@@USConnexion Underpowered? Absolutely true. It can't hold candle to ROG Ally, Legion Go, GPD, or Ayaneo. For god's sake, it still use RDNA 2, TWICE generation difference. It became great because of linux and steam, period. Linux for console-like experience, and steam for their software support. Do you think SD owner love their device because of it's specs?

Even though its not one of the first intel powered handhelds its definitely one of the first "main stream" ones. Im hoping we can get optimized drivers. I really want intel to succeed since more competition is always better but i always say to be cautious. Im curious to see the pricing and how the updates will be. This year will definitely be the year of handhelds for sure.

32gb (10-12 really rn on the Ally etc is not enough) IS NEEDED on these devices. Part of the problem with these handhelds AAA performance comes down to the ram speeds and the amount on them. 16gb is not enough especially when it’s shared as vram (hence only having 8-10gb usable). Take for instance the new avatar. This game uses 12gb of vram right now, streaming in games (streaming as in the worlds and textures etc) are only going to go up, indies etc sure but to run actually any game without hitching you will need more ram. I’m glad they are doing 32gb a I’d say 24gb is becoming the minimum very quickly, especially with how game companies aren’t even bothering to optimise before release. (Look at any game today, the only time optimisation is a thing is if people are into it THEN they’ll optimise it). Being an intel chip I’m worried about the support it’s going to have going forward and if it will be able to utilise FSR well. Im looking forward to this handheld and seeing what it’s capable of, ik it won’t be anything amazing like a pc but I’m actually thinking of getting rid of my 4090 system to go mobile (no I won’t be using it as a mobile gaming device more like a 100w on car battery kind of deal - tbh you shouldn’t be looking at battery life when buying these mini PCs after all they all last what 1-2 hours, you might as well set it up on a power source at that rate. If you need the power on the go who cares buy a 80-100w battery pack problem solved.

The ultra GPU outperforms RDNA3 with more than 30W power. On the lower end power such as less than 20W it is not as good as RDNA3. For handheld mode, the 7840U chip may still be a better choice.

I thought ram and vram would make a difference but it doesn’t really. I have 64 gig ram on my win mini and 16 gig vram, but aside from an egpu u can’t utilize it. U can crank up to ultra and be fine but you’ll be at like 15 fps in most games

@jeanfrancoisjulien8890 you would have to assign vram allotment in bios otherwise you won't see a difference. Steam deck has 1gb of vram stock, you can bump it up to 4gb in the bios, but that takes away an additional 3gb from total RAM. With higher RAM you have more head room to assign VRAM which will help performance in games that need the VRAM. big open world games like mine craft, 7 day to die, etc etc should benefit from a bump in RAM and VRAM. Not to mention multi tasking, benefits from RAM, keeping windows open for alt tab during games eats up RAM.

Intel has terrible gpu drivers. I doubt they'll be able to fix it for this device anytime soon.

Steamdeck was never killed by anyone. If you run a game it can runs well, it remains the BEST handled experience without doubts. You can think to other devices only if you need windows or the handled is your only gaming device.

Intel on apple computers ran way too hot. Hopefully they fixed that issue. If this just overheats it doesn’t matter how powerful the handheld is. It will just kill the lifespan of the handheld.

115w max power with a 50w battery. Sounds like a bad time. No track pad and having xbox lay out sticks is yuck on a handheld. Screen looks small too. Think this well be too late and others will come out with their 2nd gens soon enough. Time well tell, knowing msi it'll cost an arm and leg

@@3cs0r I got good news and bad news, I got the core skull n co for dock. Bad news is that the core drive gets super hot and it does everything a steam deck does just full screen and no graphics improvements(unlike nintendo switch). Good news is that you need to get the MClassic and connect it to the dock which will improve image pixels which is wayyy better plus it increases FPS slightly, but it’s stuck at 4k either 30 or 60 fps you can’t do the sweet spot which is 40 FPS. Overall it’s like a ps4/pc (with the items above) not a ps5/pc or high end pc.

Steam Deck is the not most powerful spec'd device but the most efficient in hardware and software optimization. The rest of the competition seems to be overcompensating because they run Windows 11.

lol nothing is going to be a steam deck killer. What people don’t realise is it’s not power and graphics so much that will sell better, it’s all going to come down to which is the most user friendly, a pick up and play and that is steam deck all the way. Yes on these vids you have tech geeks salivating over more tech but they will be niche, valve is in for the long haul, optimisations, and steam deck 2 will learn and surpass all of them. I don’t have one yet but after every video I have seen I dont have the time to be tinkering for an hour in settings and folders just to play a game. The majority of people want this, more power is nice but not at the cost of ease of use as at the end of the day we just want to pick up and play, that’s it.

@@nathanjuan6042 It’s like comparing android(windows)and apple(steam). As someone who uses both I prefer steam only because of how easy, and great layout it is. Windows can run powerful games with tweaks while steam has games ready to go(great for traveling).

@@lilstewy5091 Not really that hard. Ally is also ready to go at the same time it has 3 months free xbox game pass which is more of a ready to go you don't need to buy games right of the bat. As a matter of fact I've downloaded tons of free games already never have a problem with any tweaks. Actually it depends on people also like for you its easier to use apple while for me its harder to use apple because there is no navigation bar which is what I'm used to same with windows, linux, or macOS its harder for me to use Mac because everything is the opposite of windows same on linux I'm more used to wimdows.

@@nathanjuan6042 the OS actually helps the handheld to save power, WindowsOS is not made for handhelds unlike what Valve did for the SteamOS. the OLED version combined with the optimized OS + Optimized CPU + solid temp while gaming works together to be as efficient as possible, hence the extra hour battery life compared to the competition.

Its good to have competition but to say its a steam deck killer is just clickbait, every handheld pales in comparsion to the steam deck and that will remain so for a very long time.
