I bought this about 2 months ago. It’s insanely good! Anything above about 17 for volume is so loud it’s crazy. The sound is seriously the best I’ve ever heard. Good Atmos tracks are so immersive

I have the Samsung Q950A in our family room and I find it a really good sound bar with Atmos. I have a full home theatre Atmos system in my other room with ceiling speakers etc, but the Samsung really holds it own. I was really quite amazed with the sound these sound bars can deliver these days.

I got the Q990B a month ago for approximately USD 720 and I couldn't be happier with it. For the price I think it's an absolute steal. It sounds absolutely impressive, it's so easy to use and has transformed both movie watching and music listening for us. Thanks for the review, absolutely top notch, as always. I know this is a year later , I just bought the Q990b on clearance and got it around 900 , it works amazing with my Samsung 65QN85C and it’s loud highly recommended

Ahh man I’m going to have to rewatch Top Gun: Maverick now. Not a bad thing at all. I saw it twice in the theaters, which is extremely rare for me. One of my favorite action movies of all time.

Coming back to this because it's still relevant. My last comment was 1 year ago. I had been eyeballing this system on Amazon at the "Discount price" of $1499 at the time while it retailed at close to $1700.... I lucked out that my employer had a partnership with Samsung and I was able to purchase it for around $950.... BEST DECISION EVER!!!! Andrew, your review was a definitive marker in my decision to pull the plug and do it. Even with savings as much as I got $1000 was still a lot but however I am glad I did. I still haven't found anything better from 2022 to 2024.

Picked up a q990b today and set it up. Damm it's good system fills my large open plan livingroom with quality sound for movies, music and games. From what I heard the q990c is not a massive upgrade to the q990b and plus now the price is right to get the q990b with the new model out. I got my one for a bargain. Really enjoying it 🔊

I really appreciate the q symphony from Samsung. This allows the voices and center channel to truly come from the screen itself. Which is a big deal to home theater enthusiasts. They say it’s the only way to enjoy shows and movies

Just exchanged the JBL 9.1 for the q990b and could not be happier. Such better sound, loss of bass is not that significant, dialogue on certain things is immeasurably better. Just having a customizable equalizer and being able to adjust individual channels makes the extra price worth it. I have a sony x90k TV and connection was seamless using earc. Great soundbar system.

I am using 990B since 1 month and trust me...... it's Mind Blowing Cinematic Experience be it Dolby Atmos or for that matter anything. Hta9 lacks vocal sound clarity because of the phantom channel. We all are more used to Centre channel for vocals and that is the MUST part in any sound system. Trust me this sound bar comes very close to Conventional full fledged Home Theater Set up with Seperate speakers.

I just ordered the Q990B because I got a killer deal on it and I think I have watched this video all the way through at least 4 times while I was deciding on the purchase and after purchasing. Should be here next week and I couldn't be more excited to watch Top Gun Maverick with it and hearing the planes flying over head or a movie like Dunkirk or 1917.

Gotta admit, I have been slightly tempted to upgrade from Q950A to Q990B for the larger (seemingly), more capable sub but I think I'll hold off now! Thanks guys! One thing I wish samsung allowed - let me us my older, hugely capable, optional subwoofer that I got for the MS750!!!

Ordered this one and returned. Sonos Beam Gen2 + 2x One as surrounds sounds much better and more reliable for music, movies and games. Despite the size (Samsung is huge) and subwoofer, upward firing speakers, there was no improvement during A/B testing with Atmos content (Apple TV, Apple Music Spatial Audio, Disney + etc) Would be great to finally see Sonos review here with surrounds (and probably a new Sub)

Regarding the Arc, I completely understand why you haven’t reviewed it and that it won’t be a possibility until there is a new one. And I respect that. It’s just a little bit disappointing to someone like me, as an ARC owner, not because I’m seeking validation but because I’m always looking to improve the sound where I can (a sound bar with wireless sats is the only option in this space for a few reasons). If another bar system was significantly better, I’d look to upgrade even though we are deep in the Sonos ecosystem. And the channel comparing the comparable bars to the Arc would be helpful. Still, I get it.

The felt cloth wrap on the 950a is a dust magnet at home. Upgrading to the 990b has been such a pleasant experience!

Bought the sound bar , paid a smidge below a grand and your review was one of the important factors that helped me decide , it’s powerful the sound is surprisingly rich and the surround is good . I am happy with it no buyers remorse whatsoever

I paired the Q990B with the S95B OLED. I think the built in speakers in the tv would be ideal for filling in the gap between the subwoofer and soundbar, as well as higher frequencies . Unfortunately, the Q-Symphony software seems really un optimized, relying far too much on the soundbar speakers and barely driving the tv speakers. If they gave us more customization over the Q-symphony pairing, this soundbar would be a great product, but as is, in some cases it’s not even an upgrade over the pretty good tv speakers.

Guess I was lucky paying 950$ for my Q960A 2 years ago. Totally happy with it and see no need for an upgrade in the near future.

Upgraded from Samsung N850 5.1.2 to Samsung HW-Q990B. So for me the difference is absolutely apparent. I go for Samsung mainly because their support is better than other brands here in Singapore.

Here’s the thing about the ARC. And Sonos updating its hardware. They don’t really do that. Sonos builds their stuff with firmware headroom in mind. Their bars go years without a hardware refresh (the playbar lasted for like 5 years). They just pushed a major update to the Arc a few months ago that wildly improved dialogue clarity. Totally understand not wanting to review a 2 year old soundbar in general but this is one where it’s actually gotten better with time. Sonos is about to update the rest of their audio products with Atmos in mind if rumors are to be believed (read the Verge’s Optimo 2 leak) so I suspect the Arc and Beam are about to be improved via other upgrades to the ecosystem. A Sonos One replacement (something in dire need of an upgrade) with a height driver would be an instant buy for many Arc/Beam owners.

Finally! been waiting for this review! Honestly, I ended up getting this system two months ago and I absolutely love it! I will add that I chose this over sony systems purely because you can’t beat the value at this price.

Please do the Samsung Q930b. It's a gem in the $1k price category and even rtings was hard pressed to recommend the Q990b price premium over the Q930b as they are so similar and the Q930b is a lot less expensive. It supposedly uses the same sub as last years Q950a but overall is a massive value at its performance level.

Based on your glowing comments on this soundbar (not to mention it taking 1st Place in almost every Soundbar category on that Montreal ratings website) I went ahead and made the plunge a few weeks ago. WOW!! Nirvana at last. Worth every penny. Movies are soooo immersive. Music comes to life. I am extremely happy with this soundbar, my third in as many years (and now my last). Set up was easy. No problems hooking it up to my SONY X950G TV. Ran the EQ. Turned on SpaceFit Sound. Never looked back. Listening to movies will never be the same. Thank you for the excellent recommendation. (PS: I just watched you B+O Beosound Theatre soundbar review and no, I am not going to drop 6 grand on that one). Keep up the great work !!!!

Hello...is this better than the HT-A9 for Dolby Atmos and overall 360 degree surround experience? I was planning to buy the HT-A9 but the lack of dedicated center keeps me on the fence. Samsung q990b seems to be the ideal choice and could be cheaper. Please note that I have an A80J (55 inch)

First things first. You guys are awesome. The people you have in your life are really lucky. I'm sure my wife and I would get along great with you two. Can't get more down to earth than you guys man. The ambeo soundbar I'm sure sounds great especially with a subwoofer but I wished that they'd have rear speaker hook up. We live in an end unit condo and our samsung soundbar q950a has been rock solid since day 1. Purchased in May 2021 with a Sony a80j tv. I bought better earc hdmi cables for it which fixed the minor issues I've had. I do want to upgrade to this 990b in time but not in a hurry to really. If you’re having rear speaker disconnection problem Just connect the q990b to a 5G wifi network (note) not a 2G network and change the 5G wifi frequency to channel 48 and you will be fine, this is the solution to the rear speaker disconnecting problem.

I feel like a have to apologise, I didn't realise Kristi was so well informed on the tech and involved in the channel, I thought she just got to benefit from having loads of cool gear turning up at the house! It was great to have her summary there at the end, it rounded out the review really well in my opinion.

We had a birthday party at our home and I took a couple of friends down to the basement and they couldn't believe how great that sound bar sounded. Don’t see why you are trying to knock Sonos for not responding to you. You should be loyal to the subscribers as they have made the channel and we want a Sonos Arc review as it’s one of the most popular surround bar options. Their sub mini may resemble a small trash can but has force canceling dual opposed drivers for an absolute inert sealed cabinet design. I don’t own any Sonos products but like most we want to see how it stacks up to what you’ve already reviewed for those of us about to pull the trigger on a premium surround bar option.

Got it for $860 at a festival discount in India, and LOVING it! Researched a lot, with Sony A7000 full setup as my top priority, but Q990B at less than half the price, was just a steal.

Got the q990b after checking you, digital trends and rtings. First soundbar over tv speakers and what an upgrade! Suprisingly price difference with Sony is a lot, in India sony ht-a9f is $2400 whereas Samsung is around $960. No competition. I don't get why Sony is so expensive here even with import tariffs. Good recommendation.

I bought my q950a through a retailer on ebay for 1000 pre tax and it was brand new and i love it. its not without its quirks but its far better than anything ive had before.

Ok, you have me down the rabbit hole, thanks for that. So now I'm considering a radical departure from my plan for my dedicated home theater room. Previously, I was planning on an Epson LS12000 projector on an 120" screen, Onkyo RZ50 and a 5.2.2 Heco speaker system. Our room is smaller 19' w x 16' D x 8.5' H... After watching this review along with your review on the Samsung 85" QN900B, now I'm thinking about rolling with that combo in the home theater. I already have the Q950A soundbar in a media room in another part of the house and it's amazing, but I can't really turn it up without blasting sound throughout the entire house. I can't help thinking that the Q990B would easily fill my theater room with an incredible 11.1.4 sound. Not to mention it would save over $1,625 in equipment cost and who knows how much in installation cost. I'm I crazy for for even considering this option? I'm looking for an incredible movie experience, not necessarily the best possible experience. My only real concern is the "85 Samsung vs. 120" with the Epson.

Fantastic review as always. Out of all my "go to" KZfaq audio reviewers, this channel has the most reviews on the sound bars. I get it, sound bars are not popular with in the Hi-Fi community, but sometimes they are a necessity, which leads me to my question: I am in the market for a soundbar plus sub, and I unfortunately don't have a way to use rear surrounds without getting the evil eye from my better half. It's a large room. How would the Samsung without the rears (900c I believe) compared to this model with the surrounds? Obviously you would not get as much of a surround effect, but does all the other key features and sound still hold true? Will I still get most of the way there compared to this system? The Samsung soundbars seems to be the all-around best for balanced sound in a large room according to reviews. Thanks

soo maybe there is something wrong with me, ive had several separate systems, most recently polk R600/matching center, rears, 2 Atmos Modules on the towers, and a 12 inch SVS Sub, and the Onkyo NR7100 ! I replaced with this soundbar to downsize, and not only does it get louder which seems impossible, but the immersion and sound effects all over the room are far superior, I like this bar better than that substantial separate system which also benefited from Dirac the only advantage to the big rig, was the deep bass from the SVS, but the Samsung is well tuned to hit hard in that "punch" range of 45-60 HZ.

Using the q990b in the main lounge with kids and it’s perfect, and a compromise I’m willing to make until they grow up and I can build a home theatre. Only downside for me is the plugs for the back speakers but that’s better right now than wires going across the room to an amp because of the kids. Loved the review - hope Kristi’s Grandma’s okay ❤

They need to fix HDMI eArc on the 990b. Constant disconnects and having to reset the hardware and unplug and plug it back in multiple times to get it to work for a few minutes. It also makes the 11.1ch surround useless since you need eArc for the throughput. HDMI Arc only supports 7.2 channels. I believe the 950 had similar eArc problems in the past that have been addressed with the recent bios update. I've gone thru 2 990b already. The first one would not even connect and the new one does but loses connection shortly after and is a pain to get working again and soon disconnects.

I have had the Sony HTA9 and the Samsung 990B ,and what i can tell you is this for immersion the HTA9 is better but unfortunately constant drop outs from speakers and poor dialogue sound and i always had to remap the 360 sound system , made me fall out of love with this .The 990B was more stable , no problems from day one and the sound seemed more natural than the HTA9 , and much better value for money. As for the ARC and the Klipsch 1200 both i have owned and these bars are not on par with the 990B and HTA9 full stop.As for LG dont bother

Thoughts on the Q930B/ZA 9.1.4ch? That pricing is a bit more attractive than the Q990B.

Got a lot of useful information on the Q990B I was starting to lean towards for our new home theater system. Was SO glad you mentioned in passing it had no trouble connecting with the LG Oled TV - as so far TV research has landed me at getting the LG C2 77" Oled. We're upgrading in a new home from a 10 year old 60" Vizio TV with a 14 year old Sony soundbar and sub, lol! Should be a giant step forwards! Also liked that you mentioned the Q990B was working for you in an open floor plan, also wasn't sure how the Atmos was going to deal with no walls, also a high vaulted ceiling. Thanks again!

Do I need to have Samsung TV only to pair with Q990B or it sync well with any other TV brands eg: Sony or LG TV?

Sound bars are excellent for easy setup over TV sound. I have heard many and this one and they all sound thin. While my ZVOX 580 does not do surround and such, it sounds much fuller than the Sony, Samsungs, and LG I have heard. PLUS the ZVOX has subout so I can connect my Martin Logan Depth-i Sub which outputs to other smaller subs placed around my family room. These brands will not use sub out because they want to lock you into their subs, the ONLY sound bar I would consider is the AMBIO series dues to having sub out.

I would not recommend this sound bar. I was inclined to buy mine based on this review, but there seems to be an issue on these model that disconnects the rear speakes and the sub every few secods and it's pretty annoying. Samsung seems to be doing nothing about it and a lot of people are reporting this. I wish I had known before I bought it.

Picked up the 990B and a Samsung QN90 QLED. This review has me extremely excited to set them up together when they arrive. Soundbar was 1400 CAD and the TV was 2100 CAD, so multiple hundreds saved from Boxing Week Sales.

I am still rocking my HW-N950 from almost 4 yeas ago, and I truly don't NEED a new one, but this one is so tempting. My dedicated theater room is pretty small (approx 11 x 17), and a soundbar absolutely fills the room with sound, but I am always looking for the next 'perfect' sound system.

Hi all, if you have a dedicated home theater room (medium sized), will the Samsung be a good option compared to a full mid-range single speaker setup? The idea of a single speaker 5.1.2 + av receiver is nice, but I’m afraid the sound stage will not be as vivid to the Samsung sound bar as it has 11 channels.

I have juat bought a Samsung 990B a few weeks ago for just £500 unboxed but not used. I thought it was to good to be true as in the U.K they are still RRP £900-1000GBP. I set it up and turned it on and can only say SA-CD worked out of the box the Sony 4k player was streaming HDMI into the soundbar and chucking out multi channel pcm to every speaker using adaptive sound and also set to standard. Which was noticeably different in object placement. But compared to my 5.1 tall speaker setup it was a breath of fresh air. Then i jumped on Maverick which was playing on UB450 4k Panny through the panny 55gz950 in Dolby Atmos as the logo was showing on the tv and soundbar confirmed it was receiving Dolby Atmos which i was lead to believe was not possible(also same with amazon firecube dolby atmos) due to it not being higher spec 2.1 hdmi. But it does and sounded crazy. I mean everything flying around your head and up your Butt... Only thing i think personally is that the rears do ned to be on stands or wall mounted at least 1.5 metres off the floor otherwise you can hear the rear tops before they bounce off the ceiling a little. Any thoughts???? Thanks Chris

Does it support Dolby Vision and 4k 120hz if I connect things to it, or will I have to connect everything to my TV? I'd rather be able to connect them to the sound bar so I have less cables running up the wall
