you for sharing. I never would’ve gotten checked if it wasn’t for my childhood neighbor. I have no doubt someone will get checked because of your story.

I showed the cancer diagnosis video to my 10 yo daughter who has the same exact coloring as you … and has had a few bad scalp/part line sunburns because she wouldn’t wear a hat. She loves sunscreen and makeup … but the part line was the problem. I think your video helped get through to her! She’s been much better about grabbing a hat while playing outside! ❤ Good luck with the surgery. 🙏🏼🍀

Totally agree with you on the benefit mascara brush. In fact all mascaras from benefit have a fabulous brush which is why I love the fanned effect they give length, separation and volume. ❤ edit. Try the magnet they're real mascara. Gives great length too.

I'm so glad you're talking about the importance of skin cancer screening! I work for dermatologists and have seen a lot of folks who waited too long and ended up with a scary diagnosis and had to go through grueling treatments. Also, another awesome undereye corrector for those who like a creamy texture is the Lottie London one! I can't remember the exact name but it's something like Bright Bounce undereye corrector. And it's at Walmart and super affordable. I like to use it on no-makeup days and it does a really great job of looking natural but canceling out dark circles and hyperpigmentation.

Those Givenchy blushes. Yes ! They are so pretty. I don’t have loose powder blush. So it’s a win ! I love their loose powder as well. I’m 62 and it doesn’t settle in under eye lines. Love

I'm glad you're staying on top of your skin cancer. My dad had regular mole removals throughout his later days, and they always caught the bad ones in time. My SIL and her daughters are also prone to skin cancer, and get checked frequently.

I have been using brown eyeliner for my every day makeup. I think it’s more natural and flattering on me than black. Love the way it looks the Givenchy blush. I am tempted even when I don’t need a new blush. 😊

I’m so sorry about your cancer. I had thyroid cancer in 2016 then it came back in 2019 and metastatic to my lungs and in 2020 also found out I had a rare cancer called Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. I’ve been in different forms of treatment since then. So good luck and many prayers to you and your family.

Another excellent budget micro-tip eyeliner option is the Wet n Wild Breakup Proof Skinny Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. I LOVE it. Bought mine at Walmart, but also on Amazon for about $5.50. Sadly only in black. I really want them to make it in more colors!🌈

I hope you don't take this the wrong way but your videos are so relaxing. It's almost like you have a librarian (in the best way possible) type of voice. I also love how quickly your subscriber count has been going up recently. You deserve it!! As for your cancer, I'm glad you're putting it out there. It could save lives. If someone doesn't like it, then they don't have to watch that video. Personally for me, I have an out of sight out of mind attitude towards my health that is awful and I need to change it like now. I have an 8 year old that got diagnosed with hepatoblastoma (liver cancer) at 3 and watching him go through that was unbearable. I think to myself that I'd never want him to see me like I saw him or worry about me like that, but it's better than not being here at all. I'm going to make that appointment to get that mass on my kidney checked out. Thank you. Sending my best! ❤

I’m often perplexed when blondes are surprised how nice a brown liner looks on them. Girrrl… brown liner (and mascara) often looks so much more complementary on blondes (and many light brunettes). Imho… black liner and mascara can actually look a bit “too smokey”, or dramatic for a daytime look, on a blonde.

Haha I guess it's because I'm not a natural blonde. Up until this past year I had pretty dark hair so I was used to wearing more makeup and I admit I like the softer makeup on me now! 🥰

@@JenPhelps I have medium brown hair and dark lashes… but often wear brown liner and mascara, if I want a “fresher” or “less dramatic” daytime look. Brown liner and or mascara are actually a lot more flattering on many women, than the black versions.

Regarding the brown liner from Moira...they have a dual ended liner, gel pencil/pen, that works beautifully on my hooded eyes. It's the easiest pen liner I've used, I can actually draw it on with one swipe....and it's only $7.00. Moira is such an underrated brand!

Jen, maybe use an eye primer, before you apply the essence liquid eyeshadows. They might apply better and have longer staying power. I love the shades you chose. I want to try the Maybelline eyeshadow tattoo studio liquid eyeshadows and the Milani ones. Those are next. 🌞

We have a family friend who had skin cancer and fully recovered. A few years later, it came back with a vengeance and took him incredibly quickly. It takes years to get into a dermatologist near us, so even if someone had suspicious moles, they’d probably be incredibly sick by the time the appointment actually rolled around.

Jen, I recently got a new cream bronzer I think you’ll love! We’re always looking for the same kind of bronzer color and I got this one a couple months back and have been wearing it nonstop! It’s the Phase Zero Cream Bronzer in Tuscan Sun. It’s the perfect color for fair to light, coon tone skin! It blends in really easily and never looks patchy at all. Dries down on its own without needing set and lasts all day! I’ve really been loving it! Makes me want to try more from the brand! Thought I’d let you know since it’s so hard finding good bronzers that aren’t too warm or orange looking!

I am jealous that the ELF under corrector works for you. I wanted it to, but it was crease city even with the smallest amount and setting it and no coverage no matter what I tried. For my fellow oily skin people that similar products don't work for, try out the Ulta Color Correcting Liquid Concealer. The shade range is sadly not the best, but if one of the shades does work for you they work great for me. Bonus - it works pretty decently as an eye primer as well for those days when I am feeling really lazy, which is saying something for my oil slick hooded eyelids.

I recently tried the catrice fake awake or something it's Incredible! Got it on Amazon..super affordable blends seamlessly and I don't even have to set it or go over with a concealer! If u haven't tried I highly recommend! ❤

This look is one of my favorites - you look so fresh and gorgeous. The blush is so expensive but if that’s how nice it looks, it’s worth it! Am excited about the new mascara. I loved the bad girl bang waterproof one but it did smudge and transfer giving raccoon eyes!

I would add that if *anything* feels off, to go get yourself checked out. My dad, who always seemed to be really healthy (walked the family dog several times a day and ate well), started to feel unusually tired and as it turned out, he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He passed away within two months. Because of that, I have become a huge proponent of PSAs, especially when it comes to serious diseases such as cancer.

I like what you said about the mascara wand, how the brush grips and tugs on the lashes, thats the kind I like as well. I think I will have to check out that mascara. Can you recommend other mascaras with the same type of brush grip? 😁

I must have at least 100 loose mineral blushes from when Bare Escentuals was hot...Ulta still sells them under the Bare Mineral name but only in 4 shades. I'll have to dig thru my collection and make my own little quads! The LA Girl shadows look like fun...I might have to pick those up. My moms hairdresser noticed a dark spot on her head and told my mom to have her doctor take a look at it. Well, it turned out to be melanoma. She had 2 different biopsies done before they removed it. They did a skin graph and placed skin from her upper thigh on her head so now she has a bald spot on the top of her head.

When I was in middle school, we lost my dad to melanoma. Which today is so very avoidable, given all we know about uva/b rays, sunscreen, genetics & prevention etc. He had a few spots earlier in his life & had them removed, had radiation & skin graphs to help his face not look like a patchwork quilt. However, he had worked in the tobacco fields as a teen & became a logger in his twenties -so he was exposed to the sun a lot. Back then, no one realized how much impact excessive sun exposure could have on bodies. As the years went by, many times he’d get sick or find spots/areas. He’d have more removals, radiation & skin graphs. He’d go through it all bounce back & be great- they always said “this time” we’ve gotten it all. He was dilligent about sunscreen, hats & proper clothing after learning everything he could. He was in remission for about 6-7years. One day he notices a small rough patch under his ear like a scab, he thought maybe he had scratched himself but a week later it hadn’t gotten better. Again melanoma. This time they did a 4x4x1 (inch😢) removal from under his ear to the back of his neck, as well as 80% of his ear, radiation & this time chemo. My sister & I were young we didn’t realize that this time he was dying. We thought he would be down for a bit & be ok again. Even our mom didn’t understand at first, partly because she too was young (20 years his junior) & because she believed as we did. This time the cancer had spread to his brain stem -despite carving him up, rounds of radiation & heavy chemo treatments- nothing worked. My dad was never a “huge” man -about 5’8” but he was ripped. He was so muscular and strong, as well as a super handsome ginger) we watched him go from about 170lbs down to the 80’s so rapidly-even still my young brain & heart told me he would bounce back. Unfortunately, he didn’t. Over the years, preventative measures, public access to information, early detection, research & development of better and more broad range of treatments have significantly reduced deaths from melanoma. I wish my dad would’ve lived to see all of the progress. I truly hope your treatment is good and you sharing your story helps others be dilligent about protection and early detection . ❤

oh my gosh that loose givenchy blush is gorgeous. i love the idea of loose blush. i might have to get it 😂 and so excited for the fan fest mascara; benefit doesn’t make a bad mascara ✨ and those la girl shadows are a need! 😍
