That little amount of time is what makes you truly creative today people have all of these expansion packs and all of these different drum kits, and all these Clips. See with the Sp 1200, you didn’t have all those things you truly had to learn to put together and create all of your parts with limited sampling time that’s what made you truly great and that sound just can’t be touched! 💯🤟🏽

The simplest way for you guys to do a test is simply sample the same sample on both machines and play them back. I noticed a big difference between just simple samples on my MPC 4000 that I brought over to the MPC X. BIIIIG difference bro. There is no life or body in the new MPCs

Great Stuff Poli, Just like my 1996 Akai Remix16, I sample from my Acid Pro 11 Suite set at 32k, 16bit frequency going into my mixer, then going into the Remix16 set at 32k sampling rate. BOOM❗Kicks hard, thick, warm, and phat sounds way deeper than any MPC. You made a marvelous choice in the Rossum SP1200. Make your own samples then make your own expansion packs to sequence on the MPC LIVE.

You should copy what's on the sp1200 SD card that you have and put it on the other SD card and put it in the MPC live 2 so you have the same drum program in both and then test them so we can actually hear the difference between the MPC live 2 and the SP1200. The SP1200 is a lot like the Boss Dr. Groove dr-202 from 1998 (If you can, get one of these and see what I mean)...when you put the roll effect on at it's highest setting, I believe it's 1/32 or 1/64 time signature, and slightly tap the kicks and snares, it gives it this other worldly grimy and punchy dynamic thump sound that I have not heard since, besides on the SP1200, and that was on a $300 dollar drum machine from 1998, but it sounds so similar, maybe even better to my ears. It's very much like when you described the silverware analogy. It sounds like you're hitting a cabinet in real life with a little bit of extra crunch, and it's a lovely sound. It hits you in the chest and makes you almost break your neck to it. I had a Boss Dr. Groove dr-202 almost 20 years ago, and I have not heard anyone use this trick that I found on that one unit. It basically doubles or triples the kick and snare sound, making it sound 3 times better. It's hard to describe. Like you said, you would have to hear it and experience it for yourself. You just can't get this sound on software. I have tried and tried and tried, and cannot find that particular dynamic thump, or like you said, when you close the drawer of silverware, you can hear something behind it that you can't hear on software drums and synths. It's just a thicker and fuller sound to my ears, and it always has been with hardware gear. That's why I love hardware gear so much. It's what I started out with, and it's what still does it for me, but I just don't have the money to buy this expensive gear right now. It's really a shame though, because if Akai would start making hardware synths and drums in their hardware units like the MPC One, I don't think anything would come close to it, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. They could change the entire music world if they did this...SBN RESONATE

Make your tracks in the mpc then resample inside the sp1200. My only concern is the 20 seconds of sample time. If you're just doing 8 bar loops and muting the tracks, you should be fine. But what if you want to do chord changes for verse, hook, and bridge?

I think this ongoing debate needs to stop. The live 2 is the best modern day all in one solution - picking out one perceived flaw out of around 50 groundbreaking innovations doesn’t quantify, It’s the modern day not 1992 so why not run it through a great pedal, outboard, or a plug-in and create any texture you want from the HUNDREDS available .. Sometimes I think we need to get on with it and be progressive more than looking backwards.

One of the best ways to get drums that smack hard is to sample straight from a turntable to the mixer and the mixer to the sp 1200 then speed up the drum parts at 45 rpm trust me the drums will hit hard the OG sp1200 only had 10 seconds of sample time so you had to get creative but each drum you made was like your own child you developed it tuned it and you knew how many kick drums and how many snares you had but that minimal sounds was perfect for finding loops and samples to drop your drums some of the greatest classics of hip are between the 1980 's and late 90's because they used the sp1200 to create that. 5:52 even that one thing of browsing endless trash sounds kills me, I pack it up and send it back at this point... and that isn't even addressing the horrific sound quality/lack of headroom in the new MPCs. Yes Akai have great software now, and controllers are great (I got the stu 2), but the standalones/flagshitz should sound 'good' like they used to pre 2003. Everyone used to have that inspiring sound (if they got an akai) and now it's gone and we all like flashing LEDs and browsing plugins on an MPC ? wtf. wth. Akai need to do RND into the 3k and bring that sound to the masses, but then the expansion market would be pointless ?????!!!! so I think they will stick with the expansion model.
