Hey Hans. Just a little message from the UK. I discovered your channel recently and I have to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. I like to do what you do but in the mountains of Wales. I enjoy your opinions on the gear you use just as much as the way you present, your editing and, I think mostly, your personality. Please keep doing what you are doing. It is a real pleasure!

I appreciated a lot your channel since the xmid hacks. THank you so much for the tarp tips. It was my main frustation with this tent. Not sure i would bring it for a long trek , but now i know it's possible. Regards from france. (same rain jacket and rain pants mont bell, same gloves ;) O i tried the ultrapod but finally i prefer to use Cullmann Carvao 816TC carbon, because it's better for me at high altitude where there is no tree

@@hanskirk-hiking9697 I think it would be there is quite alot of X-Mid people, I think I will buy this 1 Durston pole so I can also use it on my other Big Agnes Spur tent for my family of 3, so we can cook there underneath or relax in shade when very sunny. But then I am wondering how you tie a tarp guy rope or wrap or whatever to that pole since it quite straight if you know what I mean hmmm Ive got a 2x tarps/groundsheets from Aliexpres 160G(210x150cm) & 310g (210x300cm) so can use them for that setup also just need to check or experiment how its done with the tent outside. Awesome idea anyway when not crazy windy here in Scotland haha

@hanskirk-hiking9697
@hanskirk-hiking9697 2 ай бұрын

Great gear Hans...i have a lot of the same stuff and layer up in a similar way, the only difference is i use Helly Hanson leggings and i use a Helly Hansen lift top on to of my senchi in camp which works really well and adds little weight and i only use the Montbell Plasma from Spring to autumn in the UK and switch for a warmer down in winter. I bought the Rab Mythic Ultra this winter which packs a lot of warmth for its weight and it would suit Scandinavian conditions really well too. I haven't been able to get hold of the Senchi leggings in 90 in my size but still trying, do you find they fit true to size ?

Hello Alan.... some great gear you have - must be needed for inclement UK weather ha ha - nice to hear that you also discovered Senchi Designs - the leggings I have got in size medium, I am 175 cm, and they are little to smal - but then I saved some grams compered to size large - ha ha.

awesome to see your full clothing system, I have like 70% of the exact same items :). it's nice to see a realistic list for rough Scandinavian conditions represented on youtube. and totally agree about buying new gear, it's often not necessary but gets me excited about going out and trying new things in my setup. currently it's the Duomid which I look forward to using in Greenland this summer. where in Denmark do you hike?

Hi Vlad.... I guss you must have some clothes from Montbell, welcome to the Montbell club, there's not many of us, in Scandinavia. Awesome with a hike in Greenland, that's my dream - and Duomid is an excellent choice. I hike in Grib Skov, in North Zealand, 45 minutes drive from Copenhagen, the closest "wilderness" area in my hood. Thanks for your message and what clothes do you own from Montbell ?

I too, have gone on an expensive weight reduction journey in the last year. I have an Ultra-TNT tarp that is 170g, Hyperlite Dyneema 35L backpack that is 650g. Zpacks Plex Solo tent which is 382g. Zpacks' 132cm carbon breakdown pole weighs 80g, of which the Plex Solo requires one pole. That's the highlights.

Have you checked out Bergans Lightline Vapor pants at around 230 grams? Also, fun fact: we have the same name. I hear nowadays that people prefer to go with Topo shoes instead of Altra. Have you done some research into the most weight efficient smart phone, or different electronics setup where you dont use a phone at all? Phones seem to be getting heavier and heavier nowadays, but some of them have really buff battery capacity and would be a pretty smart hiking phone. I am using an old smartphone and save maybe 100 grams from it. Hiking in airplane mode, of course. I think there are a lot of traps of falling into systematic thinking where there are more efficient ways of doing it if you think "outside the box". Phones that are marketed as having high battery capacity are not doing so in terms of the actual electricity they are using, and so the total weight goes up. This is just one of the examples. Another example that may be relevant is the amount of layers you are using. I am not saying I have a better solution, but there may be some optimalizations there if you can find gear that serve more than one purpose and so am able to cut the total pack weight from it.

Don’t know the Bergans pant, I will check them out. I actually got this iPhone 15 hoping that I could skip 2 kg camera equipment ha ha but the video quality isn’t that great on the iPhone 📱 Maybe iPhone SE is one of the lightest you can get. The clothes show in the video is for wintertime, and I will not bring all of it for every trip - the clothes from Senchi Designs is so lightweight that it’s hard not to bring. I am a huge fan of wool, but it’s heavy and you can wear it for days without it is smelling.

Nice bits of kit :) The Ultrapod 3 claims to have a weight limit of 10 pounds (4.5kg). I have been considering both of these as lightweight tripod options for a mirrorless system, especially with the strap for potentially mounting to trees with a light 24mm. From your experience with the Ultrapod 2, would you think either of these would be strong enough for use with a mirrorless + 70-200 weighing a combined 1.45kg, mounted to the lens not the camera. (Both for ground use and for mounting with the strap, although I assume it would only work for ground use)?
