Well that is kind of the point, if you only go 20-25 mph through the tunnels instead of about 40, it's going to be a slow service and they don't stop TOO harshly. They come into a station at about 35-40 mph, then they gradualy slow down to about 25 mph and then they start braking harder at the end of the platform.

Hey awesome game play! "Rheo" means Rheostatic Breaking. There are several different variations of breaking. Rheostatic is also known as regenerative breaking meaning that it is using the forward circular momentum in the traction motors to break itself. So, in turn, the faster you are going, the more Regenerative or Dynamic breaking you will happen. If you're familiar with PCC cars, it's the same deal. Also just as an operating heads up, when you use the Controller for Power, you NEVER want to stay in shunt position for too long. This causes Extreme stress to the resistor grids and much heat is created along with excess electricity is wasted. Once you get around 5-8 mph, go right into Series. Series is pretty much taking all the voltage that's coming in, and having it split on the truck. For example, if the input is 600, Each motor gets 300. The reason why you'd want to stay in either full series or full parallel is because here, you do not burn up any electricity with resistors. Thus making these two position the "free running" points. Although it doesn't matter in a game like this, it is good skill. Also, when you decide to decrease from full series or full parallel, you really should go all the way back to off and release position. This cuts out what is called the line switch (basically a massive knife switch under the car. When you move the controller back one notch, the line switch pops (shuts off) but the power handle still is arcing and the points are still engaged. It's REALLY Bad for the LRV and I know its just a game, but I really enjoyed watching! Hope you can use this knowledge!

Whistle/horn blowing on the tube is generally only in certain places, usually when you set off from the depot you sound the whistle, when you exit the tunnel into an open area (during daylight hours) just in case there are track workers about, when moving around the depot and approaching the boards that depot workers walk around the depot on, when passing a 'whistle' board in above ground open sections during daylight hours (noise restrictions apply at night) or to get the attention of station staff or the signal box (not that there are many of the small signalboxes left on the tube, they're mostly big power boxes now in control rooms)

The front of the train always states the final stop and with lines like the met line that fork to multiple destinations it is absolutely the first thing you check that it matches the platform info when the train comes into the station. Nothing more annoying than getting on the wrong train on the way home!

There is a brilliant video by Geoff Marshall (his channel name too) where he interviewed a developer for the game and had a go on this line. It was really interesting. The stations on zone 1 are very close together, particularly on older lines like the Bakerloo. If you ever use it in real life, never change trains at Elephant and Castle. The walk between lines seems to go on for ever. The last time I did it, I had a toddler with me.

Whistle blowing is typically done when entering a work zone, restricted speed zone (like if rail repairs are being done), when entering or moving in the yard, if you’re stopped in the tunnel and workers are present and your have to let them know you’re about to move then you would also honk. But most importantly the horn is used to honk at kids when they wave at you from bridges. 🙂 I drove the subway in Toronto for a few years.

@maxedison8259
@maxedison8259 3 жыл бұрын
Wrighty_Boyy, I was a driver on the Central & Northern lines, so we were taught about train equipment. You cannot slam the brakes on in 'service mode' (as in when the train is in passenger service.) because trains are fitted with 'retarders', a device, or devices, fitted which release the brakes to a certain lower level when they sense the train is being braked to harshly. The Bakerloo line trains are fitted with old style retarders so, if you listen to a train as it stops normally, there isn't much sound as it comes to a halt. However, a fast approach and late braking will result in the retarders kicking in and releasing a set amount of air from the brake cylinders, so allowing the train to come to a smoother stop. Without the retarders, standing passengers will fall over. So, the only time a train will brake hard to that point, is in the 'Emergency Position', because that is the only time you would need to brake in that way. In the cab, it always seems fast on the approach, but you have to be in control of the train at all times, which means killing the main momentum of the train around the halfway point of the platform, and bringing speed down from around 20mph and reducing it to 0 on the stopping mark. Like I said, it might seem fast in the cab, but it's down to perception. The speed and braking is controlled by the driver, and some drivers may take a few seconds more to stop a train, but it all sits within the timetable. However, automatic train operation, where the braking control is undertaken by on board equipment which interacts with the line signalling, is a very different beast. Because the approach is not under your control, as a Train Operator, it does seem faster, but you still have to be ready to hit the Emergency plunger if the situation arises. All the best.

@maxedison8259

If you visited Central London, and you were only in tube tunnels, you won't hear any whistles unless the tube tunnel ends. This is where the whistle is sounded, as the train is now entering an open section of track where maintenance workers may be present. (Use of a whistle in a tunnel is limited to certain procedures which are rarely required.)
@csci
@csci 3 жыл бұрын
I'm only familiar with NA protocol not Euro but by MTA guidelines, a long horn is sounded on approach to a platform, when there is work equipment on or near the rails one long horn and one short sound, followed by a sequence of two short signals is required and by grade crossings a long horn is required.
@tomcorwine3091
@tomcorwine3091 3 жыл бұрын
From what I remember in the MTA, two long horns is to alert the workers a train is coming. The train operator gives two short horns when they see the acknowledging signal from the flagman.

There’s been a lot of hype about this release , and most like myself only bought it primarily for the Bakerloo line route . However , I’ve been solely playing Train simulator 2020 which I think in my own opinion is better , TSW you cannot add or explore additional rolling stock , and I found a surprising likeness to world of subways in terms of graphics and gameplay. This I think is a game , where as TS2020 is a proper simulator in terms of driving and endless routes and free roam . Again this is just my point . Wished I’d saved my money to be honest .

I'm glad to see tsw finally do something like this... But environmentally, World of Subways volume 3 did it better (and they had the voice announcements). What tsw really needs to do is maximize interactivity without restriction, and produce longer routes. Example is the recent Oakville line. The day they do Go Transit will guarantee a new purchase for me. As far as worth it is concerned, like flight simulation, it gets expensive but worth it for those that fully enjoy the experience.

I think maybe the lights arent in the tunnels because of safety reasons, maybe for visibility. However, the NYC subway has lights in the tunnels, so maybe that isnt it. Love your TSW gameplay!!!! Another thing, in the future make sure to turn on the passenger saloon lights.

Tunnel lights have one main function split into two parts, but they also have one indication. At the end of Passenger train traffic, they are usually switched on by Station Staff, although the option to remotely switch them is also a possibility. So, function 1 is to illuminate tunnel sections for Track Patrol teams and Maintenance Workers. Function 2 is to illuminate the tunnels should trains need to be evacuated between stations. Indication Only: When the lights are off, most commonly during passenger traffic, and they suddenly illuminate, it indicates the power to the trains in that particular section of track has been switched off. (This is a separate automatic function, not a manual one.)
