Couple more things I'd like to see is an alarm that excludes the weekend and instant stopwatch on the bottom right button like in the Rangeman.

Not being able to read the time during stopwatch mode was a real gripe! Awesome Casio have addressed this :)

A really good step-up. Although loosing the EL backlight for an LED is such a shame and unwanted from me.

Would love to see the day Casio gives me everything I want in a G-shock without any tradeoffs, like turning the EL into an LED 😂

The more I look into casio modules the more I realize they've yet to create the ultimate module, but the features are already there just put it all in one! But this seems like a step in that direction at least.

Yes I don't like when month is used first. For me it caused confusion a few times.

I just got my GW-5000U. I’m very happy with it. For those worrying about the LED backlighting, it’s not bad at all. It’s pretty evenly lit but slightly brighter on the left side. It’s nothing compared to the F-91W.

Auto repeat on the countdown timer is a major one. I don't think I will be switching until they figure that out. Adding seconds is a good start. If you have both it is great for in the garden watering plants. Set timer for seconds of watering, water until the beep, move on to the next plant, and so on. Lets you think about other things instead of counting in your head.

Basically similar to the module used in the Full Metal Square minus the Bluetooth. And if Casio is really listening (not really): Release new Frogman! - size similar to GW200 - full Titanium Body - Multiband 6 + Though Silar - No Bt and NO HANDS! This is my dream high tier G - Shock

Hopefully this update will go across the range such as gx56 or gxw56 series

LED? This is a f..ing nightmare like on the GW9400? Omfg.

LED a big step back, as I love EL. However I have not seen the LED in use so shall reserve judgement.

Thanks! I also prefer the current time on the stopwatch and timer screens. I can see why people would prefer it the other way, for example if you had other clocks around.

Great move by Casio. I had the original GW-5000 but sold it a few years back because of the lack of these features. I also read about the new updated version on g-central so had a GW-5000U imported from Japan - unfortunately there are no plans to release this model in the UK, only EU - what a difference it makes. It’s almost the perfect square. My only criticism is the viewing angles are not as good as other models, anything past approximately 40 degrees and the digits are hard to read, otherwise it’s perfection!

I like the new module. I prefer the LED light to the old EL style.

Got GW-M5610U last week. So much better than the original. I'm also a huge fan of the LED backlight.

Loss of E.L. backlight is a significant enough downgrade that the new features aren't enough for me to choose the 3495 over the older 3159.

A quick search on eBay shows many G-5600U models from Japan going for between $350-$400 US. Just a little steep, but great changes to upgrade a well worth it watch.

Month first is standard in Japan btw. That's why G-Shock have/had it.

Well, if I buy any more 5610’s (I have 3), they’ll have the new module in them. I agree that the LED backlight is a bit of a step back, but the overall change that includes the LED backlight is an upgrade. Love those 5610’s, regardless of which module they have inside!!

I've just purchased the GW-B5600 recently and now only after I bought that that I realized I should've gotten the new 5610u after watching few videos about it.😩 For someone who lives in the Asian region where we don't receive signals from the 6 towers , the added Bluetooth connectibility is a very useful feature as a substitute for the Multiband 6. I use it a lot, everyday. But I feel the need to have the battery level indicator on the face of the watch instead of having to connect the watch to the phone to know how much battery I have left. Although some might say the multiband 6 is a useless feature in the region where I stay, but I managed to sync my GWG-1000 Mudmaster with the JJY app ala MB6 style :) I'm now in a position of whether I should just flip the B5600 for a 5610u or just keep the current B5600 and add the 5610u in my array of watches.

Actually Japan also uses MMDD in addition to the US which is likely why that format was selected.

Not happy about the change to LED, but otherwise nice updates. Can we get a model with these changes that keeps the EL backlight and gets some easier to press buttons in this form factor, Casio?

These are such minor changes. I hope the price drops on the old versions - i"ll pick one up...

I wish they re-introduced the REM on screen and the specific date alarm. In other words...bring back the 691. 😃

If the world time function could show the date in place of the city on the top right & still show 'WT' in the top left...

The light was my biggest complaint.

The LED backlight isn't a bad addition especially with the fade in and fade out effect. It lights up the screen uniformly unlike the ones used on standard casios.

The LCD screen with the blotchy light bursts when activated in the corner of the screen ruins all the other great updates Casio did to this “improved” module.

What about the bad buttons? Does it still has them?

The only thing that I don't like about the new upgrade is the new Led light, it's terrible.....
