Real simple: if the "company" doesn't take normal direct credit card payments don't do business with them. If they are legit they will.

I almost fell for this. but fortunately I saw this vid. about 2 weeks before I was on a site that wanted me to use PayPal and that rang a bell. Thanks Bud.

Yeah if you spend any amount of time buying things on the internet or buying anything here in the USA we don’t do a VAT or value added tax. Only in Europe they do that plus the fees are obviously a scam.

PayPal will not support any business that deals with firearms or supplies in Europe, so that is a red flag for anyone that thinks they are ordering from Europe.

Agreed. I think many of the victims of these scams are perhaps older and not as well acquainted with the day-to-day business on the internet. It's sad that people take advantage of folks like this for sure.

Yeah, the most I would do is place an order but I would never send money to them. And the only reason I place an order is because I want to test them to see if they actually have the product I ordered. I would ask them to send me a picture of the tins of percussion caps that I ordered and to give me a real physical address of their business. They go completely silent cause they know they're not running a legit business and they don't intend to ship anything.

I'm new to percussion revolvers and noticed this while searching for caps. All the reputable sites were out of stock and the sites that had them in stock were suspiciously cheap. A quick google search of the address associated with these "vendors" is a dead giveaway. Since then I was lucky enough to score a box of CCI #11 magnums through Midway.

Absolutely, an address search is the easiest way to check and verify. I've seen scammers use the 'address' of an empty corn field. It's nuts what they are willing to do.

Also will ask for Venmo or other account information. As a muzzleloading retailer I found one of these companies and they said there was no hazmat fee, and no minimum amount to get wholesale price. Our distributors have had CCI/Remington tell them they are not making any caps till 2025. Sorry friends.

If you are dumb enough to fall for these scams you deserve to be ripped off. NEVER buy things from scammers. Legit vendors can be checked out before you buy. Research who you buy from… if they rip you off pay them a visit to correct their non-virtuous ways.

From what I can tell there's an "online experience" factor that comes into play for the victims. They are either new to the sport, or new to the internet and get caught in these things. Couldn't agree more! Research is key!

I dont get it, I use Paypal buying online, been scamed several times and Paypal refunded my money with no issues, just one email saying I didn't receive my order and done, credit card Co would give me a hassle with way to much phone time......

As a side note, Americans should not pay VAT when purchasing from Europe either. VAT is part of the tax treaties and Americans are not subject to VAT. While purchasing items inside Europe save your receipts and apply for a VAT refund when you leave.

Exactly, Canada has a GST/VAT and Americans do not pay it or can get it reimbursed when shopping in Canada and bringing the stuff back. Stop at the Canadian duty free and get a form. Obviously, I am not suggesting buying firearm related goods in Canada!

I miss the guy we had in a muzzleloading club that sold us Goex at a reasonable price. I think he knew someone at a military installation that made bombs, in which they used black powder back at that time. Guess they ordered him some cases of 1 lb cans. Not sure just how it worked, but pretty sure it was legal, as one of his customers was the Chief of the State Police.

@@rangerjones5531 Black Powder has been used in large caliber artillery shells until very recently. It may still be in use, so far as I know

@@rangerjones5531 In the 1990s, Not all that long ago. Black powder is a good explosive. They also used powdered aluminum in the 90s, though I read they no longer do. Aluminum dust can be very explosive too. I hauled a load of it one time. It was in big carboys designed to be moved with forklifts. When I was getting loaded, I asked the guy what it was used for. He said a little was used in roof coatings and such, but most of it was used for bombs. The load went to East Camden, AR. There is a defense contractor there that made decoy flares, and other military ordinance. They have had people killed there on several occasions over the years, because of explosions.

I was at a factory second, I shot the gun. It shot fine until I tightened all the screws in it after that it had would not function because the machinist screwed the screws in so tight it indented into the brass frame. The company told me since I fired it they could not take it back, I now have another wall hanger and will not purchase another black powder gun from muzzleloaders 😡 I was scammed

Great information. I've just recently subscribed to ur channel and been thinking of switching to using blackhorn 209 powder but all the videos I've seen has me a little confused on how u measure ure charges of 209. Do u measure it by your volume powder measure or weigh the charges out on a grain scale. I'm planning on using it in my T/C omega that is rated up to 150 gen charge and would it be safe to use in that particular gun. I've been using triple seven pellets of 100 grn charge and power belt bullets but not really satisfied with the over all performance . Looking for something that can give better accuracy results

Great question, and one I'm still trying to answer myself. I hang out with a lot of competition shooters who all weigh their charges of BH209, but I read a lot online that BH209 should be measured by volume, so It's hard for me to say which is right or wrong. When it comes to your TC, I would do some reading on it's max charge of BH 209, sometimes they are a bit different than BP or the other substitutes. I know many modern muzzleloaders max out at 120 grains (by volume, or 84 grains by weight) of BH 209.

Speaking of muzzleloader supplies why is blackhorn so dang expensive now, yes I know things are a bit higher but for the most part smokeless powders havent doubled, I’ve seen blackhorn at almost triple the retail it was pre 2019

If I felt confident in initially placing an order, that first bogus $100 fee would have me canceling my order. Likely that money would already be gone for good, causing me to contact my bank or credit card holder to initiate fraud protections. To add potentially $1000 or more to an order is insanity. But obviously some will continue with bullshit like this and empty their accounts.

Customers just have to wise up and understand that not everything they see online is a legitimate business. I recently encountered one website where they have everything in stock but their physical address is in the middle of a street in a residential neighborhood. And I knew right then that their website is a scam. When I asked them where their actual business address is located and to send me a picture showing they have the tins of percussion caps that I ordered, they just go radio silent. And that's just proves that they're running a scam operation.

Ethan, I can't find real black powder anywhere. Track of the Wolf has a 25 lb minimum. Any recommendations regarding where to purchase lesser amounts? I can run pyrodex in my cap and ball guns but my Charleville says no no no.

Don’t ever pay for merchandise using Person to person or friends and family mode on any funds transfer apps, you have no dispute rights for those modes under network rules because you don’t get charged processing fees. If you or the merchant aren’t being charged for processing fees for an electric commerce sale you likely won’t have a way to get your money back if things go sideways.
