Hello, friends!
I plan on making a new series of videos where I show you some things from the bindery in a bit more detail with commentary.
This time I want to focus on my dad's new project - his designer Dip Pens.
I think they really manage to combine the comfort and beauty of the mahogany wood handle with the handmade silver fittings, tightly protecting and decorating this functional piece of artwork.
The wooden parts have been all formed by hand and hand tools. No machinery was used in the process. It is coated with natural oils and beeswax, later sealed with coatings of shellac. The silver fittings are made from sterling silver.
The length is between 13 and 15 cm, without the nib.
The pens come with a removable nib, which you can replace with the ones you find most comfortable. They use a standard 5 mm nib.
The perfect companion for any of the journals from the bindery!

Both of the dip pens are unique, beautiful and emotional, if you can understand what I mean. Maybe I should have written ‘personal’ instead? What a treat for my tired eyes to see your face on camera... and to hear you speak, delightful! 🥰

Have you ever thought about collaborating with your dad? Like making matching pens and journals or a pen and journal that complements each other's design. That would be so cool

Stopan, Always wonderful to see one of your videos. The quality of the pens is fantastic. They look like an object that someone would cherish for a very long time, like all great hand-made things. There's no doubt that you and your father will continue to make these beautiful things. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Stopan. You work in synchrony with your father so well. It is wonderful to see the fruits of your creative partnership as they develop. Perhaps one day we might see more of this on video? Maybe even an introduction to your father? Or a video of you working together, or talking about your joint inspirations?

Thank you for the kind remarks! He's still camera shy but in the last video with the WELKIN Collection he did make a longer appearance with videos of him working (filmed by himself btw!) One of the problems is that we're still working in separate workshops and until we manage to get our own studio, it's going to be a bit hard of us working together. Our tools are not exactly the easiest to move. As for the talking about our aspirations and introductions, I think he need a bit more time to get used to showing himself in videos without talking. I found it rather hard and I suppose it's even more difficult for him. Also his English isn't good, so the video would have to be in Bulgarian and I'm not sure how this community will react to a full subbed Bulgarian video. I've had some feedback in the past that people feel misled when the title is in English but the content in a different language. Anyway, I'll be sure to work on all of these issues. Thank you for caring, your interest and support! it means a lot! Have a great day!

Stopan, I see. Thank you for taking the time to help me understand. With these things it is often best to let them come about at a natural pace. Your respect for your father is evident and probably one of the reasons behind your successful collaboration. As far as speaking & languages go, the language of the hands crosses all cultures, and your videos are all excellent. Us English speakers can sometimes behave like spoilt children, particularly online. I shouldn’t take too much notice. Keep doing what you think is right. The people who respect you and your vision will follow you, and those who drop away may not have been the best subscribers in the first place. With craftsmanship, as in all of life, it is most important to be true and honest along the way. That way we can all identify with you. I think you are exceptionally good at this. Your descriptions of the artistic struggles are very erudite. How you manage when writing not in your mother-tongue is a source of amazement to me. Please be encouraged to keep going.

And thank you for taking the time to write such nice commentary! I really try my best to be sincere in how I present my works and I'm very glad you've found my way of communicating to be of such merit. Such pieces of feedback are really a treasure for me, much appreciated!

As for the videos in the playlist, none of them are my videos. They're mostly television presentations of craftsmen I respect and admire from my country and I save them more as a personal collection. If any of them get some acknowledgment from my channel, then I've done some bit of good.

a bit of a feedback : i LOVE the aesthetic of the second silver fitting, however, i would be concerned that having dimensional patterns under my fingers would end up hurting or at least be uncomfortable.
@Stopan
@Stopan 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback! A few more people said the same thing and we've discussed it with my dad. A few of the next ones have a decorated silver ring on the base again, but the future designs will have the fittings positioned in other areas to prioritize comfort. To be honest, I have a dip pen with a metal base where the nib is and I use it very frequently, without any discomfort. So the ones my dad made were only based on my understanding on how a pen should be. Hearing other preferences however made us pay more attention in the initial design stages.

@@darklittlepeople Of course! I'd find it a real shame if somebody felt that their pen isn't going to be a good match for them. I'm sure we'll here even more preferences in the future and I'm glad my dad takes it as a creative challenge, rather than a burden,

Would your father consider making oblique dip pens? As a right handed calligrapher I find oblique pens easier to write with.
@Stopan
@Stopan 5 жыл бұрын
We're considering it! But we're going to take our time with the normal pen for now and will probably try something like an oblique pen next year. Thank you for the recommendation!
