They were emboldened to do this because they figured the courts would not prosecute them, and the courts have established a precedent to let most people off the hook easy unless the crime is this cut-and-dry egregious. I feel like the prosecution could put up a really good case for first degree murder here, even if they probably wont because it can be difficult to prove. I mean, you can hear in the video of them saying “Hit him” , like that is a premeditated move. The fact that they recorded and posted a video of their own crime could be a very strong basis that they went into that car with the intention to kill someone for a video. I doubt they will be convicted of first degree, but damn if I don’t wish they would be

It's sad. I grew up the same way, on computers and phones right at that transitional phase between playing outside as a kid and hopping on an rpg after school, ive never had a thought to go out and run someone over, or break and enter, or start stealing stuff en masse from my school. As things are progressing, soon we might have a "serial killer challenge" where you are supposed to become a serial killer while documenting everything via TikTok. And then it turns out it was the FBI who started it so they could find more serial killers and get nicer numbers for how effective they are. To be serious, though, I don't understand what goes on in someones head that makes them want to try a hit and run challenge seriously, but I guess I will find out when I watch the rest of the video (only in the beginning because I'm brilliant enough to post before I watch).
