There is a version that works without neutral of sonos. I think it's also this version he uses but it's better to double check of course!

What you failed to show is: 1. Turn switch on and turn smart phone switch off 2. Turn switch off and turn smart phone switch on 3. Turn smart phone switch off and turn switch on 4. Turn smart phone switch on and turn switch off.

The reason why the switch is removed out of this circuit instead of in it is to make it possible to have a 2 way with the phone app and the switch, the switching module is always connected to the power no matter the position of the switch, and the state change of the switch triggers the automatic switch to flip
