I am glad to hear you have found a good dealer. There are some shockers around. An old friend in NZ has bought a number of new Porsche's and has a 992. It was off the road for weeks because Porsche NZ sold these cars without making sure tyres were available. Very poor, especially as the Service Manager said anything other than the tyre they specified would void the warranty on the car. Clearly they have no shame. It has paint protection film that appears to have been trimmed by a child and park sensors that fault so often riding in it is a horrible experience, so bad she hardly uses it and calls it her white elephant.

I’ve been waiting for your take on this car for so long. One of the most realistic and detailed person I’ve ever seen! I’d love to see a comparison of the 991.2 sport exhaust and the 992. I know the 992 crackles a bit but I’m interested in seeing the direct comparison and I know you can make it happen! I think the main reason why many complained about the noise was because most reviewers tested it on a European specced 911 with a GPF. Living in America, you have the privilege of unleashing the full exhaust note.
@Nord_Mann
@Nord_Mann 4 жыл бұрын
Wahab .Goldsmith yes you’re right about that. The 992 I tested in its loudest setting was more muted than my Carrera T in normal mode. It’s was a heartbreaking experience. WHAT had Porsche done to the 911! And the lateral screens down right annoy me Nick!

Got to agree. I loved the sports exhaust on my 991. I could spend all day lifting off at 4K rpm and listening to those crackles. The sports exhaust on my (UK spec) 992 is so disappointing. Much like the Goodyear Eagles fitted as standard. Why? Handling on the other hand is mind bending. The turn in is immensely satisfying. The acceleration is markedly harder and the interior is finally 21st century. And the looks as Nick says are much better in real life.

As a current Porsche owner with a 2020 cayenne on order, there are not enough buttons in here! All the different button configurations are crazy, there should be easier access for all of those different modes and setting. I know I’m always using them, and it’s a little annoying having to go through the screen all the time. Overall though, huge improvement!

Couple of points to add as a personal openion: - I would like to see more classic looking head & tail lights option that are not blacked out to go better with the lovely darker shades that this model offers. - I believe the sport exhaust can look better and prefer the look of it below the bumper instead of it going through it. Otherwise I love it and looks like a very promising generation!

My 2-cents: I really like the flared wheel wells (wide body option) and horizontal brake light being present on every model. Those were my favorite features of the previous all wheel drive models. I don't need the door handles to have the stowed position with a solenoid to present it for use but, oh well. I appreciate the sales job you did on my 991.2. Hi Nick..... Thanks for your most excellent review.... I,m looking at changing my car sometime soon and your points and comments are really really useful.... especially the bit about being able to turn off the volumetric alarm inside ( we have family hound who always comes with us ) plus the other tips So thanks for that. But I,m a bit torn between 991.1 GT3 and the new model 992 Carrera S.... Would appreciate your advice if you get a spare minute.... GT3 here in the UK I can buy for less money than the new 992 but other points nobody mentions are running costs with fuel etc and with the GT3 if you have a puncture or need to change a tyre you have to go to a Porsche Dealer as they are the only ones who have a suitable wheel brace/spanner to get your wheels off..... then you have to pay Porsche Dealer prices!!!! Is the radar and camera driver assistance system able to be turned off? I hate that with a vengeance. And what about things like the lights? Quality of audio system and how does it handle in the wet? Rains a lot here in the UK Cheers Loving your work though fella Thanks Regards Roger

I'm at the end of my 6000km European delivery Grand tour of the Alps with my new 992 Carrera S. After a month doing 40+ mountain passes in Switzerland, Austria, Italia and France, here what I can say about this car compare to my 2018 991.2 GTS that Nick was so jealous about: The car feel more secured to the ground, probably due to the larger front, power plant moved forward 10cm and transmission apparently 150 lbs heavier making the car more like a mid engine (even if it's not); When I initiate a tight turn, the stearing react more quickly than before and feel better and heavier. May be also because the weight is more toward the front wheels and larger front; Overall line way more modern. The redesigned front end back make the car no longer related to the Beatle (IMO). I was racing in Switzerland in the Nufeneun pass with a bike that was pushing me only to discover that at the top, the bike was a cop! He liked my car so much that he was more interested to ask me info on it and didn’t give me a ticket! The new turbos on the engine are smaller than on my GTS and coupled with the amazing 8 speeds new double clutch transmission, acceleration are mind-blowing and turbo lag not perceptible in Sport plus mode; I’m a true manual transmission lover but I must admit that this transmission is absolutely a most in a racetrack or in a mountain pass when you need two hands on the wheel. Gear changing is perfect on Sport plus mode. About technical problems, no seat squeaking (may be because I’m not as fat as Nick) but I have to connect my iPhone with the cable to get AppleCar. Door not opening when the car is running and when I tried to pay a toll with my Apple Watch, if I open the door to get closer to the reading unit, the windows lift just to piss me off! Overall, great car, love the new exterior lines and interior finish (I have no interior option except the red seatbelt and it’s perfect). Enjoy! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/atWpZ5mQnNaaZqM.html

Claude Auclair My 992 C4S is magnificent. It tracks like on rails, sticks to the ground like paint. The center of gravity is lower, the car is wider, the tires and wheels are wider, all to make the car more stable. I have a 996 TT X50 and I thought it was the car to be reckoned with. Nah! Great review, Nick! I borrowed (rented) a 992 C4S in Switzerland this summer, and the only real design flaw I noticed was the interior door lever, that can pinch your pinky or ring finger when opening the door. I drove from Lucerne to the Alps and back. It felt like a Mercedes. Through tunnels, the flat-6 sounds mean and purposeful. In the tightest of turns, it felt as nimble as my MX-5. The new carbon ceramic brakes are actually usable in traffic. Hit the push-to-pass button and the car downshifts from 8th to 2nd instantly and now the car is at 6,000 RPM happily awaiting your foot’s command to break the laws of physics. I’ve daily-driven only manuals since 2009, but the immediacy of the PDK combined with the power delivery of the new 9A2 made me think that someday I could give up manual transmissions and be perfectly fine with PDK. Heresy, I know.

@Kiarax1
@Kiarax1 4 жыл бұрын
Did they fix the ones in yours, though? That’s one thing I’ve found to be conflicting - everyone talks of Porsche’s build quality, yet many owners I speak to describe rattling this and squealing that. WTF? Once they put out an official video “explaining” why their brakes squeal, I was wondering why Ferrari doesn’t do the same, or why Chevy doesn’t also do so. When I’m paying big bucks, I expect damn near perfection and not rusty bolts and basic car building 101 stuff going wrong... urrrgh!

Um no they did not fix the squeaks in the new one. They still squeak. And there is no fix for that.

@@Kiarax1 They did finally fix the squeaks and rattles. When I complained about the seat they tested 3 other 991.1 cars and said they all did it so it was functioning properly. When I insisted they fix it anyway they finally did. I put felt everywhere I could think of that could cause the sounds and when I'd pick the car up and they didn't fix it I'd drive right back and demand they do it right. The service adviser rode with me and had the radio blasting, which of course I told him made no sense if you're listening for rattles. He said it's a high performance car so you expect rattles, which did not sit well with me. After a lot of complaining I also changed the tires from the Pirelli to Michelin (Pilot Sport 4S I believe) the last remaining squeaks/rattles were gone. Overall it's a well built car as far as feelining stable and the mechanical parts, but the fit and finish things that should be easy like the sun visor or center console were not put together well.

@@bigmacdaddy1234 Obviously I was being sarcastic. What a disappointment. The cars drive well and I'm glad I can still get a manual, but I was not happy with the attitude from the Porsche dealership about the squeaks and rattles in a car that cost over $100k

I bet you were furious - you pay six figures for a car that is said to have “excellent build quality”, only to then be told you have to “expect” rattles and squeaks that you’d reject in Kia? WTF? If it’s such a feature, why not mention it in the sales brochure?

I feel the same way about the technology as you feel about the power they put out now. The new interior looks too tech for me. As an owner of a few 911's over the years, I went with the last of the 991.2 C4 and absolutely love it. The old ones had less tech to go wrong making them almost bulletproof. Never fixed them. And what do you think about that mini shifter now? Do you need tweezers to operate it?

Nick, I agree, the 992 looks so much better in flesh. But I need to check about the base model not arriving with a manual gearbox. I thought that was the case. I'm going to give Germany a call. Thanks for the video.

Nick, I now have my 992 C4S home. What a “WONDERFUL” car! Replaced my 996 TT X50. The X50 has 450 HP, 5-speed Tiptronic+, but this 992 will smoke my beloved 996. LIke you said...this is a complete overhaul and everything is better. The standard brakes are phenomenal! The new 8-speed PDK is phenomenal! The Bermester stereo is just crazy good. Everything is solid, solid, solid. No squeaking that you mentioned. I clicked over and now have only about. 600 miles on the odometer, but this boy is going to be driven, just as my 996 and my F-model (first generation) were driven. This car tracks like it’s on rails, it’s 4-wheel steering and it turns 45-degree bends into seemingly straightaways! I am 1,000% satisfied this this beautiful jewel!

MBisFrenchy I think Nick’s 991 problems were not typical. I’ve been around Porsche cars (especially 911 cars), owning and driving them since the F-model (1963=1973), and I’ve never personally heard of what Nick experienced.

Finally! Nick you took too long but glad you did review the 992. I look forward to your video on the options. May I say I agree when you say a prospective buyer should go and see the cars in person. The colours on the Porsche configurator here in the UK, are not what they really look like in person.

My 992 was ordered in April 2019 and delivered in November 2019. The car is lizard green (no longer offered as an upgrade unless you want to spend $11K more) and has sport exhaust. One of the 4 toggle switches under the display is for the sport exhaust so it seems odd that your loaner didn't have that switch. What I am missing are the switches that allow the user to set certain options (the diamond buttons). I only have one on the steering wheel. One problem I found is with HomeLink. No more physical buttons for opening the garage door. It is all done with software which might seem good because you can program up to 6 garages, but when you back out of your garage, you no longer see the HomeLink screen so you have to search for it. The real problem is that HomeLink every so often asks me to reconfigure it; that is, it forgets what I have already programmed my garages, and to find the screen, I have to go at least 3 screens into the PCM.
