Today we are happy to introduce a beautiful new product, our 15th Century French Glaive. We are very excited about this piece as it constitutes a significant upgrade in our offerings, one that we think you will really appreciate. Our glaive is a close replica of a historical artifact in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with some aesthetic additions drawn from illustrations in Jean Froissart's 14th century Chronicle of France. The blade is 1/4" thick 6150 carbon steel with an acute distal taper, and two cutting edges hardened and tempered to 50-52 Rockwell. We hand forge the socket from 1/8" mild steel and mount the head for an octagonal haft of ash wood that we hand select and shape to each individual weapon. Below the head we have a rondel guard and inset langets to protect the hands and the shaft, respectively. The butt end is furnished with a cap and a tapering spike over two inches long.

As always, our swords and other weapons are entirely made by us at our shop in Minneapolis, MN out of 6150 carbon steel, hardened and tempered to 50-52 Rockwell. Our swords are made to look, feel, and function just like the historical originals on which they are based.

I love it! Glaives are mentioned a lot in English Wars of the Roses muster rolls - even more often than bills in some cases. The problem is that we don't know what type exactly, and 'glefe' and similar words sometimes just means a spear in Germanic languages.

I'm always overjoyed to see more polearm representation in this market, and the hobby as a whole. The glaive is such a strange beast. It superficially looks like a long bladed spear, but in use is much more focused on cutting than one would have imagined. The butt spike on this model is a welcome addition. I can't wait to get more details about this latest offering from Craig, Nathan, and the rest of the A&A crew. Cheers.

I'm wondering if in future videos you would be able to show pictures from shaping the haft to fit the socket and langets. I have had a really hard time finding any reference images for that part of the process.

It looks amazing and very practical, great work. I have only one question. What might be the practical reason for that unparalleled edges if any?

hmm not an obvious tactical reason but more likely to keep the base of the blade as stiff as possible.
