Well, what a week it has been, as we were invited to the launch event for the new Subaru Crosstrek.
So here we are, ready to take you on an exhilarating off-road journey, putting this rugged crossover to the test in its natural habitat - the great outdoors!
The Subaru Crosstrek sports a rugged yet stylish design that's tailor-made for off-road adventures. Now, onto the fun stuff - how does it perform off the beaten path? We took the Crosstrek through some challenging terrain, including muddy trails, rocky paths, and steep inclines. Just ordered a new Crosstrek being a previous Outback owner. Great review by the way. I'd watched a few reviews before I test drove one, all harping on about how under powered they were. I found it to be exactly what i expected, enough power for my needs, a real feeling of safety and rugged build quality. It's not the fastest car in its class but horses for courses. Planet autos other review for this car driving on the road is spot on and sums it up really well. Well done.

I wish Subaru would give the U.K. the same versions and power trains as elsewhere such as a 2.5L with the Sport, Limited, Wilderness versions. I have never heard of a company the brings out a newer version but with reduced power. The Crosstrek now goes from 152bhp to 136 bhp. If there was a 2.5 Sport available I would have one tomorrow. Even a 2.0L with a turbo would be perfect. The power of XV was quite poorer at 152 bhp but dropping it to 136 bhp is baffling. Please Subaru give us more choice.

A lot of manufacturers are - due to regulations, it’s not as easy as it once was.

My driving lessons were never like that. Looks fun. Useful if local roads deteriorate further.

No they were slightly more road based however I do remember being told he’d teach me some rally techniques… and here we are, yes some roads are more assault courses, thank you Stephen.

Hi Thanks for the video, No off-roaring for me, I hope any purchaser sees this video first, and reads all the comments if you do like this SUB, hope they give you some info on how to drive in these conditions. Regards welshman 2081

This needs the 2.4litre turbo boxer engine - this Crosstrek is basically the shorter version of the newest Outback model and even that in Europe, with its naturally aspirated 2.5l is gutless. I know it’s all about regulations and emissions (allegedly) but Uk and Europe get the worst engines. We had. 2021 Gen 6 Outback and whilst it has a lot going for it - it’s large, comfortable, practical, spacious - the engine in the end with the CVT was just tiresome - never felt like it had enough power of oomph when you needed it. The Subaru 2.0 mild hybrids are much worse so I would not consider this new Crosstrek, especially when you consider how much it costs.

That was the challenge with CVT the e variant is noticeably better, yes the UK is emissions 100% - electric is being pushed to an astounding level. We miss the WRX

@@PlanetautoUKwhen we test drove the Outback we also checked out the Forester with the 2.0 e-boxer - it felt so sluggish in comparison. Such an odd combination for these sorts of cars - couldn’t fault its capabilities but for every day driving there’s so much better out there unless rugged driving is your only priority which for most would rarely be true. We went to Ssangyong/KGM in the end and whilst their Rexton is old-school rugged I find it perkier and more pleasant to drive most of the time. The soon to be released AWD version of the Torres looks promising - hope you guys get to give it a go.

@MarthaMansbridge that’s diesel and big petrol with no cvt for you, I found the Crosstrek pretty in the right mode, quick enough and a art to be able to get the power down and keep it progressive. It’s full EV from now on in anyway or that’s the plan. We have both Electric and ICE Torres in July 😀 thank you for the chat Martha
