Unfortunately he had absolutely no experience if he has 6,000 mile under his belt it would surprise me,He managed 100mph and a few seconds later back to 40mph where the police caught up with him,100mph was clearly uncomfortable for him,Feet dragging so lost a rear brake and gear change sitting over by the kerb just blind terror

The policy wasn't put in place for the fleeing motorcyclist...it was put in place to protect the lives of innocent bystanders that the bike might slam into. The officer knew this and chose to ignore it the same as the dude on the bike decided to ignore his responsibility to pull over. The officer needs to answer for not following the protocol...since you are all about personal responsibility. ..right?

This is false. Very few civilians actually know the policy of the jurisdiction they are in. Runners will run no matter the policy and real runners don't get caught. If the police caused an accident that left you dead or paralyzed i doubt you’d be cheering them on. They risked lives to catch one person who died as a result. The reason those rules exist is because innocent people have been caught up in these police chases and died. Pedestrians, motorists etc. that’s why states have rules not to chase these kinds of suspects.

BINGO! If he wasn't a thug, why did he run? Around fifty years ago I was pursued by a NC State Trooper at 0300 in the morning in a rural area. I opened up enough lead between us in the beginning to avoid my tag being read, turned off my lights and swerved into a side road. I'm satisfied the Trooper knew it was me, because everywhere I went for nearly a year, I had an SHP car behind me. Never got pulled over, but learned from my mistake. Didn't exceed the speed limit after that, and if the blue lights came on, I'd have immediately stopped. The idiot on the bike got what what he deserved, being in heavy traffic like that. I disagree with the retired know it all saying they shouldn't have chased him. If you don't chase, it ENCOURAGES bad behavior.

Same. Have been pulled over 8 different times and only received 1 ticket when I was clocked at 121 mph (also not the fastest I was ever caught going). I pulled over asap, showed and acted with respect. He was nice enough to only write a ticket because he could have impounded the bike and hauled me off to jail on the spot. He was a county sheriff’s deputy. Oddly enough, all 7 other stops were by State Patrol and they all let me go.

Any person who foolishly puts his life and the lives of others in jeopardy by evading law enforcement, is the only person to blame in instances such as this. If you make known that evaders will not be pursued, you will increase the frequency of evasions. One needs only look to California's foolish no arrest for thefts under $1,000.00 laws, to see the resultant increase in thefts under $1,000.00. Question: Do you want all held accountable for their actions or just who engage in behaviors you find personally objectionable? I guessing the latter. Yes, fleeing from a traffic stop is clearly wrong. There is zero excuse for doing so. It is a written rule or law. Policies are also written. Often times for the very same reasons as are laws. When police officers violate their department's policies are they not to be held accountable for those violations? Do they not share the burden of having acted in a manner potentially equally as reckless as those you view as the only bad actor in this equation? What if the cop had struck a car load of kids injuring and killing god knows how many? And for what? To catch some idiot on a bike who is so stupid as to run from a traffic infraction? Bigger things are at risk that collecting a little revenue for the state coiffers. @@scarecrow4013 they never said anything at all about pursuing outside of his jurisdiction. way to listen. that isn't even a thing anywhere, stop watching so many movies. a cop can and will chase you as long as you run, there is no such thing as fleeing across the county line and having the cop let you go. hasn't been for a long time. and we don't know the officer didn't follow policy. we have a smug dude implying that he didn't, but he never said he DIDN'T get authorization, he just implied he didn't. that is all they need, because they know people like you will hear that as "he didn't get authorization". they said "the officer should have got authorization" (did he? is normal department procedure to assume authorization has been given if they don't get ordered to desist? that is normal in a lot of places. they knew he was in pursuit and never told him to stop). they said the officer "is supposed to weigh the risks against the crime". the crime is fleeing and reckless driving, the officer has the discretion to decide if the risks outweigh the crime, like how they decide if an imminent threat is present. that is how an officer can shoot someone who doesn't have a gun, if in the circumstances it seemed like a threat was present. it doesn't mean "never chase a suspect if there is any risk they might get hurt". if you KNOW the guy is only fleeing because of an expired license or because of a parole violation, then no, it isn't worth it. the person is just stupid. with an unknown person attempting to flee, you can assume they are fleeing for a reason.

@@justforever96 If that officer then hit another vehicle in said high speed chase, killing say a newborn child you would not hold that same stance. You can argue hypotheticals all you wish, but understand that works two ways. The fact of the matter is, any blue light chase holds serious risk to all involved including members of the public who are in the area. IF he was authorised to enter that chase, whoever authorised it should be sacked. IF he wasn't authorised, he should be sacked. The manner of driving seen in the video was ridiculously dangerous and I am telling you that from a law enforcement stance. I can guarantee you any officer where I'm from who had done that would be facing manslaughter charges if not more serious ones... It all comes down to proportionality and speculation that the motorcyclist may or may not be linked to a serious crime opposed to a minor one is absolutely not a justification for it.

@@forkthepork No, actually it's very common for defense attorneys to use the "somebody else was driving/riding the vehicle and committed those crimes" argument. If they can prove any amount of reasonable doubt regarding who was driving at that time and actually committed the crime, it's typically enough to get the charges dropped or at the very least lessened. I don't think it should play out like that so often, since it's usually not the truth, but that's the reality. The most they could do in a lot of situations where all they have is a plate, is impound the vehicle if they find it at the registered address. But that doesn't really solve much, hence why it's not common practice.
