The first air gun was the Girandoni air rifle. It was designed by Italian inventor Bartolomeo Girandoni around 1779. The weapon was taken on the Lewis and Clark Expedition to explore and map the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. It took LOTS of pumping to have enough air charge to fire a pellet, but it didn't depend on gun powder. Today, the air gun appears to be just hitting its stride and your channel is proof of that. I read about a fellow who put a dab of petroleum jelly on the concavity at the base of the pellet. When he "fired" the gun -- a rifle -- you could see a puff of smoke and the muzzle velocity increased to about that of a conventional .22 rifle. Remembering the gas laws that you SHOULD have learned in your high school chemistry class, when the air entered the pellet chamber, its compression caused the chamber temperature to rise to the auto-ignition point of the petroleum jelly. In other words, it burned and gave an additional kick to the pellet velocity, distance and penetrating power. The only drawback was a oily residue, which required periodic cleaning. I took this concept to the next level. I bought some magician's flash paper. It is nitro cellulose. (Other forms include flash cotton and flash string). Putting a tiny piece in the base of the pellet and firing it with my single-shot, break-barrel air rifle gave impressive results. You could hear the report from firing, see the puff of smoke and feel slight recoil . I had no way of measuring the muzzle velocity, but it seemed to have impressive distance. I put the idea aside as a defense tool since a single-shot rifle wouldn't be much use in an emergency situation. Now, with your demonstration of the PCP pistol, it is time to resurrect the idea and test it. Actually, by disclosing the concept here, I am hoping that other enthusiasts will jump on the idea and try it themselves. Best, of course, would be an easily concealable pistol with perhaps 12-shot capacity. Since air pistols are exempt from fire arm regulations, no license or registrion is required for their purchase and use. Note that ONLY compressed air, compressed pure oxygen, or probably compressed nitrous oxide, will work. Since carbon dioxide won't support combustion, a conventional CO2 cartridge isn't going to allow this concept to be functional.

@orderofmagnitude-TPATP8 ай бұрын
5:13 im so so glad you mentioned this. Whilst we have guns in the uk; they are hard to get, and pistols aint allowed without a comically long barrels. Also as air guns gun we are only allowed 6 joules energy pistol and 12 for rifle type, or its a firearms license like a gun. So the last thing we got and looked for self defense (even though, technically we are not allowed too - unless "reasonable force" and i musnt have bought my weapon for self defence purposes- so i have to say i bought it as i enjoy target practice. ) - is the crossbow, and now crossbows have magazines, they are a good option over here with zero licensing or restrictions. I saw jorg sprave review that gun and I'd love one too, but im unsure of the air strength. Crossbows you can get through the mail, air guns and rifles you have to pick up at a firearms shop, no licensing, but they take your name and address.

really? my tiippmann a5 shoots the same cra as it, but mines full auto and has a 20 OUNCE tank.. whats byrna a 7 shot wonder? being those tiny co2 capsules... if you really need one for self defense know there only really affective is the less then 20 feet away, other then that there's not accurate. thus mine shoots upward of 16 balls a second... so I have a full auto for $260 full ready..... I find these "less lethal" words are like oop, because its ... Less... lethal we get to charge 3x the price,,,, same with the tps,,, its a $150 paintball pistol everyone thinks was developed as a defense gun LOL they charge about twice as much though... so go paintball its cheaper for the same thing,,, .68cal launcher :-)

On behalf of all of those people, especially older individuals like myself, less physical capable and/or inherently peaceful people like my daughter/mother/innocent children, thank you VERY MUCH for informing us of technology that could be used in defensive situations. Now the gun itself eh, was not thoroughly impressed with it honestly. It looks great and all but in my opinion lacks the punch that I would expect when you have to lug around a tank of compressed air or have a compressor with you wherever you take it. Yeah, guns more portable running off of CO2 were more efficient. And that's why you do what you so we don't go out and spend the money and have regrets afterwards, and I'm sure we all thank you for that. Great work again as always brother!

How long can you leave the co2 in the air gun? For personal defense I would assume you want it to be ready to go at all times
@AirgunAlley8 ай бұрын
Good question! On this gun you can keep the tank full of air (not CO2 hehe ;) as long as you want, because it doesn’t have a regulator. Now, time will tell if the gun will leak regardless, but it shouldn’t. Hope that helps!

Thanks for saying something important; in most countries having a firearm that is handy like a handgun is illegal or severely restricted. You may as well say there are no other options and that is 100% true. Anyone who argues they would rather have a real gun lives in a privileged world. Currently I have a Tippman pistol, two Umarex, and a Byrna like we just saw you get. They are not illegal to own, but you still cannot use one in open carry. It has to stay in a more discrete belt pouch. For us deprived people, an airgun IS part of a line of defense. The Viper shows what it can do to a coconut; that is more than enough to make a thief think twice. A shot to the head might kill. A Byrna 68 hard ball (we cant have pepper balls) to the face WILL break teeth and probably destroy an eyeball. All of which will stop most people. That is more than fine for us.

Wow never seen or heard of one of those before. I looked up the UK price with tax over £1150, that’s an expensive air pistol! I think I’m pleased I can’t afford one, a 27 joule pistol, that’s 16 ft/lbs in old money. I would end getting 3 years in jail in the UK with that illegal handgun. Pleased I’ve found your channel. Keep em coming! Richard

Hello my friend love the power and look but keeping it filled i believe will ruin seals and parts due to the pressure. If this one has that issue solved i would get one tomorrow.
@AirgunAlley7 ай бұрын
Hey there!! I just caught your comment at the right time!l… the issue you describe is an issue mainly for PCP guns that have a regulator. The regulator is the part that’s constantly under pressure - which eventually leads the gun to leak. This gun, like many others, has no regulator… so no leaking problem :)
@GLH12137 ай бұрын
Wow thanks good info will check this out. I bought the career 45 and career 50 caliber about 25 years ago and found out the hard way about leaving them pumped up in the closets. Of course air leaked out and now i just look at them because they do look good. Getting them repaired if possible would cost as much as buying new ones. Well my friends thanks again for your shows and advice that you give. 😀

my friend , You should try helium gas sometime. Helium is a very flexible gas and very difficult to compress, it does not liquefy in a container like CO2.

As someone who’s been in the airgun world for awhile now. I’ve learned that it doesn’t take much energy to stop someone. I’d prefer to stop someone, killing them would always be a last option to me. But honestly 15-20fpe could kill someone with proper shot placement.

Ey you left out something important: Can these be stored with air, or do the airtank need to be empty? That makes all the difference if this is useful, if you need to pump it up before using it, its fairly useless. Lots of us have 0 experience with PCP

That is a very good question and I should’ve mentioned it. Sometimes I forget the very basics :) Good news! @brandens76158 ай бұрын
Its about the next best tool for self defense besides a firearm. A crossbow or bow would be more lethal but you really only have one shot and very hard to hit a moving human sized target. But if you point this at a bad guy with the adrenaline and stress of self defense situation they won't even realize its w airgun. So yeah if you cant or dont want a firearm this is probably the next best option but dont fool yourself into think this is anymore safer than a firearm because its just as dangerous. A bullet is a bullet doesn't matter if its a explosion or air propelling it.
