I've been using this New UI in WebStorm for some time now, and my advice is to just try it for a week - it feels cleaner and nicer, and once you figure out where everything has moved, you stop thinking about it. And the new themes are really nice, the dark theme is noticeably less orange than the previous one (you can still use the old one if you like that more, AFAIR). Going between WebStorm and Android Studio (before this update), Android Studio felt so old-fashioned... P.S. enable Compact Mode if present, AFAIK, Compact Mode should be the default

The new UI looks beautiful! There's a bug with custom items icons in the new toolbar but I'm waiting for the next patch! 😊

If anyone is hearing this out, the only reason that I'm holding back from using this new UI is that it does not have the support for having multi line tabs, and it's awful because of that. It makes no sense to keep scrolling your tabs to find them, or memorize the name of each and every file that you have or will work on, because sometimes you are not the one's who created those files and directories, especially when working with legacy codebases.

There’s an option for showing editor tabs in multiple rows in Settings > Editor > General > Editor Tabs…

It's ironic how it's made to be more simple. However since I bad been using the old version since 2018. Using the new one feels more complex, because of the layout 😅. I like it though. Will take time to get used to of course.

I like so much that u decide to drop all my font and color settings when applying new theme, thanks you so much! Edit: Likely i expect this and had a backup.. u should at least show confirmation dialog to "apply new settings" since i expected to see "whats new" guide when i clicked on it and not "undeniable applying the stuff" without confirmation

AndroidStudio is basically an Android coding add-on on top of Jetbrains IntelliJ IDE

why icons in main toolbar right are all white, whilte in settings they have colour accents? It is easier to identify the icon if it's in different color.

I think you can find a better solution to gradle operations, there could be up-to-date libraries for this, some dependencies are still not even shared in android resources, you should improve in this regard.

The new ui is nice, it needs to get used to it, I have been using it for a while, but it is not optimised, the old ui was more stable and faster, I hope it will improve over time.

Little known fact: old ui can be uncluttered as much as you want, up to just the editor being visible. Then use keyboard shortcuts to access everything else when you need it

Hm, switched back most of my IntelliJ IDEs. The new UI is different but, in my opinion, not better. My main concern is the change in the toolbar. The new "toolbar" is now part of the titlebar. Way harder to handle and to configure.

The New UI is opt in for at least the next four Studio releases. So you have lots of time to learn it. 😅

Pretty sure all these curiously similarly worded positive replies are from Google employees, or generated. Seems like an unnecessary change; busywork to put on someone's performance review goals, like many of the AS changes in recent years. We'd rather you fixed difficult to resolve and long-lived bugs, than easy-to-implement but effectively useless re-skins.

Could you elaborate? The schemes used in the video are the new default Light and Dark ones.

@@c5inco For eg. at 0:43 the "onCreate" and "setContent" font color is golden-ish. But in my system its in a blue color. I am using Android Studio Iguana on Windows 11.

Nah, it's definitely better. I've been using both IntelliJ for Desktop apps with Compose and Android Studio for Android apps and my eyes just rest on the new design. It's way cleaner and more intuitive.

Same
