How’s this for a hot hatch showdown - new Volkswagen Golf R vs Mercedes-AMG A45 S!
On the face of it, these two cars have a lot of similarities. They’re both hot hatches (obviously), they both have AWD, and they’re both powered by 2-litre turbocharged petrol engines.
However, that’s just about where the similarities end! Starting with the Golf R, it can produce 320hp & 420Nm, while it weighs in at 1,551kg. As for the A45 S, well that can produce 421hp & 500Nm, but it also weighs more than the Golf R, tipping the scales at 1,660kg.
However, there’s one key difference between these hot hatches - the price! While the Golf R costs just over £39,000, the A45 S rolls up with a price tag of over £57,000!!
So is it worth it? You’ll have to keep watching to find out!

@@elnoel1220 Yep, and the porsche and GT-R have done their depreciation. But they would be more expensive to run and have the risk of needing expensive repair. And, of course if no-one spends on the expensive new cars, there are no second hand cars for us to pick up as bargains.

@carwow it would be good to see a hatchback remap war, for example the one where you had all the hatchbacks like the fiesta st, polo gti etc but instead with a stage 1 remap and see how each of the remaps changes the car and may get different results

@@TheTechGiantKZfaq you are misleading and lieing. AMG 45 s is base already 51.2k The Golf R is loaded for that money. Head Up Display, big screens. Performance suspension. Yours would be empty af. When you consider discounts you better grant them for both cars. VW always grants big discounts.

Those basic stats are familiar to any petrol head and whilst the comparative races are great it would be even better , and really easy to produce some bald figures to go with them . He did an impromptu 0-60 on the R a few weeks back in the drag race so obviously aren’t completely adverse to it

@@in.m1417 Iwas supposed to buy it. But Dieselgate came around, so they didnt invest in it. Instead i bought a GTI Clubsport MK7 whichs now tuned & modded to Stage 1 @ 370hp /462tq. My tuner have crazy upgrades for it and Golf R & say both should be pushing around 700 hp with that. Now that would be insanely scethy on a FWD car like GTI CS iknow. But thers guys pushing 540hp in it on youtube now with nutty turbo swaps & stuff! 😄 👍

That Golf R is making way more then advertised thats for sure. The a45 (with 100 more hp supposedly)was barely pulling on it and its only 7% heavier with 31% more power 🤔. Plus it trapped almost 160 in the standing mile. You're not doing that with 320hp at the crank. You'll be lucky to do that with 320 to the wheels.
