I'm surprised anyone in the 21st century still thinks that war leads to a flourishing of technologies when we have lived through the space race, integrated circuits, and cell phones. Also, not all swords can be beaten into plowshares. Cluster bombs and nuclear weapons don't have a lot of other uses than killing people. Putin assumed that Ukraine would simply fold and surrender as soon as his forces showed their intention to invade. He never anticipated for a second that Ukraine would resist like it did. And he *certainly* never imagined the West would assist Ukraine with the military aid it has......And as for Sweden and Finland *also* choosing to join NATO, that also came as an earth moving shock......It has all gone as wrong as it possibly could for Putin. In reality, the *first* thing Putin ought to have done on Finland joining NATO, should have been to immediately pull out of Ukraine and offer talks with Finland and NATO. But no, his solar system sized ego dictated that he must continue this utterly pointless war, in an effort to save him from humiliation on the World stage. And that appears to be going about as well as the rest of his plans.......The Rouble has collapsed, Russia's economy is now no larger than Portugal's, and his nation is now a pariah state, with 141 nations voting against Russia's actions in Ukraine, at the last UN General Assembly......yet still he continues.

There's no need to go to the extra time, effort and expense to make an even more complicated system than what they have. The cheapest, simplest and quickest to manufacture weapon system, that is sufficiently successful, is the best. The great promise of these surface drones is that they get through and they hit target boats. They don't have to sink any of them. They just have to do enough damage to put that ship out of action for expensive and time consuming repairs. This scares the enemy enough to pull those vessels back to the safety of home ports, for fear of attack, taking them out of the fight. The best weapon is the one you don't have to use.
