Corporate greed at its finest. The Gran Turismo series has always been a grind fest at times but unlike older GT games, the amount grinding in GT7 is WAY TOO excessive and is only implemented as an attempt to pressure players to buy MTX. The backlash is very deserving.

Yesterday I saw a comment that explains it very well. "The point of racing games is to be able to drive cars that you could never drive in real life. If they want to make the cars in game as hard to get as in real life, then this game is completely pointless."

They need to change quite a lot -Increase payout -Get rid of always online requirement -Get rid of invitation -Get rid of roulette exclusive items like engine swaps -Make used car list separate for each players and/or make it refresh quicker -Make grid start default w/ (optional) qualification And how about something that's been with GT ever since the first game? -Reintroduce series/cup/tournament with car rewards -Let people sell cars One thing that I _Love_ about GT is entering a series/cup/tournament and finding out what car I won. It feels so sweet getting rewarded with cars, that's a massive incentive for me to do everything I don't even look at the prize money. Buy cars, upgrade cars, win cars, sell cars

I think the difference with early GT's was that you only needed to grind if you wanted an expensive car in advance of natural game progression - if you played the game 'normally' (terrible starter car and worked your way up to the fastest through steady car rewards/purchases/championships), you ended up having all the top cars in the end through very little grinding, and ended up being all about trying to get 100% as money ended up being pretty much meaningless late game. The biggest issue I'm seeing with this is with the prices of the cars in the first place - being 'real world' prices is completely pointless in a game such as this, as it's all about having a car to win, not about the prestige surrounding them like you get in Forza Horizon games. The prize amounts are far higher than in early GT's, but what you can buy with that money is basically nothing, whereas in earlier GT's 'expensive' generally meant 'fast' so you got your money back easily once you'd bought it through better races. The 'grind' if you wanted to unlock an expensive car as quickly as possible was therefore incredibly rewarding in the end, unlike in this game where the reward is.......having the car untouched in your garage....?

When you see an obvious cash grab game with from someone like ea or square of Ubisoft, you just roll your eyes and move on. It genuinely hurts when you see a game like this sink to these levels. You can tell there is a wonderful game but to get to the content you have to spend the equivalent of weeks if not months of the same boring shit, or get a second job to pay for the “micro”transactions. I could buy a ps5 and a copy of gt7 with the cost of buying the McClaren and Porsche with real money. Here’s to hoping they figure that out before the game is dead in the water in a few weeks…

Gran Turismo 7 went from masterpiece to almost complete garbage real quick like, you could get most of the overpriced cars for cheap in GT Sport and don't need to think too much about grinding there

Triple A racing games are also in such a sad state. It is just funny how the small sim racing studios do so much better and have way more passion than these big racing studios. I guess it goes to show that being big means you are under completely unrealistic monetary demands.

The charme of gran turismo is to drive all these amazing cars that you could never afford in real life. It was always grindy in these games but it was fun because there were so many different events to chose from and you got loads of cars from licences , daily challenges and tournaments. Now they have taken every single aspect of that fun out and bundled it with a online-only model. this is the most shameless money grab i have seen in a long time

I was going to get the PS5 just for GT7 but the always online thing was a big no for me...I have both GT3 and 4 with my good old PS2 memory card and whenever I want i can just put them back on and they would be 100% working, you can't say the same fot GT7. I don't want to grind just so then they can shut it all down (or limit it's gameplay) a few years down the line when the game isn't profitable

Gran Turismo 7 reminds me of what happened to NBA 2K's career mode after they added VC. It got way too grindy to level up your character to the point I would never play a full season. The progression is not based around keeping you interested in the game it's based on keeping you frustrated to encourage you to pay money to experience the game.

I've been thinking about buying gt7 ever since it released because I was actually excited to play the game from watching gameplay of it. at the time, I thought it was a solid racing game, perhaps the best we would get in a long time. But tbh, once I went down the rabbit hole and noticed glaring issues such as the game using online DRM and the event payouts getting a nerf, it's killed any desire I had to even play the game. To be quite frank, I think it's absolutely ridiculous that the game is always online, meaning you'd have to be connected to the internet to access the game and to play the SINGLE PLAYER. So if the servers go down (like we saw the past few days with the game becoming virtually unplayable for 30 hours with NO FUCKING COMMUNICATION from the devs, not even giving their players compensation for the downtime, which I think is unacceptable) you're fucked, and you cannot play the game until the servers are fixed. Why should I have to wait to play the single player for the game I spent $70 on? If that incident didn't perfectly illustrate the issue with online DRM, I'm not sure what does. The nerfed payouts are another one of the things that turned me off, and I know damn well I'm not the only one. They're practically forcing people to buy mtx to be able to unlock that favorite car of yours and drive it. That is unless you're willing to grind 90 hours of playtime to save up for it. It's retarded, and it's very similar to the crew 2's mobile game-esque economy, where you had to grind hours and hours of playtime to unlock the cars you wanted. People get bored out of their minds grinding for hours on end, and they eventually become discouraged to further progress the game. I'm all for a game with a long progression system to keep people playing, but what Polyphony is doing (similar to what other racing game devs are doing: PG Games, Codemasters, etc.) that is not it. All that does is put people off. It's unfortunate, and I get the feeling their decision for that was purely based on corporate greed. If I was one of the people who bought a scalped ps5 because they were so impatient to wait to play the best version of gt7, I'd be pissed, and rightfully so. I think it's a slap in the face to the players because they're having to pay more money to be able to enjoy all the cool supercars and race cars, because of how bad the grinding has gotten. It's honestly a shame too, because gt7 has stunning visuals and seems to play well, like any other gt game. Just the publishers are greedy retards who thought always-online and an excruciatingly tedious grind was good for their game. Until the devs and the publishers can get their shit together and fix these issues, I just won't be buying the game. So yeah, sorry for the little rant, just thought I'd say my piece on the matter.

It’s very heartbreaking that this is the state of most racing games being released nowadays. I was so hyped and thought that HotWheels Unleashed would be a new revival in terms of the arcade racing genre and HotWheels games as a whole(Beat That, Stunt Track Challenge, World Race), so I bought the $100 version with both of the Volume Passes. The passes consist of mostly sponsored cars and barely any actual HotWheels original models, the battle pass is absolute garbage since it’s more sponsored cars, the loot boxes are the progression to get more cars, and the economy is very similar to that of this new Gran Turismo title where it ends up being an endless grind for days on end to get the car you want. Videogames back then allowed the player to obtain everything if you put the work into it. By reducing the prize money for events and increasing car prices at the same time, the grind becomes way too long and tedious to even care about the game anymore, like The Crew 2 and GTA Online. After Cyberpunk opened my eyes, I’ve been playing older games on the Wii, Xbox 360, GameCube, and the PS2. If you buy a $100 game like HotWheels Unleashed, why would you be willing to spend any more on something that looks like a mobile game? There are people who afk in most online races since the payouts are horrible. Can we travel back in time when videogames were actually complete and lootboxes/microtransactions ceased to exist? 😞

In addition to the microtransactions I really wish the always online requirement was dropped. With the older GT games (pre GT Sport) you didn't have to be connected to some master server to play the game. It's sad because there's a great game underneath all the controversy right now.

GT6 was the last GT title I bought. Then I saw how Sport was kinda an in-between sequel and knew 7 would come out - but now I'm like what was the point in waiting with all this bs going on in GT7. Might as well get gt sport if things don't change!

Well, videogame company has their own tricks like release the game and got positive review by gaming journalist. After that, update the game and add microtransactions in it.

I feel bad for Kaz and his development team they put their heart an soul into making the game only to be ruined by Sonys meddling corporate greed. If they would’ve made the game F2P then fine I wouldn’t been as mad about this situation.

I mean the slower progression for sense of ownership is a valid argument UNTIL, until you introduce micro-transactions to magically make it faster. At that point you have no right to use that argument anymore. It does in my opinion however stand if I compare Test Drive Unlimited and Forza Horizon 4. In FH4 I had so many duplicate and crap cars flowing in through wheelspins that I actually had to go and delete cars from the garage because I hit the garage limit and couldn't get or buy any more cars. And another thing what annoys me is that they actually do cut content from previous games and then release it as either paid DLC later on or just as "oh look how much we listen. We added all the cars you asked from the last game which should have been here to begin with." Forza does that too and that's why I haven't touched FH5 because the content was insulting which I got for the 100€ Gold Edition pre-order.

A huge problem as well is that the grind is so incredibly boring. GT games were always grindy (not this much), but to make matters worse there is only a few events that pay well so not only is the grind really long it's super repetitive as you're basically just driving the same track in the same type of car over and over again.

What's even worse is that when people dislike videos that Polyphony Digital, nobody will know since dislikes are not shown anymore

Last game i'm ever pre ordering, should've learned my lesson after Cyberpunk but I got swept up in the nostalgia and hype. Luckily managed to get a refund, and I hope enough other people have sought one out because these sorts of business practices can't be encouraged. Maybe in a year it'll be a very different game, I sure hope so because from a technical standpoint I love the game, but once again greed has ruined a series. (I know that there are issues with the game from a gameplay perspective, lack of events and said events being boring, but I can personally look past that as I mostly raced online in 5; 6; and Sport anyway)

Also Mutahar said that this game needs to be connected to internet for every content ? If thats true then thats the biggest issue imo. Every game that has single player campaign SHOULD Be played Offline or atleast Give the players choice to play off/online

Kinda reminds me of GT4 and the German Touring Car Cup (or something similar) on Spec B, I would set it up with the Audi TT TC and let the computer drive the race while I watch TV only checking in during commericals, sending it on to the next race and so forth, at the end one got some credits and the Mercedes AMG CLK GTR which was worth 725K, which I would immediatly sell and either buy cool used cars as the market was rotating or upgrade whatever underpowered car I decided to win a cup with; GT4 also could be grindy without online access, but with Spec B one had a low effort way around it

In gt sport 'practice' in online lobby's counted towards daily miles, but in gt7' it doesn't, I played for like 2 hours and when I quite to the main menu I had 0 daily miles. Like wth.

When you said about using MTX to buy cosmetics exclusively, I instantly thought of Elite: Dangerous. Yes, there are two ships you'd have to pay money for, but they are versions of ships already in the game and the general consensus is that they're worse than their in-game-money counterparts. Aside from those two ships and expansions (one it was Horizons, now it's Odyssey) all the "premium" currency is used for cosmetics and there is absolutely no pay-to-win. And even that currency can be earned through the usual gameplay. Considering they actually give you the currency in small quantities is very nice IMO

It's really stupid to put fixed, "real" market prices in a game (and then not give the players ways of getting quick, relatively easy money). Market prices in real life reflect scarcity and the value that people see in cars, both on themselves and compared to every other car. In a game like GT there's no scarcity, you can have as many McLaren F1 as you want; there's just an illusion of choice, as you'll end up having all cars anyway (IRL you obviously have to choose which cars you'll have, even if you are rich); and cars don't compete with each other in the owners garage, as you can go "drive" them wherever you want for as long as you want, anytime you want, which is something you can't do IRL. There is really no way they can "simulate" the market for cars without letting users make money with the game and/or artificially fucking over the average player with artificial scarcity, microtransactions and all the bad shit they are doing.

Typical modern gaming bullshit. Sadly this isn't even surprising at this point. Just an expectedly sad outcome. Because for some reason the Gran Turismo name isn't enough these days. Because making a great game and selling tens of millions of copies just isn't enough these fucking days. Greed really does kill absolutely everything on a long enough time line.

That's the reason little by little I'm quitting playing new games. They either broken at release, basic feautures missing and added 1 year after launch and greedy microtransactions are priority than have a good game. If games continue to be like that I'm sticking with the old good games and never new ones ever again. AAA gaming is falling apart.

i have played through most of the single player in GT7 within a few days, but my motivation for playing more is basically gone because you have to grind so hard to get cars or anything.

I was having fun doing the Daily Exercise on GT Sport. I would do a few races, get a new car out of it, drive around that new car in a race or two, then hop off till I repeat that same sequence tomorrow. I haven't had the chance to play GT 7 yet because I no longer have a Playstation, but this honestly sounds less like GT and more like EA.

just some info, since i played mostly on gt4 and gt 3, in GT4, the most expensive is 4.5 Million credit, and in DTM event, you will get a car (consistently since the prize is only 1 same car which is CLK GTR 1998 Le Mans one) that is worth 743.789 Cr. that's basically 7 times of doing DTM to get the any most expensive car in the game... 18 Million is straight up 25 times of doing DTM event which is 45 minute to 1 hour per series, AKA 25 hours of grind... which is yikes

Thank you very much for speaking out. GT7 is a great game, but these issues and how they are handled don't do it justice. Kaz and Polyphony Digital KNOW how to make a good game, they were able to implement MTX in GT6 in a way it didn't bother anyone. I really hope that the pressure from players and influencers/streamers/content creators will be enough to make them realize what they are about to loose. EDIT: Stupid me found a typo ^^

With Sony betraying GT7 and sinking it, and Forza 7 delisted and no longer available for purchase... the options for a GT style game have shrunken. Still we have options which include: GRID "We were so close to greatness, we were this close!" Legends, Project "Look how they massacred my boy" CARS 3, GT "Get instabanned for no reason" Racing 2, and Need for Speed "Please patch me oh god!" Prostreet. Perhaps we need to look even older. Good progression can still take long, without having to be a grind of the same god damn event. It should be about progressing to a better level where the payouts increase to compensate for all of the hard work you invested

That's sooo true in older gt games like the 2nd one was my favorite. Atleast there were ways to farm millions of cr. Just by winning one race. Remember that purple car boom 500.000 cr. per car just for selling it. In 2 or 3 races Suzuki Escudo or Cultus was already mine lol. I don't really get why they are doing this for future gt games but it definitely ruins the fun.

I've played the game a little but the grindfest is ridiculous, i've only bought the one car you have to buy at the beginning of the game and i've barely used it because i have the anniversary edition so i had cars that were much better to begin with. I'm afraid of how B-Spec will end up looking like once it inevitably gets introduced in an update. Mark my words, they'll probably have a life system for the Bob's and you'll have to buy additional lives if you want them to participate in more races.

I was going to buy a PS5 for this game. It's a good thing I waited. The last racing game I got on release was NFS Heat and we saw how that turned out. That's the gaming industry. The best move is to stop pre ordering. The thing that consumers need to do is treat the actual release date of a game as its announcement date. Triple A games are all backed by a corporation these days who will take a hit to their reputation as long as it fills their bottom line. Will Sony and Polyphony make a profit off these microtransactions? If they do, it's just more proof that the higher ups who have more money than they know what to do with really shows how rich people with too much money affect the less fortunate in this capitalistic game of modern money now.

I completed all the Cafe missions and was slowly doing other races to build up some credits to buy cool cars, but after the nerf, I just don’t have much motivation. Plus, there’s no events tailored for the cars I want, so I’m just going to go and play Forza Motorsport 7 to get my racing fix til they get their act together for GT7

This reminds me of FM5 when originally the 2 most expensive cars were 6 Mil each and the most you could get from the majority of races was around 15-20K. They later increased the payouts and reduced the price to 2 Mil because of backlash. Funny that GT7 didn't learn from its competitor 9 years ago.

Battle passes are not acceptable unless the game is F2P and actively supported by the devs outside of monetised content. The reason why were games like Most Wanted, GT3 A-spec, Underground Games, Burnout 3 Takedown etc we’re so good was because they weren’t hamstrung by monetisation, you got a full completed product that wasn’t gutted to resell as “dlc”.

I think they have to make more events or possibilities to get credits the limited time car invitation is interesting but i think it should last waaaaaaay longer like a month then u would been able to getvin gt7 just drive with some friends online for 2h per day and ur fine to buy the car i remember i never buyed a car in gt sport for maybe a year and i had something like 19mill credits but this is a game where u should not grind because u get sick of it very fastly u cant expect that u get that much credits in some hours because then the game would been boring too so the probably best method is just progressing in the story dont pay for a single car if u dont have to and grind later when u finished all

The main games entirely online as well, so the massive inevitably repetitive grind or ridiculous money spending to get cars like the McLaren F1 and Porsche 917 will be for nothing eventually anyways. We’ve come a long way since we were able to actually own most of the games we play, and have the save data for those games, since everything is tied to an Xbox, PlayStation or Steam account now, which will also go offline someday as well.

They used to allow us in previous games to pay $1,99 for a car. You could buy it directly from the PS Store. Now this shit?! Before was better. But I have a big feeling this was Sony's doing. Why would Kaz spend years making this only to ruin the economy. He's not stupid. He was forced to do this, is my guess. I was on the verge on pre-ordering but I've been so busy with life, I knew I wouldn't have time to play it. Now I'm glad I've waited. I'll wait more in hopes this gets fixed since it's getting a lot of attention by the looks of it.

To be fair, the cars in the Brand Centre are of reasonable prices. Cars of unobtainable prices are in the Legend Cars, and they've said those cars are dynamically priced according to Hagerty's valuation, causing crazy prices. I have a feeling that GT7 and Hagerty may be in some sort of contract that this feature cannot be removed. Maybe that's the reason why they refuse to lower the prices of legendary cars. (I am not finding excuses for Polyphony. There's nothing that can hide their greed.)

And the biggest problem as said is that if it is profitable for them they will continue doing it and maybe even for future games :(

This game needs more Events that are long and gives you very high price like 1mill cr, and the races that you make like 20 laps Nordschleife must give you more than 50k cr... The Tickets are garbage too...
