I had a blessing box I would drive 40 mins once a month to fill completely up. I put dog food, cat food, personal care items and a ton of food. If I had cases of drinks, I stacked the flats under the box and what I had extra after box was filled I put on door step of church because they were always there and they had a church pantry. I could drive off and circle back 20 mins later and they would have taken what was on steps into the pantry and had a cart taking what was in the box as well for the pantry INSIDE the church, once a month. I had a lady once ask me why I put animal food in the box, did I expect people to eat it!? I said no I would rather fluffy get that can of cat food than the can of tuna. The tuna was for the person and the cat food was for the pet because if they could not pay to feed themselves what makes you think they can buy pet food. They consider their pets family, I am trying to help the whole family not just the 2 leg ones. While this conversation is going a lady drove up that I had seen often. She looked at me and asked did I have any pet food. I told her yes ma'am, park by my car. I loaded her up with 2 bags of dog food she always looked for and then she hit the box for herself and family. After she said if I don't hit the box as soon as you drive away then we get nothing, they take it in and we can only get food once a month, I quit filling that particular box and told the lady there are 3 more I fill within 5 miles of here and where they were located. It made me angry. The food was for those who can't make it to church pantry ( one day a month during normal work hours like 10am-noon on a tues) or needed something to make it until payday etc. Not everyone in need is unemployed and can take off midweek to go to pantry. Just saying. I still donate, I have 5 boxes I fill but you change the rules, I change the route.

I truly dislike fake churches that seem so holy but yet so devise ! You keep doing all your beautiful blessings Dumpster Cat your heart is made of gold and yes ferr babies are family they have souls and feeling as we do. It is a shame,maybe they should put up another box or two just for pet food and the other for hygiene and needed items clothes Don't let it discourage you keep going you are a blessing!!!!

If you put the animal food in the box, there wouldn't b no room left for the food for the people. As you said, what about cleaning products, medicines??? I live in the UK and we don't have blessing boxes,we have food banks, but you are given a bag of food on certain days. As you said, people can't come out of work on a certain day to go to the church(the one you stopped going to). Look when you put all the decor in there for Easter,Christmas, and graduation. It all went,all the craft stuff,again all went. Whatever u put in there, it always goes,it shows that the people who are using it needs these items. I hope people stick up for themselves and leave notes saying that they like the fact they can pick a few stocking fillers up from the blessing box near Christmas, god that might have been all that those kids got. Those boxes are kept outside in the scalding hot summer heat. Medicine like Tylenol or even crayons might melt in there. But you can't keep medicine out in that. Unless those boxes are emptied every few days, I wouldn't take anything from there. Especially not tomato sauces or canned meats.

That is awful I truly think some churches put the boxes out just for a show but the truth of it is they really could care less. The extra stuff you put in there truly helps people out I mean there struggling enough for food so a tooth brush and maybe a toy for there kid is a plus. If they really understood the struggle they would know that.

As someone suggested perhaps ask the church if they, or you could put up 1 or 2 more boxes for the pet food and hygiene/ cleaning/ school items. I can understand that they may not want toys, clothing, and other things because it could quickly become a dumping site.

I thought blessing boxes had no demands. Any form of stuff is useful and a blessing!

Maybe need different donation boxes for pet food or toiletries. I know the blessing box where I’m at takes food only but they take the toiletries and pet food and give out into the community. So you may just reach out to that person and see how they can help. I did that with that blessing box place. Just a ideal.

Seems to me that particular blessing box people have too much time on their hands that could be put to much better use than dictating what kind of donations they will take. When I was a parent with a small child and we were in need, I was happy for anything we could get whether it was food, clothing, soap, etc. Obviously some people have never been in need and do not have any regard for others.

There is a lady who drives around stealing from all blessing boxes in her area and feeds stray cats with the food then throws everything else away she is disgusting person and believes the world owes her. She works full time recurves ssi of 2000 a month dss check over 2000 a month work is almost 2000 a month and still steals from needy people as she squanders her own for needless crap and alcohol for her jobless daughter

I am sorry. But maybe you can find another place to share your bounty. True is someone may have gotten I'll or sick in some way. I do not believe toys are a food nessessary. And dear there are other places to share the items you are upset about not being able to donate. Go there and support those. Your attitude is not Christian.
