Of course is going to be dropped soon, but when I tried to install it on my steam deck, I got a problem with it. If you tried to install it on Steam Deck natively, it will eventually said something went wrong. When I tried Ubuntu 23.10 with legacy installer instead, I was able to install it just fine.

@@stefanalecu9532 For me Ubuntu 24.04 is the release that made full-time Wayland not only usable for me but noticeably better than X11. Battery life, responsiveness, aesthetic feel, and even gaming are much better than they've ever been. This is indeed a sea change in Linux desktop graphics.

I'm learning web developement and Ubuntu just makes my workflow so much faster than Windows. I mostly use multiple virtual desktops/workspaces and switching between them is just so easy. On Windows, switching workspaces is a nightmare. *Ubuntu just works* ❤

@@yensteel True Windows 10 has two more tiling options but I don't use it that often. They have come to the Mantic and hopefully will be there in Noble Numbat as well. Kind of wish if GNOME had better drag and drop support tho. It just doesn't work as expected

Hmm! Currently on the latest MX 23 distro, and have to say that thus far I really like it. But quite like the look of this Ubuntu release, it will no doubt end up on one of my machines for a trial run! Take care, and keep up the good work.

I'm curious regarding Snaps and updates on an Nvidia systems. With Flatpak I've encountered issues where seemingly random programs will not launch after Flatpak updates. I'm not certain if Flatpak has it's own Nvidia driver support or I'm just getting driver updates on Debian that often. The two events seem to be related. Has anyone encountered similar or other issues with Snaps?

Been using it for weeks on a RPi4 8gb. Chose it for its multi language support (English &Thai) and very happy with the ease of connecting Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Easy to configure. Pity that games support is very limited through the App Center. Hope it updates to the release version through Software Updater so reinstall will not be needed. Happy with it

Quick question. Is it always better to make a clean install? I just updated mint from 19.3 to 21.3 but i only formatted the / partition, i used the same /home partition and i noticed a slowdown since then

Delete ~/.cache first, and log out / log in. upgrading the software but keeping old cache may lead to performance issues.

One Question on Debian 12.5: - I install the Debian 12 Minimal install - I then install docker - I created two nginx container, with ports 8080 and 8081 respectively. - I then make sure that I can access each container site, plus ping the Debian host. - Now I install UFW, allow port 22/tcp, then enable it. - I can still ping the Debian host & also access the two nginx site { WHY ??? } My question: How can I block everything and only allow access to ports that I need, like 22, 8080, 8081/tcp?

Ubuntu isn't bad and Snaps aren't bad. I actually think they are somewhat better than flatpaks (usable as server and desktop applications). I just think the way they are pushing snaps isnt the best way. No other distro is using it so it makes it quit difficult to fully adopt (bigger companies seem to prefer over flatpak). Nonetheless Ubuntu is and probably will always be solid.

I agree one hundred percent. If only they were welcoming to Flatpak, by for instance making it possible to install them from the App Center. Apart from that, Ubuntu still reigns.

Snaps have been a total shitshow for me since their inception and every time I try them the server component somehow manages to shit itself installing updates preventing further installs or uninstalls. No such problems with flatpak. Each to their own I guess.

I have bit of an issue with Snaps. First of is that there was Flat already, they could've just go for it and contribute that project. Let alone forcing apps into snaps. It now seems to be better, but when was it that they bundled Firefox as snap and it took ages for first time to even start. Not to mention that they specifically advertized it to be essentially safest solution, which has already been shown not to be true.

I don't like the look of GDM. Some time ago Ubuntu had lightDM and it was much nicer. GDM login screen is so gloomy, dark, boring... Sadly Ubuntu also does not offer LVM encrypting like Debian does, which is a big disadvantage.

I had Gnome on top of I guess Ubuntu ~22. it wasn't scaling well like kubuntu's KDE. QT apps did not scale and remained small at 100% scale meanwhile native snaps using gtk respected scaling and flatpaks ignored it. it was great and stable but my second monitor wasn't 24 inch 1080p so it was unusable without scaling. Meanwhile on fedora 38 it all woked based on scale slider in settings. no .profile edits were needed. is this improved?

Can someone help me fix kdenlive? I am using fedora and I just did a sudo dnf install kdenlive and it detects my intel iGPU. And after trying to use intel vaapi h264,h265 and all other encoders, it still shows the same issue. My render speed is being capped at 25 fps. How do I fix this? Also, there is no encoder speed option for gpu encoders. My encoders are pretty powerful. Can easily encode h264 at 1080p at 66 fps (avg). Encoders on kdenlive is hardly being used. (sudo intel_gpu_top).

I will stay on Endeavour OS. I have a solid sistem and I am pretty comfy with Arch. It runs all smoth like butter, and fast like a thunder. My friends with windows are also surprise when come tu my house and use my pc.

I installed it yesterday?...and now my beloved Huawei MateBook Pro?..is bricked....it shows the splash screen....it goes to the login...I enter my password and hit "Enter"?...then the screen goes black and does nothing else!..looks like I'll be removing Ubuntu and switching to something like Mint or ZorinOS....

I tried this latest ubuntu 24.04 on my Ryzen 5600, RX 6600, NVME SSD machine and maan it was so slow. this distro feels so bloated. snaps are mess too.

As much as I love flutter UI I am scared that modernising UI invokes OVER-simplification. All we have to do is see how many clicks it takes to get to a particular setting in Windows 10+/MacOS. I hope Canonical don't go down this path but so far so good.

Ubuntu is solid but Gnome is not my favorite. I left main Ubuntu for good when they went they dropped Unity, I’ve never like Gnome after they dropped v2 and gave us 3. I’ll still rock Kubuntu though.

@@rishirajsaikia1323 Exactly, the problem w/ Kubuntu is it releases LTS in sync with Ubuntu rather than with KDE which is what I would prefer. I ran KDE Neon for a while but I don’t like rolling release distros. Still though, I’m willing to wait. KDE is a beautiful DE.

Ubuntu is based on Debian. Why would you wait for Canonical to update Ubuntu, when you get updates faster on Debian? And Ubuntu has lot of bloat.

Because not every single person on the planet is an advanced computer expert to know how to configure everything from scratch. Only recently, after THIRTY YEARS OF EXISTENCE, Debian noticed that regular people buy computers with parts that need drives not available in open source, just to mention ONE single aspect.

who develops the gnome interface? it's just awful. Why can't the trash bin be removed? It’s just not clear where it came from for the basket to be on the desktop? it's not cultural. Do they also put a trash can on the table at home? This is for pigs only. they never went as far as minimalism in the interface. an adult needs a thoughtful, logical interface, and not a bunch of icons and shortcuts, so huge that it all looks like the phone that my old grandmother has, who has poor eyesight, and therefore they create a special phone for them with huge buttons.. Ubutntu is similar. to such a phone.

@@raianmr2843 guys, what are you talking about? I tried to make the gnome's desktop more minimalistic by removing the top panel to expand the work area. To do this I had to install a bunch of plugins. Guys, think about it, in order to delete something I need to install a lot of different crap. Why would I pollute the system if the developers could just not add it to the gnome interface. whoever wants different decorations can install it himself, but why make a system similar to an Indian bus? but you are right about one thing, you shouldn’t expect such an understanding from people who sleep in shoes, that a trash can has no place on the desktop, that this is bad manners.

This is not true. In fact, it's getting better with each release and it's also fixing a ton of other issues upstream that will benefit everyone in the end.
