I have what I think is the older 1Tb extreme, mine is grey in color. I found out that it’s an M.2 SSD inside! On the same day I found out my laptop had a “secret” M.2 SSD slot! I popped out my crappy old disk drive and now I’m running the whole computer, OS and data on the guts of the SanDisk Extreme alone. Working well so far.. Any reason this is not optimal? I’d love some feedback, Thanks!

Great review!!! How do I know if I buy the new one or the old one? I had a sandisk and it didn’t work with the iphone only with a external powered hub and the powered lightning usb adapter. But I also have the experience, that ssds over 500gb requires more power and need and external power plug to run smoothly on an iphone.

Hello, I am from Chile, I want to buy the sandisk extreme portable v2, it is supposed to have the same transfer speed as the sandisk extreme pro v1, and it costs me cheaper than the latter. Should I really compare it? Or should I buy the sandisk extreme portable v1 550mb / s? I only have port 3.0 and not 3.1 and much less 3.2, if I only have 3.0, how much will the transfer speed be? Excuse so many questions, I await your answer and thank you.

Speed and reliability is extremely important because we just had a newborn and don't want to lose precious data. I also don't want the SSD to get too hot as I will editing videos straight off the drive. Same predicament here. Only thing that would be comparible to the internal storage would be either the Samsung X5 or the LaCie Rugged SSD Pro, both of which cost about the same as just buying the Mac Mini with the same amount of storage. I'm leaning towards the Sandisk Extreme Pro, as I don't need all the speed and it's nice to still be able to use the Thunderbolt power and not require any power brick.

Hey Lon! I have a question.. I'd like to know why after having installed a USB 3.2 Gen 2X2 Expansion Card onto my Desktop PC, the Sandisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2 is hitting speeds of 2000 MB/s on the CrystalDiskMark speed test, as it should, yet a real world test where I drop a large file into the SSD only peaks at 1000 MB/s? This is very odd. I hope you can help!

Wish there was a wireless version *with that carabiner clip hole.* Obviously it would be bulkier, I get that, a battery and router require room, but I think keeping a similar but thicker formfactor would be tottaly doable. I'd pay a premium for the wireless feature on one of these. (I know there are other portable wireless SSDs including ones by SanDisk... that's not what I'm wishing for. I know, first world problems.)

Just picked up a new IPad M1, thunderbolt 3, latest implementation, so I’m going with the faster 2x2 drive. Apple wanted an additional $200 to up the (soldered job) RAM to get an additional 256 MB. I have done this as well, but right now I am not sure if the speed is the same. And if the price I also not so differently. From Icy-box you have adapters for this SSD in the plastic case for 10-15€ and for Nvem for 40€,. Adding up the cost for the SSD is often the same like putting it into an enclosure. I bought the WD mypassport ssd, cause it’s more compact and durable, smaller and cheaper than my self-build version.

You are very thorough, great video! You should consider renaming your channel because the name reminds me of those random videos that just have a voice assistant reading out manufacturer specs. With a better channel name people would take your videos more seriously.
