Thank you, Seth! A great overview! Also, it's worth noting that Tamron generally also allows users to tune certain lens parameters via their data interfaces, which I think is neat - it's not just for firmware updates.

Nice seeing Tamron supporting Z mount...seems like fully now because people always thought this lens was never getting released on it. Just need the newer 70-180...glad the 35-150 is on here and we need the 50-400. Time for Sigma to start supporting it with full frame glass. I'm sure their 85 1.4DN would sell well.

Wow that’s really shocked me. I really thought that Nikon worked with tamron to produce their Nikon version so never expected a tamron version as well. I’ve always loved the tamron lenses and had the collection for my f mount and was always amazed by what I got out of them. Also had stabilised primes which was really helpful with my dslrs.

No way! Definitely a new goal set for this lens. I'm still new to Z mount and only really have Viltrox Primes. Affording the Nikon Z lenses is kinda hard, so more third party autofocus options are definitely welcomed, especially zooms!

Depends what you shoot, but look out for a used 24-120. Superb. And the 50/1.8 is honestly a spectacular lens.

Dang I’m more excited about this than Nikons 28-400 release! (Sorry Nikon). It was bittersweet when Nikon released the 28-75, as Tamron had already released the G2 version on Sony. Glad I finally get to have this option on Z mount!!

The Nikon version is a g1 design with stm motors. This looks like the g2 design, tamron through and through.

You can set the motors to linear via the Tamron utility something you cannot yet do on the Nikon version.

Yes, there would be a difference. The "Nikkor Z 28-75/2.8" (non S-lens) was a refurbished first generation of the one Tamron came out with for Sony E & L mounts. Nikon just slapped a Z-mount on it & branded it under them. This is a G2 version -- 2nd generation. It's a newer/updated version of the lens.

I think Nikon's is the G1, the older version of Tamron 28-75 This one is g2, much improved one but will see the actual difference as reviews pop up😄

Right now at the time of this video, the regular price for the Nikon is $200 more, but it is on sale for the same price. Spec wise they are pretty much the same so I would go with the Nikon version. The only drawback to the Tamron is the exposed USB C port, however you can get a dummy plug to cover it.

No, technically not. The Nikkor (non S lens) Z 28-75/2.8 is a refurbished first generation version from Tamron that Nikon took & remounted with Z-mount & branded. This new one is a "G2" (2nd generation). Whatever "issues" the first generation had is fixed/updated, etc. It's most likely sharper, faster focusing, etc.
