I’ve been on the 💪epic quest💪 of shopping for a couch for the last few weeks, and now I’m sharing how the whole process went down! Finding the perfect comfy couch for a small apartment is quite the task (to put it mildly, haha), so I thought I’d share my shopping tips and all the considerations that went into choosing the right couch for me and my small space. Hopefully my experience will help you the next time you’re on the hunt for a new sofa!

I have always loved the "look" of the Sven. My daughter has it in leather and It is comfy to sit and lounge on. However, what has always bothered me about the Sven is the cheap and lightweight filling or stuffing for the back cushions. They do not hold their shape and constantly!!! need fluffing after sitting against them. This was apparent in viewing the Sven uploaded photos from purchasers, and also with my daughter's leather Sven. If you cat likes lounging on the back cushion of your old sofa, it will love the squishy back cushions of the Sven, so your cushion fluffing will be never-ending. I don't know why Article fills their back cushions with with such lightweight and saggy/squishy materials. This will be a big change for you from the firmer back cushions on your old West Elm sofa. Something to think about so you still have time to cancel your order--if you don't like the messy look of saggy back cushions!

Def velvet. I'd be afraid of the leather ripping from my cat's claws! I have a pink suede-ish (microsuede?) couch and not only is it soft and easy to lint-roll but my cat hasn't clawed it at all. Velvet's gonna feel so nice! I hope you love it!

Oh man I've missed You so much. I would have warned You that I had that couch. It's gorgeous but the velvet eventually kicks out and you end up with bald spots. It's pretty but it gets the mange. :(

I have always had leather lounges, apart from the fact that they are easy to clean I think they look good.

Do you have any pets? If so how do they hold up? I’d love a leather type couch but I’m worried my dog would ruin it over time

The search for a new couch is such a challenge!!! I just spent the past 4 years looking for a new couch after moving into my current home, and ended up going through 2 very temporary couches (they were VERY budget friendly) trying out two different styles to see which one I like but also to try out the material. The first couch had terrible fabric both for texture and for ease of cleaning. The second one felt fine, but the material was also not easy to maintain. After doing some extensive research, I opted for a lovely all wood daybed frame and a semi-firm mattress with a 100% cotton mattress cover. I bought some extra throw pillows to add to what I already had in my living room to make it extra cozy. I LOVE my couch/daybed, it's incredibly comfortable, great for movie night with my teenager, and if I have a guest, I just take the mattress cover off and replace it with proper bed linens. I love in a 2 bedroom that's under 70sqft, so that played a huge part in my furniture decision making. I found my daybed on World Market's website, and their customer service was great for me so far. My old couch was a wonderful chocolate brown leather, but sadly, it was way too big for my current living room. I feel you and the love of a well constructed leather sofa.

It definitely pays to learn about upholstery fabrics and how they perform and ease of maintenance and the types of leather used for furniture as well. makes a huge different in making an educated purchase.And leather needs an extra step which is ting on a moisturizer on the leather every so often to keep it supple or it can crack, peel or discolor.

Velvet is far more durable than people think and comfortable as anything. I have a very good leather sofa and it caused me so much pain that i finally bought a velvet cover and got cushion covers made, all in velvet and took the leather seat covers off. It’s like a dream and my sciatica is gone!

I definitely would’ve gone with the Axel. I love the other couch as well but I had a quality leather sofa, the sustainability and longevity is unmatched. I put a throw blanket over it and snuggle up. It’s comfortable to me on bare skin as well if the room gets adequate air circulation and heat

I miss the leather couch I sold. It was an Italian leather one and it was so comfortable. Animal House Style recommends leather if you have pets. My dog’s nails never scratched it. It was in great condition after 12 years but I sold it because I wanted a sectional. I got a fabric one and I just miss that buttery leather. It was a lot more comfortable too.

Thank you for this video. I made the mistake of buying a leather love seat from Macy's and I looks beautiful but not very comfortable and leather in So. CA is terrible hot sticky skin on leather is a big no no. I didn't read all the reviews and now I have an issue I'm trying to resolve with Macy's. But velvet is soft and very comfortable comfortable. My 1st sofa was velvet and I loved it. Stay strong and positive.

Loved this! Very informative. I am also looking for a couch since moving to a new apartment. I’ve never bought myself a couch before, I’ve always had a second hand one from a family member or friend. I currently have a day bed I found on Facebook marketplace set up as a couch for the living room lol, but am looking for a sectional just like you! I also have 2 cats so I have the same thoughts on type of fabric/cleaning maintenance levels. I’m going to write up my own pros and cons list while I search. I have a similar thought process as you but I like that you list it out to narrow your options down. Thanks for this video! (Well, all your videos are amazing and inspiring so thanks for your channel! :))

I would have gone with the Sven as well. My cats like to scratch leather but NOT velvet, so it would be a no-brainer for me. I also don't like to stick to leather!

Velvet is especially good for cats because they don't like the feel of it under their paws as their claws get stuck, leather on the other hand , they love the feel and can ruin it with their claws. Plus velvet is easy to take the hair off it.

Looking forward to the couch arrival in August and your comments. My ultimate concern is comfort and quality inside and outside which you can't know without sitting on the couch for at least a good week. You did not mention if you could return it if not satisfied.
