I’ve got one on the way. I pray the lock stick gods are kind to me. 🙏

Just got mine an hour ago and I’m shocked. $654 for the worst lock stick I’ve ever witnessed on a knife! I have a 2nd one that I preorder on the way from knifecenter but from what I’m hearing I assume they’re all like this. Spyderco has some answering to do. My spydiechef lock bar is the exact opposite of the Paysan, PERFECTION!

I think the problem is not with lock geometry but with the thinness of the titanium frame in particular around the pivot. I believe the entire pivot is flexing in the frame as the blade seats against the stop pin when open, allowing the lock bar to seat deeper along the lock face than its supposed to and wedging itself tightly as the titanium frame returns to its unflexed position. The only way to correct the issue is to stiffen the entire frame around the pivot area or perhaps modify the lock bar or its steel insert to compensate for the flex. I have several Spyderco titanium frame lock knives and none exhibit lock stick. But none have the very thin titanium frame around the pivot like the paysan either.

Ive been big into knives for a while from 2016 till now and I used to dwell on all of these issues too, I’d think, “how is it I spent this much on a knife and there’s one tiny issue with it?! How dare them!” Well there is more going on with production and QC than you’d expect, and it’s a design that’s been licensed to Spyderco that doesn’t quite fit their wheelhouse so there’s that. To be honest that lock stick shouldn’t be a big deal, you have a knife that Spyderco should have never produced anyway. You’re seeing the edge of quality they’re capable of. Most of their knives have issues and no one says anything became their fairly cheap and have pretty basic design which are easy to execute and are tried and true. Consider it a prototype. You know how much someone would be willing to pay for a prototype from another rebuttable knife maker with its flaws and all? You can’t call yourself a true Spyderco fan if you can’t expect their minor flaws.

Tyler, I’d agree if this wasn’t their “CQI”version, and wasn’t their 2nd Rassenti collab with lock issues. It is not some engineering and manufacturing challenge to make a frame lock with proper engagement. ZT, Kizer, and WE do it all day long. The tang on this is closer to a half pipe than a ramp for the lock at to engage. That’s a bush league manufacturing “oops”. If we were talking about detent strength, that’s entirely different (detent is a compounded result of several components and factors). I’d expect a $200 knife to get lock engagement right… and they do! Regardless, we’re saying the same overall thing: don’t spend this kind of money and expect something acceptable from Spyderco.

There's lots of expensive knives that have lock stick unfortunately. Some are alot more expensive then the paysan..

May i ask what the orange Spyderco is?

If you’re talking about the one he opened the box with it’s a paramilitary 2 Wharncliffe version.

Spyderco is the king of using a steel insert in lieu of proper lock geometry. Edit: The only Spyderco I have with a steel insert that has truly great lock geometry is the Large Lionspy... I also think you're misunderstanding the Ferrari quote. Ferraris are an extremely "boring" and plain choice when it comes to supercars. I believe Sal prefers Lotus, as most car people should.

Good points except one. Lotus? Anyone who's anyone knows Aston Martin and Porsche are the ONLY proper choices for a wealthy and discerning super car owner.

Received a gen 1 Paysan 4 months ago, finally worked out the lock stick. Just as it was perfect, the stop pin has started backing out and now won't sit flush... fml 🤦

I’ve had $1400 knives with lock stick, relax my guy, and just roll with it. Never hold a company to your personal standards, you will always find something to be upset about.

Dunno why the CQI versions come new with lockstick like that. I bought a V1 paysan off of ebay with a lynch clip installed for ~550ish. It came barely used with a mirror edge. Everything about it is perfect. No lockstick, detent is lighter, but fine for a knife with a massive blade. People shouldn't have complained about the V1 paysan. Because it clearly has less issues than the CQI which has problems right outta the box. And I've seen numerous CQIs like this.

I have stopped posting on that forum several years ago because of all the fanboy jock riding. The members there immediately view any critical post as a personal insult and will come out with teeth gnashing in defense of the brand.

Just got mine 😢. Mine has more lock stick than yours and I've also been waiting for 4 yrs! Spyderco has always been my favorite and is 90 percent of my collection but getting really pissed about their cqi team! Not the first lockstick I've received but by far the worst!! UNACCEPTABLE Spyderco!!!!
