Feature length mowing, string trimming, hedge trimming, and edging on a new client visit. The lawn was something like 3 or 4 weeks of growth, nothing crazy, but some of the hedge trimming was a real workout. The lawn does get treated so it is very thick and healthy grass thanks to the fertilizers and other treatments the company in charge of applications applies.
For this job I used my Bobcat QuickCat 36" stand on mower, mainly because it is the only of my mowers I have an OEM chute blocker for and if I didn't use one I would have shot clippings into landscape beds. I get lots of comments about installing OCDC (operator controlled discharge chutes) but don't want to sink the cash into one since in most cases I don't need one.
The edger, string trimmer, and hedge trimmer are all TORO 60 volt attachment products, which run off one 60 volt power base and attach/detach in the middle of the shaft. The hedge trimmer is articulating, which means the angle of the hedge trimmer head can be adjusted.
Q and A:
Q: Why are you mowing in that pattern? You should have mowed in straight lines.
A: Making a video like this requires cutting the yard into small filmable sections. Straight lines don't make a good video, so I go in small squares or circles instead.
Q: What equipment are you using?
A: Bobcat Quickcat 36" stand on mower, TORO 60V attachment capable base with string trimmer, hedge trimmer, edger. Some random hand tools. STIHL BR800 blower.
Q: Didn't I see this video before?
A: No, this is a new yard I have never serviced or filmed before. In the future week or two you will see a sped up version of this video that is much shorter without the commentary. I haven't made two versions of videos in a long time, but am going to start doing it again as some people like the long videos and some like the short ones. It also gives every project two videos, which means more content in the long run.
Q: Who was in the video with you?
A: My wife often helps me with larger cleanups or projects like this one. On this job she was responsible for collecting all the hedge trimming debris and shuttling it back to the truck. She probably saved me an hour and a half of labor by helping me with that task.
Q: Why do you string trim like that?
A: One reason it looks weird is I am left handed, so hold the trimmer different than most. I also always trim from right to left so the clippings get thrown away from the bed.
Q: Why are you using such a small mower? You need a bigger one!
A: That mower is the only one I can block the chute.
Q: What kind of truck and trailer are you running?
A: I drive a 2021 Chevy 2500 Custom with a 7x14 Carry-On utility trailer with two foot mesh sides.
Q: Why are you using battery equipment?
A: While this equipment isn't commercial grade, it has the power I need for any job I tackle. I also have enough batteries to get me through a day, so there is no reason for me to keep running gas at this point (except for some specialty equipment like backpack blower, commercial pole saw, other things where there is no battery equivalent yet)
