An area of interest is quickly developing in the South China Sea, off the coast of Hainan island. This large tropical disturbance is expected to bring storm force winds to large parts of the coast, stretching eastwards to the Hong Kong area. The storm is expected to peak with winds of around 50-60 miles per hour (80-100kph) before landfall on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Typhoon Ewiniar is rapidly degrading and is likely to become a remnant low shortly. Due to wind lag, the storm still probably contains storm force winds, and could continue to do so as it moves through southeastern Japan and the Izu islands. As Ewiniar turns extratropical, strengthening could happen later on, mostly after passing Japan.
In the South Indian Ocean, an area of interest could still briefly become a tropical cyclone as conditions are marginally favourable, but any development is expected to be short lived.
