If you wait long enough, you might run into issues with float rounding using this trick! Basically, it can move so slow that the game can't tell the difference between its successive positions; so while it's supposed to be moving, it actually stays still.

minecraft actually stores its positions and speeds as doubles, so it'll have to be moving extraordinarily slowly to hit that limit

@@tonygamer4310 I was thinking the same thing, but I checked and it's actually not unreasonably slow. A double has 52 mantissa bits so if you're at least 17 million blocks out (2^24) the unit in last place will be 1/2^28 of a block, which means the minimum speed is 1 block per 2^28 ticks which is about 155 days. Definitely slow but it does mean that a 1-year clock near the edge of the world has to cover more than 2 blocks

I know the joke is that DMV lines are long, but if you're smart about the days that you go, the wait is only how long it takes for them to load files. Getting my junior driver's license only took 15 minutes before I could start and updating to a regular driver's license took 10 minutes total.

Well it is not gonna be around for too long... they "fixed" it. The wind charge is gonna despawn after a while in the next snapshot (bug report: MC-268350)

It's important to note that it might not be fixed in a way that makes this impossible. The bug report just lists that the charge has no despawn conditions, and thusly the fix they settled on might not necessarily be a timer.

I wonder if you could use this mechanic to create a calendar in Minecraft? If you could make the timing consistent, you could count IRL minutes, hours, days, months and even years spent in a PART of the world, or chunk-load it and it would count the overall time spent in the world as a whole. Or even recreate the Clock of the Long Now before it's even finished IRL xd

It just reminds me of the slowest Redstone clock in a 5x5x1 room challenge back in 2017 by SethBling. The winner takes about 35 years, at the time, and since then updates didn't bring any new tech to increase that delay. UNTIL NOW!

What about a wind change accelerator? Can we keep them moving at relativistic speeds for long periods? Does anything interesting happen if they collide with things at those speeds?

the smallest double number in java is 4.9E-324 but in storage optimisation you may learn that not every number can be stored at this precision meaning that the next number may be bigger ie the clock moves faster. This will certainly never have a practical use but that is its limit of velocity

Can you toss more than 1 wind charge or would they collide with the player as you try to got more in there? Otherwise you could put a bunch of them in 1 spot to launch someone thousands of blocks

If wind charges don't collide with other wind charges maybe you could just have a dispenser throw a bunch from above and then just move the breeze out of the way when you're ready to fire them all?

Bounce it fast enough and you will have the fastest slowest clock in exsistance. The faster is bounces, the slower it becomes. As pr how you explained it, the mechanic could be a time paradox, as increased bouncing speeds up the slowing. Bouncing it fast enough would in theory break both the lightspeed limit while bouncing and also breaking the planck limit for moving ever slowly. Having either isnt possible (yet), having both simultanious is just Nope.

Small correction: At 5:06 you say motion is calculated by meters per second. It's actually meters (or blocks) per gametick.

They should add a block wind charges can bounce off of and another one (like he parmesan grade copper net block thing) where wind charges can go through and players can’t. Then we need another one where players can go through and wind charges can’t.

The best thing about this is not how slow these charges are but how precise they are. You could fine tune them down to nanosecond and I bet that there are going to be some tech minecrafters that will do just that. Maybe some new form of 0 tick farms will be discovered.

Isn’t this really useful for if you want to use multiple wind charges at the same time? You can stack limitless amounts of windcharges on a single spot, then move them later with a piston for the perfect player launcher.

Is there a list/resource for slowest non-RNG clocks in Minecraft? (Slower than the daylight cycle?) I'm trying to make a [redacted], & the most compact clock I could find (determined by time/block that was compatible with my build) was the daylight sensor. Ones that I can think of right now: Etho clock, etho dispenser variant, & the very compact el_craftoo all-or-nothing design.
