New Rory & Mal

New Rory & Mal

2 жыл бұрын

Happy New Year from everyone over at New Rory & Mal. Now that the holidays are over and we’re all back at work and miserable again, lets get the year started off right!
Rory & Mal catch up with Jermaine Dupri at his legendary studio compound while in Atlanta. They sit down and start to discuss JD’s early journey into hip hop, starting with his breaking of the legendary duo Kriss Kross (19:30). He goes on to explain how he met the late Lisa “LeftEye” Lopes, and how he helped break the group that would become TLC (29:00) In the middle of his stories, JD gets an unexpected disturbing call from his protege Shad “Bow Wow” Moss, who insists on pulling up and joining the interview to get a few things off his chest (40:27). Bow Wow comes in and joins JD in telling the behind the scenes story of breaking his career, as well as elevating So So Def. JD (and of course Bow Wow himself) start giving Bow Wow his flowers for his career (1:06:20), and this leads into a discussion of what the blogs have against him that they won’t cover his current successes. This also activates JD’s urge to get his shit off, who doubles down on his challenge to Puff Daddy for a Verzuz, and explains why he feels underrated (1:48:18). They also touch on other stars JD has broke, their opinion on aging relevance in Hip-Hop (and basketball), + more!

I feel bad for JD trying to fit his whole story in a summary. It’s so wild and every step was a BIG step even if he didn’t know it at the time. Also the REASON why no one is writing about them is bc the blogs and article writers are FILLED with people that want ✨certain✨ things 💸 to get their attention. Either you get them into the parties, smooze them, get them near carpets, or guarantee high volume clicks or they won’t write about you. Edit to add: I’m part of the BTS fandom. If you are a fan of artists that need more acknowledgment or just not to be completely blanked out by main stream media then you HAVE to organize with the fandom and click/share/engage as a whole with articles mentioning that artist. And be prepared for articles to be badly researched, absolute lies, bitter and weird. Why? Because those writers do NOT want to write about your artist even if they are in demand. They ONLY write about them bc it’ll get them engagement. They hate it and will hate the artist in turn. But they’ll get written about to the general public. So Bow wow fans, JD supporters, I’m sure there are online forums full of their fans. Get together and then use the power as a digital consumer to counter act the status quo. Find a good writer in the fandom and have them write a fact driven Medium article and give that hella engagement. Find all written articles about them and share in your groups. Have them all read them. It can be done. Y’all just have to do it.

What they do that I LOVE is that they follow the story instead of trying to lead the story or bring the focus back to their statements and interrupt the whole flow. It’s a whole conversation. So much info can be laid out in settings like this. Such a shame that MANY other interviewers miss the point of how to get a good interview. Tbh, I think they should actually have a bbq and sit around afterwards just to chat with artists. Bc this whole convo sounds just like when people sit back and discuss things. Imo

I think Bow's personality is a result of growing up in the limelight. He's probably never gone to a regular school/job so all of his social interactions have been with other celebrities and people who want to be around celebrities hence the braggadocious attitude. He grew up in the era of showboating so its no surprise he talks the way he does. He retains friends so his personality must not be that bothersome.

I'm here because in the boredom of 2020 and the lockdown I ventured upon the Higher Learning podcast because I loved Van from TMZ. Van spoke about Rory, Mal and the podcast that shall not be named (Yes, a Harry Potter reference). That made me tune into the very first "New Rory and Mal". I've listened to every episode since then and enjoyed many a chuckle. However, on this night I'm listening to one of my favorites... Monica (The First Night) and I appreciate y'all for highlighting the last of my era of R&B (JD). Iron sharpens Iron.
