Good morning Capt Darren & happy Weekend into Jacksonville FL. That FT-8 fries up everything from wires over Antenna Tuners to Highend Transistors and Tubes of HF Amplifiers. I got some Radio Friends melting their Balun Box. Amidon Core and Copperwiring inside is rated to hold 2KW-PEP and they fried it up with just 350-500W running on FT-8. YFUG is no Digi Mode Guy. AM and SSB are my favourite Modes I operate. Hope you will get the high SWR on your Antenna down to make it work on 80m.as it should. You did a great Job up on the Roof. I put MFJ 933 auto tuner in water tight box, placed it at feed point outside of inverted L ant. it tune all the way down to 1.8MHz and any frequency between, however it works better at 7MHz or higher. Ok on 3.5MHz, marginal on 1.8MHz but I can hear my own signal at Websdr ( Utah ) 700 miles away. AG6JU

I got an inverted L, but since my property is not big enough or dont have a tree on the right place, end up like an inverted C clamp due to the last 15 to 20'. Wire is #14, pvc coated, 135' long. Now, the good thing is, that with just 50' of coax, a 49:1 transformer and a Palstar AT2K manual tuner, I can tune 1:1 from 160 to 6 meters, even on repeaters frequencies. I got a 8' ground on the transformer ground side. You can do that, by doing an individual wire then go up like 30 to 35', then horizontal to another point, then down.

I got me an Apache Labs ANAN-8000DLE MKII SDR 500 Watts radio. It will be out in December 22. Coming from Australia, but got mine from US vendor and paid in full to secure a unit when it comes out. Was looking for an amp, but since now all in one, will test. 73

Folks get obsessed with swr of 1.1!!! I just don't get it, my worry is your S7 of noise, no matter what swr you have , if you can't hear them, you won't work them. If I was in your situation, I would have a loop on the roof, feed it with 2:1 balun and try and get down that S7 of noise, and you may get 80M.

Nice job Darren. 80 looks good on the higher side. I would be wanting to know the SWR without the tuner. Do you have an analyzer?
