The nuts probably backed off, but the 63 tbird i bought had the castle nuts on the inner tie rods threaded up to the hole for the cotter pin and that's where they stopped. they never seated the tie rods so they would just move up and down.🤣 Systematically going over every nut and bolt now. Those strut rods look sweet. Wish i could get something similar for my bird.

I noticed that you can see the teeth on your flywheel or flex plate. Get the inspection cover back in place before road debris kicks up in there and does some damage. Nice looking 66.

Nice ride! I *just* started restoring a 65 survivor this week (and this video is helping me locate stuff). Without any rubber bushings on the strut mount, do you have any concerns about possible damage to the mounting brace? I know there's a few spots on these cars where it's not even recommended to use poly over rubber because it can cause cracking from being too stiff.

I'm not worried about the mounts as mine is just a street driver. My tire would rub when backing up and or breaking sometime as the bushings weren't holding up and they looked brand new, so I went with these strut rods to eliminate that issue. I kept the old ones and could probably swap out the bushings for better quality/type as well. I'm very new to this so I have been going thru a learning curve as well.

It looks to me like the strut rods you removed were already adjustable. There seems to be plenty of threads on both sides of the bushings for adjustability. You don’t need much adjustability if the upper arms are shimmed properly. Those new rods have full articulation but no rubber bushings for road bump cushion. Trade-offs, I guess. So, how do the new ones ride?

Yeah, they were adjustable apparently. I really like these new ones and the ride has been totally fine without the bushings. However, not sure the trade off is worth the cost, but I'm committed now and do like them.

You dont need road bump cushion there, back when these were built what else was there cost effective to use , that stabilised your lower control arm and that also offerred some articulation, so they used a rubber bushing. Your cushioning is your suspension/shocks, not in the strut. The originals under braking move alot and the bushing flexes, so not the greatest in handling. These new ones offer stability in your lower control arm keeping your geometry intact under loading.

The “grease fitting location” is an actual fitting. Uses a pointed needle at end of grease gun. Don’t remove!

Any update on this application?

Sorry for the late reply. These work great with no issues as I was having some rubbing from my tire on the wheel well especially when backing up and turning as the rubber bushings were expanding and compressing. This solved all issues and it drives great on the street. They are expensive, however, so I think a stock one would be just fine with a standard wheel/tire setup.

thank you for the video, I have one question, what is that lip for (by the end with 2 bolts)? Shouldn't that be turned upside down in order to hold the control arm better?

That is actually used for the steering stop. Hope that helps....

That’s correct. It takes the place of the stock bolt on. Great video.
