Try opening up those old max peeding rods to inspect them. Sometimes the nut on the end of the shaft inside comes off. Might be a easy fix and would be interesting to know how it failed.

Oh shit that reminds me of a time doing a front shock change. Cant remember what it was on but as I undid the top mount which is just a top hat so single nut in the middle. The shaft unscrewed internally and I'd already loosed off the bottom bolts. What a bang and fright you get as it jack knifed the shock and spring towards my nuts. Luckily not more than a hard slap to my leg but aye scary times

Great Video and review. Your last video with the adjustable Orange and black Coil overs on your CRX made be buy a set. I paid less than 200$ during a sale. I do not care for how bumpy the ride became. Stance looked fine. You were right about them being a budget starter set to get to know your car, which they did. I think next I will get a set that has better ride quality. Thanks Again for the vids

Hey Jon, Great video as always! Solid review of the coilovers! Being honest, I think I am going to step up to the next level of coilovers when it is time! Or maxspeeding rods will prob go with an over all shorter shock package for the ef chassis as honda and other suspension manufactures have before them.

This was a really insightful and honest overview. i remember commenting back when you put the 2nd set in it would be inteeresting from a longevity POV. Great follow up. Loved the track stuff too. Congrats on the podium and on these budget coils, lets all agree these are the same level as suspension found on cheap mountain bikes and there's nothing wrong with that. But evcen so that set failed one in less than 600 miles? I'd just view these as pure aesthetics (not in your case tho it seems!) at the cost of ride quality and longevity of the parts and not a performance part at all (as they stand). If you get performance from your application consider it a bionus. I'd be looking to get a reputable brand for a bit more as once again it's mostly proven, buy cheap, buy twice.

Sadly I cannot buy this brand. Too many reviews on utube say these components die within a year. Comeon manufacture, you cannot make a shock to last. My past shocks lasted 12 years (ok 5 too many), but you get the idea. good video.

The only downside to that is you have a great chance to experience coil bind. With these shocks it would probably happen, with a shock of better quality it could help offset that from happening.

@hondaland_
@hondaland_ 2 жыл бұрын
Wow they raised prices that high 🤦🤦 not worth it at that price point. Especially if it seems like the coilovers got a revamp on style and not actual performance. If they are going to be that expensive then make model specific versions and correct spring rates for each trim. They can still use the same shocks and get away with it and at least throw correct springs rates for each trim they offer. The spring rates for a crx just don't work well on DC and EG. That's the biggest issue with mine is the soft springs

When you adjust the spring down are you not changing the preload of the spring and putting more of a load on the strut than the spring? Or am I wrong about how that works? Just curious just got a set for my 98 accord. And I actually tightened the springs a few turns to take more of a load off the strut because people have so many problems with them blowing out or just leaking.

I had the black and yellow ones and they were decent but very stiff and they make binding noises. The fronts both blew out after about 10k miles of regular driving. I have purchased two sets of the COT6 black and blue coilovers from eBay for a 03-08 Toyota Matrix and the photo shows the correct coilovers but in the box they are the wrong ones and not the same as the photo. The box had a sticker on it that says 03-08 Matrix so I think they made a mistake at the factory or something. Could have been mislabeled somewhere else in the chain I guess but it is really frustrating. I wanted to try them out but I can’t keep driving on the blown coils.

For the love of god, please lol, im doing a b swap in my ef hatch. Hubs are the last part. When people say to use dx/si knuckle's, do they mean from an ef/eg/ek? Or only an ef? Not sure if you know where i can get some online or what. I live in seattle and work at pick n pull, so i have access to alot of deals, but we dont get anyyy ef's):. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP):

EF knuckles are best, for the 🚟 geometry stays the same. But DA work fine also as long as an alignment is performed after install.

Is it possible the shocks started leaking because they arent ment for the higher spring rate? And maybe rhats why your other set hasnt had issue yet with stock springs?
@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 2 жыл бұрын
I've never read of rates affecting the shock life. I'd think at least 2 would be done then since they all withstood the same abuse. I think it's just quality control, they need to continuously building a shock that superior to previous ones they've built.

@@GarageBuiltHondas usually if you replace springs on shocks that arent rated for them your at risk of blowing them. I figured its the same for coil overs.....cheap ones anyways lol i could be wrong just thoughts. Im about to thow a set on a 01 civic. Kinda wish i got stiffer springs incase i run it at the track

I bought a used G35 and it had these yellow MAXPEEDINGRODS installed on it already and I have no idea how long ago that person installed them but I have only had the car a smidge over a year and the rear coilovers are BUSTED. I'm bouncing all over the god damn place and honestly dislike them very much lol. The front seem to be doing fine though tbh. Again idk how long ago they were put on but a little over a year for me and they were done
