In the last 15 years, I've owned more than a dozen controllers. DDJ 400 is an excellent device. FLX4 has smart upgrades, especially for beginners. Nice work Pioneer. I'm excited to see the new mobile app.

For me personally, this video came out at just the right timing (as im holiday shopping). I'm getting back into DJing again (used to own the pioneer DDJ-SR around 8 or 9 years ago) and was looking at getting a new beginner controller that gives alot of compatibility options to ease back into the swing of things without being too overwhelmed on a single decision. Thanks for the info Phil! This controller really does check many of the boxes and main features/concerns I first look for when I'm searching for a unit. Im impressed Pioneer finally did something correct for the enthusiasts / hobbyists currently looking to get into DJing (ESPECIALLY considering this price range)

I was looking for my first controller back in May 2023 and I really wanted to get the DDJ400. New and used DDJ400s were selling well above a brand new DDJFLX 4 ($300) so I went for the DDJFLX 4. I am soooo happy I went for the DDJ FLX 4 over the DDJ400. And I thought I’d prefer Rekordbox over Serato, but thanks to this controller being compatible with both I was also able to try Serato and I’m really liking Serato a lot more.

I love the new updated FX features. I wish they would add theses to the DDJ-1000. They would be awesome to have in that moment you have to mix at the last minute while trying to listen to guest's requests.

I think that this unit is an absolute gamechanger (considering they deliver on the mobile software). The idea of a powerbank powered controller that works with a mobile phone means that you can just take it on the go with relative ease.

This is a ddj 400 on steroids. Works with mobile, tablet or laptop. Midi control via bluetooth. Works with a power bank. Rekordbox and Serato compatible. Microphone features. Great job Pioneer 👍🏻

I just checked out the review and this entire video, and I'm very glad that I'm still saving money and waiting, saved $172 so far, so I'm very close :) and what I'm most excited is the Android support and the future rekordBox mobile app for Android :D hopefully it won't have GUI fragmentation between iOS and Android

I already have a DDJ 400 and I don’t think this has enough modifications for me to swap. However, if I was buying a brand new beginner controller then I would definitely buy this. I like the idea of getting other people involved who wouldn’t normally DJ using the sync/smart fader.👍

The Smart filter seems to be just like the merge effect on the Flx6 but just a two-button control versus the one big knob.

Im impressed Sir😊awesome review, as I have commented before, and I really appreciate all your videos from you took your advice controllers currently. I have a question, did they get rid of the original sync button on this unit? Being disabled and only have ability to use one arm properly I depend on the sync button, and I think it's a wonderful feature on controllers. And like you said, if you don't like it, don't press it. Well said! Also, is there any controller and software that will work with the chrome book? I am desperate to get that working for now until I get windows. Thank you.

This still has a sync button on it. There is an app called Beatport DJ that works on a Chromebook, I am not sure if you can plug in a controller and get that to work though on a Chromebook.

Really informative video. 🙌 As a newbie, this unit looks perfect! It doesn’t seem too overwhelming either, unlike some of the gear I’ve been researching. I’m torn between the FLX4 & the Numark mix track. Budget is playing a big part unfortunately.

FLX4 gives you access to a well featured DJ platform (Rekordbox) as well as the same free Serato access you get for the Mixtrack, so I'd say FLX4.

Hi! I'm a brand new DJ and I wanted to ask you some specifics on controllers if possible :) I have both a brand new Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 and DDJ-FLX6 and I'm trying to decide which to start/learn with. I see pros and cons listed in your videos and they have been super helpful. For a beginner edm DJ, focusing on bass house/tech house, would you recommend one over the other? As a goal of possibly playing with club level equipment eventually. The smartfader seems like a nice feature, but I think 4 channels will help me in the long run? Or any other advice you might have. Thank you!

Honestly, either is fine - it's like wanting to learn to drive, and spending ages worrying about the exact spec of car to learn in. DJing can be learned on either of those units.

If you are DJing with a laptop, there is a Record button in the software. This only works with music you own, not with streaming services.

I can guarantee that at the weeding day mobil djs play and mix very quick the radio version, it is not always a bad thing to do it, because at the wedding you to should make people happy easy with their favorite music, nobody take care if you a super mixer dj in perfection, sometime it is boring for a mix of people.

Regarding the sound path. Do I have to use master out? This is a controller so ideally I would like to use my usb DAC, not the dac in the controller. You mentioned that the sound quality is not the best. But what happens if I don’t use the master out? Is it possible?

Sound quality is fine. I'm not sure Rekordbox lets you re-route audio, Serato certainly doesn't. That's not to say it isn't possible, just I haven;'t tried/don't remember seeing the option.

The best Dj Standalone and controller in the market is the Numark Mixstream pro, you just save a lit more of money, and you get an amazing gear. Pioneer long time ago lost the way overpricing the DJ industry with bad gear. Numark and Denon are making the good way.

The cheaper Standalone player from Pioneer it's to way more expensive than Numark Mixstream Pro and Denon gear. The DJ DDJ-FLX4 it's just a controller, you need a Laptop too, The best option for a good investment is the Numark in my opinion, It's Standalone, 2 usb port, 1 sd card, Big touchscreen , a super good Software, the Engine 2, with Recordbox playlist integration, build in speaker, Wifi for streaming Djs Music Service, and yeah like you said, the FX's are no the best, they fixed a bit better in the new update. I don't care to much about FX, I don't dig Djs that fill the track with a lot of FX's. Don't let it be the track and breath his original vibe, instead of focus on a good mix.The cheaper Pioneer standalone player it's the XDj -700 with a price of $769, just for one Side player for a gear from 2015. The Numark it's $699, the DDJ-FLX4 it's $299, you just save a lit more and you get a better gear for your investment. People check the Numark and make your decisions.

Important question, the DDJ SB3 has two buttons to switch to deck 3&4 but the FLX 4 does not? Is there a way to still use all 4 decks in Serato DJ or is it strictly 2 channel? I don’t want to drag and drop tracks lmao

I am confused about the USB-C outputs and the cable Pioneer will provide with the unit. Does it have USB-C on one end and USB-A on the other end or USB-C on both sides? Will I need to buy any extra cables to connect it to my iPad?

If i was to use this controller on the road mobile DJ whats the headphones monitoring like are the headphones loud enough if i plug it into a bigger system. What is the sound quality like if it was plugged into a system with an external mixer

Hi there, I am on the market currently to buy a new controller and I'm looking at the Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX and the DDJ-FLX4, I love using both programs (Serato DJ & Rekordbox DJ) however I'm not 100% sure on witch controller to buy. I love both layouts and the controllers in itself, and I want to know witch one should I buy as in witch in overall is the better controller, I do love modern stuff and both have it however the DDJ-FLX4 has the phone compatibility witch is superior than the Numark. I'm just really looking for the better recommended controller given they are really good controllers for there price point. Hope to get a reply have a good day/night.

Bro stick with windows and rekord box and you be all good. I personally don't buy this mobile phone/tablet shizzle. A mobile is a phone, if you going to be mixing home, or mobile, then you may as well use a laptop, with a stand. The software runs a lot quicker, get your cue points/keys ect onto a usb drive ect.👍 (p.s I guarantee the mobile apps are cut down versions, and buggy as fcuk for long time)!!

I'm confused about the cables... if I want to charge the mac with my 96V cable while playing, is a 20V iPhone plug for the FLX4 controller enough?

Good question, we are not sure if this would charge a Mac when wired up in that way.

@@assimaimataliyeva9546 Of course so: If you want to charge your mac just take your normal cable and recharge it as always. The second usb c cable goes from the mac to de flx-4 controller. This is already enough. It works like that you don't need more, just the cable for your speakers of course

I got the FLX4 but w no usb c outlets on my laptop have powered usb hub and adapters but no power to play. Any advice?

You need USB PD for the power, but that said your laptop should provide sufficient power for this

Haven't they confused things with he name which sounds like that other, very different, controller (is it the FLX-6?)? And surely it's a pretty good guess that the 800 and 1000 will now get revamps?

How is it confused? Flx or “flex” likely refers to the ability to use with both rekordbox or serato. FLX6 comes with a serato dj pro license and this only come with dj lite …..

I’m currently connected by Bluetooth , I can mix but my synch buttons and cue buttons and play buttons don’t light up? Also headphones aren’t working. Is that due to all my connections being via Bluetooth for now ? 🤔🤔🤔

Can you pair a wireless Bluetooth speaker and plug the headphones in? On DDJ 200 the audio gets unpaired

No DJ would do that, as you need wired speakers for zero latency audio. So in truth, I am not sure, but I doubt it.

@@digitaldjtips I have paired my Bose Bluetooth speaker which has exceptional sound for small mobile gatherings, but it’s a bummer that I cannot cue the next track in the headphones … I have ordered the DDJ - Flx4 so maybe I can plug the headphones into the controller directly

You can connect controllers to any audio equipment, they nearly all have two RCA out sockets.

used to dj back in cali highschool till2010 and moved here in canada. now i have 3kids and thingking to start djying again for my kids. im thingking the hercules jogvision 439 cad. remind me of my old technic turntables. and also the pioneer rev1 379 cad becaused of battle style. pioneer flx4 about 439 cad or the hercules inpulse 500 about 419 cad. maybe anyone can help me. thanks in advance

REV1 if you want to use Serato, FLX4 if you want to use Rekordbox but still have other options open.

Thank you sir, though I have a question please 🙏 . I just got mine, and I realise that I can’t use my laptop and play while I’m charging it at the same time, am I right? So … what, i can play until there’s no battery left on it and that’s it? Cause that’s so bad!😢

Why can't you just leave your laptop plugged in like normal? The controller will take power from your laptop.

@@digitaldjtips because the cable came with the controller is type c, and my laptop’s port for charging is also type C and I was like … how can they do that? But it’s no more a matter, since I just connected a simple cable of a charger to connect the controller with my laptop. So in other words the cable came with the controller is useless to me. Because Bluetooth has latency ie delay. Do not use Bluetooth at all when DJing.

I have a numark mixtrack pro FX, which I like and does the job (home/hobby use). Do you think this is a much better controller and worth purchasing? If not, what would be an upgrade you would recommend?

No, not unless you want to use Rekordbox. Your next upgrade would be to a semi-pro controller like the DDJ-100SRT.
