Yes, we had it years ago, thought it was _Astyanax daguae_ - sometimes they are mixed in with _Nematobrycon lacortei_

It is difficult, because not many people keep these fish, but hopefully we will see the other two, and the other _Pseudochalcheus_ in the future.

Published by the amazing Javier Maldonado-Ocampo (who sadly died on an expedition to the Rio Vaupes) and others in 2012, Colombian University Press i think.

Really enjoy your videos. As a retired aquatic biologist, I enjoy seeing recently discovered fishes. My biggest concern is that many of these species are endemic to a few waterbodies. Over harvesting for the aquarium trade is a big problem. Only fishes which have been successfully bred should be made available to hobbyists.

Over-harvesting is not really the problem, the gold miners, dam builders and loggers destroy the habitats at a rapid rate. We won't have many of these fish in 15-20 years because the habitats will no longer exist. In the case of _Parastremma_ , no more than 50 fish have every been exported, and it will not be a popular fish. The emperor tetras have been harvested in the same areas for decades, just like the cardinals. In general wild caught fish are a sustainable resource, if you look at the alternatives available to the fishermen, the impact is really not bad.

@@gillianmiller9710The numerous environmental dangers those species face are exponentially bigger than export for fishkeeping. I agree that in select cases, it might actually be a problem - if the habitat is already protected but for some reason they still export lots of fish. But that's incrediby rare and almost always, the reality is that the endemic habitats we know are critically endangered by activities we are not able to stop. This at least gives us some sort of emergency backup if a species might be bred in captivity after it's gone extinct in the wild. Having a *sustainable* level of wild caught fish export at least provides some small level of incentive to poor farmers or native tribes to keep protecting the land instead of selling it to miners or industrial farmers. The area where we have actually seen significant damages to certain populations in the past is saltwater fishkeeping.
