Finally a real review instead of a guy driving the car in a 5 minute video and repeatedly saying that it's a great and fast car. This is an actual review for people who are considering to buy the car. Still don't know whether to go for this or the cayman though, it's just such a hard decision.

Excellent review! This is now my favourite review channel. I've grown accustomed to the longer time your reviews take, as it gives me a much more comprehensive understanding about the positives and negatives of each car. I prefer your slower, measured approach to the "wam-bam-thank-you-mam" contributions of most other reviewers. Clever one-liners and hasty conclusions don't impress me anymore. Keep up the good work!

Excellent review Thomas! I have my (Lava Orange) GTS Cabrio ordered and am eagerly awaiting delivery in December. Since I live in an extremely hot climate, I went for the full leather interior with vented seats. In the end much more comfortable in the long run vs Alcantara inserts with the GTS interior package. Most importantly, the first thing I'm going to show off to my friends is the "cahr-bowne style...just for my beverages"! Seriously, I love your reviews. Keep up the great work!

Great review, Thomas! I have a 2016 GTS cabriolet with an NA engine on the way. What are your thoughts on PDCC? Did your car have PDCC? And your thoughts on the PDK vs manual? Mine will have PDCC and PDK. Totally agree with you on the NA over the turbo engine. Thanks for your insight!
@autogefuehl
@autogefuehl 9 жыл бұрын
+Matthew J. Enna, M.D. thanks Metthew! Sounds like a great choice. Especially because they are getting rid of their NA engines now, so best time to secure a NA one. PDK is very good as manual shifting is imho annoying in every day driving but at the same time you can have it sporty if you want. About PDCC, it surely adds some more adaptive control over your car, however the standard suspensions are already very good so you wouldnt miss it, if you didnt have it. Still, its not bad to have it :)

Just bought a used 2011 GTS in white - same as shown. The newer models have better buttons and the auto wind deflector. This only allows for a manual deflector, which would appear to be a bit of a pain to constantly put on and take off. Would you leave the deflector on? I have to purchase one. is there a model you would recommend?

Thomas this was a very comprehensive review. I am new to Porsche coming from Mercedes CL600 and really looking to get it right. I will be looking at your other reviews as I initially was looking for a 911 S convertible this time around and had not considered the GTS until now. What are your thoughts on the new refresh expected at the end of the year. Should I wait, or would I be loosing the sound feel of the NA engine without turbo?
@autogefuehl
@autogefuehl 9 жыл бұрын
roco1613 Hey! Great to hear that. You know we are having like 1 or 2 new full reviews per week so we'd be glad if you joined us there. Actually I would definitely go for the naturally aspirated engine - it's just so awesome. But you can also wait until the Turbo comes and then buy the older model with the flat engine - unless you want it 100 % new. But I wouldnt expect any major improvements from the update

Excellent presentation, but you failed to mention whether it's four wheel drive. I'm American and I'd like to know if the car can be had with bullet-proofing. You did say that it also comes with manual transmission, but how many forward gears, and does the manual transmission come with double clutch? I like to take care of oil change and brakes: would that be as straight forward as in my Honda?
@freedomrider266
@freedomrider266 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the 15 and 16 both had available AWD models...The manual was a 7 speed (7 forward gears), but no manual comes with a double clutch (if you mean on the automatic with manual mode, then yes, the PDK is a twin clutch, maybe the best ever). No, changing oil is NOWHERE near as straight as your Honda. The brakes are brakes, but you might want to let the Porsche dealership handle that task. I know this answer is really late, and you probably already know all this, but just in case....

Hello from across the great pond...Thomas. This is a review I have been waiting to see. I'm a current Porsche Cayman S owner, but just recently ordered a Cayman GTS . Choosing between the Carrera GTS and the Cayman GTS was a difficult decision, but I opted for the mid engine configuration of the Cayman along with the balance, agility and handling characteristics that it offers. Like yourself, I am a huge fan of alcantara and contrast stitching, both of which are featured in the GTS versions. I find the GTS versions of these vehicles to be the most attractive and sporty of the Porsche line. I am curious why the PDK in the GTS models is configured so that you push the gear lever forward to upshift and pull back toward you to downshift. This is not the case in the new GT3. In the GT3, you pull the gear lever toward you to upshift and away from you to downshift. This feels more natural to me, and is one of the reasons I decided to go with a standard gearbox in my factory ordered Cayman GTS. One other feature of the Carrera GTS that I find particularly appealing is the black engine grill. The contrast between the black grill against the white car is beautiful in my opinion. Thanks again for another in depth and insightful review . I thoroughly enjoy your analysis of these very desirable vehicles, and use them as a tool when evaluating the cars myself. Your videos are well done and very much appreciated. Looking forward to your review of the new Porsche Cayman GT4. Best regards from the U.S. Frank

This was a proper review of a Porsche. He even showed how impractical the "back seats" are by actually sitting in them. I hope the Porsche factory was watching this and asking themselves, "Why didn't we do that?" I mean it costs over 100k and you can't even seat in your own back seat? What a croc>>>

I just strolled a little through a german car purchase portal looking for offerings of the GTS. I saw that not all GTS have the double-bridge rear-view mirrors, a lot have not. I guess but am not absolutely sure, that this racing rear view mirrors are only at delivery by theAWD versions of the GTS. Btw: Im not sure which color i would pick (if I had the money), there are some extraordinary sensational looking colors available such as: racing yellow, viperngreen, lava-orange or even dark blue metallic paint. Maybe i would choose sexy viperngreen. ;-)

+eisenherz188 No, they are an option for the Carreras and I guess many people don't order them because there is no motorized/folding version of these, only for the standard ones. I would also option other stuff before these, they are not cheap...

Hi Thomas. Have you had a chance to ask the people at Porsche about the turn signal lever? I find it very odd that they would choose an inferior mechanism in such a quality automobile. I've seen a few of your Porsche reviews where you had mentioned this as a "criticism". I would be interested in their response. Thanks again! The GTS convertible suits you well - no?!? :) What do you think - the blue or the white? Both excellent choices.
@autogefuehl
@autogefuehl 9 жыл бұрын
Mario Dalla Riva Hey Mario, thanks for your feedback! :-) Indeed that one suited me very well. I loved the white/black combi. Indeed I would go for blue or white, but as Porsche offers the excellent Sapphire blue, I would go with exactly that blue then! About the turn signal lever, didnt ask about it yet, but indeed its rather strange, because even in the Skoda Octavia e.g. you have a nice turn signal lever which you can control without resistance. I think its just one of these few thing that arent perfect - but in such a perfect car you can only realize such details

@LaMaiStyle

It does fit a medium suitcase, about 25” flat side down and a duffle bag on top. Or 2 carry on 20” cases on the flat sides, or 1 carry on 20” case and a 40 liter women’s back pack on top. It holds a lot in the front trunk if you place soft bags in Tetris configurations. I know this because I drive my boxster on long road trips and to the airport. In the reviews, the hosts do not truly demonstrate real luggage space. They kinda throw in their camera bag and a shopping bag and say that’s all it’ll fit. But Porsche has the best front trunk than Lamborghini or Ferrari . I’m not sure about the McClaren.

I think the camera work has some problems in your videos. You make such long takes that it's hard for the camera to keep the pace. You could try using shorter takes, and then use more variety of shots. For example, when you where talking about the alcantara-leather seats, around 9:00, it would've been a good moment to make cut, insert a shot of the seats, while you keep talking voice-over. I hope you can understand what I mean.

Im thinking about grabbing a 991 GTS or a 991.2 GTS if they are NA. I would venture to guess that'll be the swan song for NA GTS's. Ive got a 991 GT3 and absolutely love it, Porsche is the best-it's a lifestyle! Does the 991 GTS come in a manual? If so, even more rare down the road

+ERIC DAVIS As I have said in the review, if it would be a 911 for me, I would go exactly for this very car we have presented. Have you seen the new Turbo ones? I am not convinced of the sound. Plus they only offer full-genuine-leather equipment from standard production whereas you can at least get alcantara parts here with the GTS version.

yes Ive been looking at the 991.2 turbo car iterations. Im a NA guy and love the visceral experience, the new turbo's seem muted and to tame. They are fabulous cars but I still like the raw NA.
@autogefuehl

+ERIC DAVIS true. I would either go for NA or if not, directly take some electric stuff :)

The only Turbo I'd consider is the Turbo S. Ive been looking at some 997.2 Turbo's and S's. They are priced very well right now nd might grab 1.

I think if someone has the money for a Turbo, should go for it. Otherwise, GTS is a better option over Carrera S or even Targa .
@autogefuehl
@autogefuehl 9 жыл бұрын
V1perKiller I also think that the Convertible is better than the Targa, as the wind noises are less in the Cabriolet imho. Although the Targa looks quite fancy. Why would you prefer the Turbo over the GTS?
@V1perKiller
@V1perKiller 9 жыл бұрын
***** I prefer the Turbo because of its performance, also it's not just a track oriented car like GT3. Although I agree that Turbo doesn't sound as good as the GTS , That's a price I'm willing to pay for better performance. TBH I haven't driven the 991 Turbo or the 991 GTS, but since a short driving experience I had with a 997 Turbo S, I've fell in love with Turbo versions. To answer your question about Cayman or Boxter, I'd prefer any 911 over them because of their more refined design.

Does Porsche still do that stupid thing where you can't adjust the passenger seat? Anyways great review and great car but it is too big in my opinion to be a fun track car but nevertheless; I wouldn't turn it down haha.

OK, just so you know, the Corvette ZR1 has the second fastest time ever at VIR, beating the Porsche 911 Turbo S by many seconds. And that car is wider and heavier than the GTS...So no, it's not to big to be VERY good at the track.

Depending which F trim and if fully loaded...You wouldn't have a ton of change, but what change you did have would MOST certainly need to be put aside for reliability issues with Jaguar...I LOVE the look and sound of the Jag, but in USA, every time you need a part it's days before it comes in.

Really? Not this "real men" crap again. I would go 911, but the Cayman is how Porsche SHOULD have been building the 911s all along. Could you imagine what this car would be like if Porsche engineers had 50 years of experience tweaking a mid-engine 911?
