Hi Folks,
My nephew Simon is back and we are exploring some new robots for the shop. Enjoy!

You don't need to wipe the whole system to get into a linux box. You need to add "single" to the kernel parameters in the bootloader to boot into single user mode, and then change the passwords. You can find the info online on how to do it. That way you can retain everything that's on the machine, but just clear the passwords. You can do something similar to windows machines to clear passwords without wiping the whole machine.

Wow! That's a heckuva find. I feel like I need to comb craigslist in California for stuff like this... We don't see kuka machines on the used market here in Colorado.

Very nice piece of kit you have there. PIAB likes their equipment alot, each EOAT probably would cost north of $1500 to replace. The vac generator (they call it an ejector) is right there, and fully configurable. They are coax generators so they are meant to work at low pressure. I am very familiar. The camera is probably vision for part tracking. Probably with encoder for tracking conveyance speed. Let me know if you have questions, let me know. I just got myself a used ar3 robot arm that I plan to use for molding. I’m still in the same “tinkering” phase with it but hope to get it producing by the end of the year. Can’t wait to see more updates on this project!

Hi from Africa....I also work on xyz machines....self built at home in my garage. Have not been lucky enough to play on a Robot arm yet. I wish I had a bright intern in my workshop :) - "to solve those software gremlins...I am also playing with live video manipulation homemade software at the moment - so much potential, and also software for custom svg and png image creation from images for my cnc machines - thanks for the videos - much appreciated.

Super Cool, you got a sophisticated robot and an equally sophisticated hacker/operator(Simon)👍👍. The stereo camera/lidar can be used as a CMM with realtime feedback. Definitely used for some kind of precise placement and nothing to do with recycling. I am tempted to suggest, trying to use one for face painting🤔, to start with. Most of these custom high end robotic systems are useless, without proper driver and software and operating manual. Look forward to seeing, what and all can be done with such a system working at full capability. Seems sky is the limit!❤👍

@@DragonflyEngineering Yes, I verywell understand. Once I had a concept of using servo controlled robotic arms(using microscribe 3d scanner arms, as a programming tool), with capacitive proximity sensors to do face painting for kids(somehow, seeing the lidar in action, triggered that memory🤔). Could also make an "Amazing Turk" like robotic chess player(without the need of a hiding grandmaster, that operates the pieces remotely). Any serious endeavor has the fruits of labor spill into other domains. Look forward to interesting problems, that can be solved using the high ac😂curacy positioning system. Due to the dynamic tracking and recognition of objects, could be useful for highly customizable product assembly.

Interesting that they didn't wipe the software from the machines. Seems a bit irregular. You're going to have a small army of mechanical 'employees'!

I wonder if the modules are ethercat rather than ethernet? (though ethercat doesn't use regular switches) Is the module from Beckoff?

Some things look to be eithercat, and there seems to be reg ethernet too. The IO is not Beckoff unfortunately

Hey that's scary - Kuka is a German company bought out by a Chinese company - no offence to the Chinese but by Jingo they are into everything if google are using Chinese robots its a little, really really interesting.
