I wish instead of one big palette, they had done a four pan palette for each scout. Also, individual lip kits for each scout with a lipstick and gloss in their colors. I mean, it's spooky season, now's the time to put out blue lip products for Mercury and green for Jupiter!

@@mochi_nailz Yes, I'm aware that Sailor Mercury doesn't actually wear blue lipstick. Their mouths are usually just drawn as black lines, so they really don't wear any lipstick at all. Or eyeshadow, for that matter. But this is a make-up collection and the purpose of it is to remind people of the characters. So if a character is associated with a certain color (blue, green, etc), you might as well go all out with that color and make products that are a little more fun and interesting.

@@mochi_nailz there are alot disney make up wich the character does not wear the color... ur logic make zero sense. Rihanna also release make up colors wich she does not wear in her videos or concerts.

As a lifelong Sailor Moon fan, I'm not disappointed by the color story in this, and I really want the eyeshadow palette. While I don't think that the eyeshadow colors represent the characters (which is what I bet a lot of Sailor Moon fans wanted), I feel that the color stories of both palettes represent all of the pastels shown in the anime. Lots of the cityscapes and landscapes shown throughout the show do, indeed, have pastel coloring. I also believe that this color story is more "wearable." I'm not someone who likes to do super bold makeup, so I probably would have skipped the eyeshadow palette had I seen a super bright matte blue (for Sailor Mercury), a matte red (for Sailor Mars), or a matte orange (for Sailor Venus), for example. I just ... Don't wear eyeshadows like that. I'm definitely more of a pastel kinda gal with makeup because of how much softer it looks. Plus, Colourpop has that rainbow palette already with all the Sailor Guardian colors you could ask for, really ... I think that this particular color story is lovely and more unique. I can't wait to get it.

I've been a huuuge Sailor Moon fan for 25 years, and I love the color story of the palette. It reminds me of some of the watercolor backdrops the original show had, or Crystal Tokyo specifically. I do think there are some missed marks in the collab - heart-shaped compacts (CP already has the components!), individual lipglosses for each inner senshi (they could have even done "colorful" shades that are PH-adjusting to hop on that trend) - but I think the colors themselves are very nice. Glad to see the palette performed well, too, especially since they've had some duds lately. Thank you for the in depth review and swatches! Definitely gonna pick up a few pieces from the collection.

As a fan of the series, I enjoyed the first release and I was a little skeptic at first with this one, but seeing both collections side by side. This collection is more of a complimentary collection to the first one. I understand what Colourpop was trying to do with this collection and the fans that are into Sailor Moon who were complaining wanted a more brighter and less neutral shades in the palette. I for one will definitely be buying this collection 😀

I love SM and I know I sound like a broken record when I say Colourpop totally missed the opportunity to use the heart compacts on these collections. SM literally has a heart compact for transformation and it's nowhere to be found in these two releases 🥺

I’m pretty sure Japanese makeup brands (or just Bandai, idk) have done something like that (makeup products in the compacts/brooches from SM), so I wonder if CP not doing that has to do with limitations on the licensing/what images they could use and not so much with what CP “wanted” to do. I also imagine something like that would be very costly to manufacture (they’d have to make/commission custom molds for the components) and I don’t think something so detailed would result in a product within CP’s price range.

@@cvgsunset5844 I totally get that theres most likely some limits placed in their license and budgeting, so no new containers, but CP already has the heart compacts they use during valentine's season so that wouldve gone perfect with this collection. Even if it was just a pressed image in the powder with the plain compact wouldve been nice

As someone who grew up in Japan and watched the originial series air on primetime Japanese tv in the 90s, of course I got most of the items. Ugh. Lol. Add it to my huge collection of Sailormoon toys, manga, bags, dolls, trading cards, stationery, etc that I purchased while living in Japan back then! 😂

This collection is absolutely adorable, and I would love it even if it was a regular non-IP collection. I understand a lot of people's complaints, but I think it makes sense not to use 'character colours' in every collab palette because so many use the same colours. Especially if this becomes another permanent collab. Definitely wish they had used heart-shaped compacts, however!

I think it was one of the things that made the last air bender, legend of korra and naruto palettes get slack. Last airbender used the four elements and was a hit, Korra also used the four elements plus a bit of other colors and looked kind of similar to last airbender to make people wonder if they needed to get it if they'd gotten the first, and naruto used the character colors and it looked so close to korra! Had they gone the character route there's a chance it would have happened the same thing, having greens, blues, reds, yellow, maybe a small pop of pink....

All I could think when you put the balm thing on was "ugh, that's going to lift your powder products" 😆 My hooded oily eyes shy away from things that don't dry down. Love your eye look. Did something similar yesterday within my own stash. I love a pastel lilac and ethereal green shimmer moment 👍🏻

Even though I watch many creators, in addition to you, I will always use your code as you are the only one who rarely, if ever, complains about anything Colourpop. I just don't understand complaining about how many releases a brand does. If you don't work there, why should you care???

Elder Sailor Moon fan here! I did pick up some of this collection. As far as it being show accurate or more colorful goes, each character has their own color scheme, and they could have gone that route with the palette. However, it wouldn't make a coherent usable palette. Maybe if they do a 3rd round they will do separate 4-5 pans for each character's color and theme....

Thank you so much for this review, Amanda, and I’m so glad that you ended up enjoying some pieces from the collection, despite not being a fan of Sailor Moon. 🌙✨The look you made with the palette is so pretty! My thoughts: I don’t think I will purchase this palette, because I think I can dupe the shades and vibes across my current makeup collection, BUT I think this color story is much more “Sailor Moon” than the first release (which I also did not purchase). These colors definitely evoke the dreamy backgrounds of the 90s anime, and I think CP shot themselves in the foot by putting the images of the senshi in their super bright uniforms front and center when those colors (from their outfits) are nowhere to be found in the collection. If they’d framed it around the 90s anime vibe of Sailor Moon, or used images of the girls in their everyday casual clothes (which leaned more pastel, generally), I think fan expectations when the collection was teased could have been managed better, and people wouldn’t have been so disappointed when the colors were revealed. Or if they wanted to do dreamy pastel, they could have used the theme of “Moon Kingdom” and used images of the Moon Palace from the 90s anime on the palette cover, but that may have been too niche, idk. As I mentioned in another comment reply, I imagine CP were VERY limited in what images they could use and how they could use them, due to licensing limitations, so… 🤷 It is what it is. @ Everyone wanting separate palettes or quads for each senshi: I get it and at the same time, do you not remember how long the Animal Crossing, Hello Kitty, and Zodiac quads languished on the CP site? Have you already forgotten the NBA palettes, which also sat on sale for SO long? While the branding for those might have been less popular among CP’s customer base, those are basically what you’re wanting: bright, saturated palettes with one dominant color and one or a few coordinating colors, and those did not sell well. Another question: how would palettes or quads for each soldier be appreciably different from the monochrome 9-pans that already exist within CP’s line, particularly for Mercury? As much as I agree that it would be fun to see, from a business standpoint, I understand why CP chose not to do it. A more realistic hope might have been bright super shocks for each soldier, either a single or a duo. I think that was a missed opportunity, but it seems like CP is pulling back on their collection sizes, so again, I can understand why they didn’t do this. The last thing I’ll throw out there is that, as a fan, I’m glad they used more images from the original anime (particularly the shots from the transformation sequences on the packaging) and not the 2010’s artwork (which they used in the first collection along with the one image from the 90s anime they used on the box of the first palette) or the “current” Crystal/Cosmos/Eternal artwork that’s being used on Japanese merch. Also, the shade names in the palette could have been better, but again, it might have been a licensing issue, and I guess they used a lot of the good terms from the show in the first palette. 😅🥲

Personally I think a true Sailor Moon colour story lies somewhere between these two palettes, but I guess it makes sense to make each a little wearable. I agree that there isn't enough scout representation. Maybe I'll create my own.

Me watching this like I'm not going to immediately get it when it comes to Ulta. 😂 While I don't think either palette's color stories fit the theme, ColourPop has so many shades that do. Thanks so much for comparing this palette to Haunted Mansion. I wouldn't have realized they're so similar. I find it interesting that CP keeps offering eye/face gloss. Back in 1977 glossy eye-shadow was a thing. It looked so cool. But back then no one could make it last for more than 15 minutes. It sounds like the formulas are the same, so it's still not wearable!

Omg we think alike, i was thinking of getting this for my daughter because she loves my mercury retrograde and she's not in to brand as much as i am. Im not a high end person or anything but i will pay for quality and she's not as into makeup as i am.

I recently decluttered the first one and I much prefer the tones in this, but I think it's a little too close to the Haunted Mansion palette. Need to save that money. May try to grab one of the highlighters though.

Do you consider your skin tone warm or neutral? You look so beautiful in both lip colors. I thought the brown/nude blotted lip would be too warm but how it looks on you is making me want it. Thank you for the fantastic swatches, as usual! 💕

The colors really don't scream SM to me, but neither did the colors of the original palette. Put both palettes together and it becomes much better, but still it's missing something. SM aside though I do really like these colors. I missed out on thr haunted mansion palette so it's nice to know this one is very similar.

I think the color story it's more like when they are transforming, so the art should've be more of that, which is also beutiful

OMG I think I need the eyeglooss just to look at it :D Can you imagine supershock in this shade like irridescent or trasparent multichrome supershock? Like take my money :D ..I don't really know Sailor Moon other than I heard it exist, but I do have to say this collection is pretty darn cute, not a fan of the lip stuff, but the rest of it looks super nice and actually kinda new and fresh, I might get something from this collection, I need something to add to the Prance liner in my cart to justify the shipping :D

The finishes differ but I have Aurora Struck so I can skip this palette. Really the only thing I would want are the brown lip kit and the blue/green eyeliner.

4:51 well as a huge fan of Sailor moon, Im really dissapoint about the colors but I truly understand why they did what they did, I understand that it is complementary to the first shadow palette, but we already have it, we would have liked them to do justice to the sailor scouts and brighter colors(since they are using the scouts on the packaging), but I understand the concept of colourpop.

I loved Sailor Moon as a kid. The palette doesn’t really seem specifically dedicated to the show. Each scout had a different color uniform so I think they should have kept that in mind for the shadows, glossy lips and eyeliners - they chose random colors and only a couple. And more sparkly, shimmery magical stuff.

Everyone keeps mentioning that each scout should have gotten a quad or something. Completely agree… but it’s never going to happen after the Animal Crossing collab a few years back. While it sold out initially, it then was on sale and discounted for months and months… The profit for a set of quads is much lower than a single palette. I wish they’d do it. But they won’t…

I wonder if they are covering the color scheme for the other sailor scouts (sailor Neptune, Uranus and Saturn). These sailor scouts have more cooler tone than the originals. I wish colourpop would’ve include them in the cover/packaging? maybe it will make more sense?

I was really waiting up on some cool tones for the scouts with the cooler colour theme, but alas all CP gave is the classic warm, bright colours.

I was really disappointed as a fan seeing it first. Seeing it next to the other palette and seeing the colors on skin made me like it more in the context of a sister palette. But I wish there would’ve been some differences. Lipstick instead of gloss. Heart blushes in the sailor moon compact. I like the eyeliners. I would’ve loved some super shock shadows instead of the gloss. Instead of it being mostly a replica of the first with different colors and packaging. I’m still going to get some things from the collection, but as a fan, it was a little let down.

The eye gloss is so gross to me but I'm not one of the young kids haha. I love the purple highlighter, probably won't get it. The first palette is not me but this one is, still not getting it, I have too much makeup and I do have aurora so I am set. Love the pink lipstick, perfect for hot barbie summer continuing into fall, but rarely wear liquid lips, I don't need it. I like Sailor Moon but no expert on it.

Love the look... before that awful eye gloss lol, I do like allot of this collection, but I'm not a fan of the pressure that CP has put on people in one of their most recent posts... they are creating "panic purchasing", so I got really turned off from the brand itself. Probably going to get this, if it doesn't sell out, but I'm more then likely going to get it from Ulta on Sunday. But thank you for your ALWAYS super helpful swatch comparisons... you started that and I'm seeing other people starting to do it now, but I'm always going to come to you 1st!💜🫶🏻💜
