Yep, was just about to post this. They have to bring back Benjamin Bartlett to compose another phenomenal score. If not him, then someone of a similar caliber, who can replicate Bartlett's style. The OST was one of the underlying reasons why WWD and WWB were so good.

i watched the original _Walking with Dinosaurs_ AS IT AIRED. i was in elementary school at the time and wrote out it in one of my workbooks when we were told to tell a short story. i don't know which is my favorite, but--perhaps predictably--"Cruel Seas" and the liopleurodon probably left the biggest impression since that's what i wrote about in school
@govardhanposina17
@govardhanposina17 Ай бұрын
Cruel Sea was incredibly impactful to me as a kid too, especially the opening and the ending being the perhaps the first time kid me understood that even apex predators weren't invincible beings in their ecosystem and life would come to a stop, sooner or later, no matter how massive or dangerous you as an individual organism are
@Emperor_Oshron
@Emperor_Oshron Ай бұрын
@@govardhanposina17 yeah, the liopleurodon's death was what i'd written about, too. while i'd probably heard of beached whales before then, i think that was the first time it was really put into words for my WHY those big sea creatures stay in the water.

@@user-ze3lk1ov5b For me there is still to many disagreements in the world of paleontology in regards to this dinosaur to include it in a documentary of this scale. The inclusion of the Lourhiña formation would be interesting to anyone who remembers Dinosaur Revolution, the second episode of which focuses on an Allosaurus europeus who grows up with his lower jaw being broken. Considering there was a lot of overlap between Lourhiña and Morrison, I’m guessing the latter formation won’t be making an appearance.

I watched the 1999 show as a teenager and was fascinated by it (favorite episode was Cruel Seas) Did I care about scientific inaccuracies? Meh, yeah. Did it bug me at all? NO. It was a masterclass of paleo storytelling that I dare to say outmatches Prehistoric Planet. The latter is still a godsend for anyone interested in dinosaurs, but for a story, WWD is literal peak. And to hear that this amazing show will be returning in awesome. I don’t care how late I have to stay up to watch the episodes when they air (if they air) or how long I have to wait til I can get my hands on them in streaming, I’m just so damn happy. I cried when I first saw Prehistoric Planet’s intro, and it’s a reasonable bet that I’ll be crying again. If the last couple months have been a celebration of the king of the monsters and his costars, then now it’s time for the kings of prehistory. Chaos Theory, Jurassic VII, and now WWD 2 are all looking to make the coming months absolutely spectacular for dinosaur fans. Cheers, my paleo brethren!!!

the original WwD is the reason I was a dino freak as a kid and I still hold it as the gold standard in dinosaur documentaries to this day. with such a high standard to live up to I'm nervous, but also optimistic - I'm sure the showrunners know just how dearly a lot of people hold the original series, and wouldn't be surprised if they're equally fond of it, so I'm sure they're going in keen to live up to expectations. as for my own expectations I will say I really hope we get at least one episode following a pterosaur and another following a marine reptile, just like the original series. I think WwD's combination of "character-focused" storytelling while also portraying a community of organisms with many moving parts and interactions is a big part of what made the original so great, and I hope the new one adheres to that winning formula. also this may be jumping the gun since it's only just been announced, and after 25 years at that, but I would really love to see this pave the way for an eventual brand new series of Walking with Beasts as well - dinosaurs have been enjoying a lot of publicity these past few years (and rightly so) but the Cenozoic deserves love too!

I did saw it when I was a kid. 'Time of titans' aswell 'Giant of the skies' were my favourite episodes. diplodocus was my favourite of the series. colossal sauropods that sound like whales and stand their ground and fight. or the dramatic music how the ornithochierus (NOT tropeognathus) flew over the ocean and over a herd of iguanodons. the music, the diversity of animals. its still gold! Prehistoric Planet is a close second. I like they ONLY set in 66MYA for the fact this was the time they went extinct. it shows what animals did live during the CT-event

I watched the "Walking" series a zillion times with my kids. I'm pretty sure it meant more to me than them. But after Apple's astounding "Prehistoric" achievement, the standard has gone stratospheric. I totally looooove being transported 100 million years back in time--when all the Earth's creatures lived in peace, sharing the bounty of planetary resources and beaming with the joy of raising each others' sweet lil sauropedies together! There's just no Zoic like the Mesozoic.

Yes, I know, many young people (especially Americans) will say that they copy Prehistoric Planet, But as a European who grew up with his nature documents, it will make sense and is actually something I missed in the original series. To leave an actual comment, I loved every episode of the original series but Giant of the Skies was my personal favourite. I now know it had a ton of inaccuracies (they all did in hindsight) but I loved the great span of the journey it followed, loved the great diversity of species that featured, was one of the most informative with how it presented the way the world was changing at the time, and imo it had the best "character drama" of all the regular episodes. RIP king. If I had to pick a single new species to feature as the "protagonist" of the episode, I think it'd be interesting to see some sort of mid-sized animal take the spotlight. You either had giants like Diplodocus, T-Rex and (the very inaccurately-sized) Liopleurodon in the starring role or little guys like Llaelynosaura or Coelophysis. Both of those are compelling in their own way for obvious reasons, but show me something along the lines of what life was like for a mid-sized carnivore who was big enough to throw its weight around but not the top dog in its ecosystem - Ceratosaurus is the best example I can think of. To make a prediction rather than a wish, I think the recent discovery of Icthyotitan, the newly-described giant Icthyosaur that was probably the largest reptile ever and is jockeying with the blue whale for the title of biggest animal ever will drive one episode, especially as the remains were discovered in Somerset in the UK. That would tick two boxes at once, it would both serve as a Triassic episode and the obligatory ocean episode.

I was hoping something would come out next year to signify and celebrate 100 years of dinosaurs in media. It would be great if Kenneth branagh returned, if they can't get him on then we NEED Nigel Marven!! And as for spinosaurus, I knew it was the calm before the storm, Spino is finally getting recognised in media again.

My favorite episodes of the original Walking with Dinosaurs were also Cruel Sea and Giant of The Skies, though the later is probably my favorite of the two. Something about the story of the ornithocheirus' (Who at the time I just remembered as the pterosaur with the really cool crest.) doomed journey just really stuck with me. It also left me with the false impression that it was bigger than the actually creature was, just like the liopleurodon in Cruel Sea. I'm so excited to finally see Spinosaurus getting it's chance to shine, especially when I'd had so much hope for it to appear in Prehistoric Planet. My only question is where it will be streaming. The picture of the news announcement in the video says something about the series returning to BBC One and BBC iPlayer, but I've never heard of those before.

Yes, I watched the OG WWD, though back in 2013 and not 1999. I was barely born in 1999. My favorite episode was probably the Morrison Formation (Late Jurassic US, featuring Allosaurus, Diplodocus, and Stegosaurus) one (Time of the Titans). I hope that they show Deinocheirus, Gigantoraptor, Microraptor, Quetzalcoatlus, Therizinosaurus, and Yutyrannus. Gigantoraptor, Microraptor, Yutyrannus weren't even described (or possibly even discovered) yet back in 1999 and arguably weren't even imaginable back then. Our understanding of Deinocheirus, Quetzalcoatlus, and Therizinosaurus is drastically different in 2025 compared to 1999. I'm sadly a bit skeptical that Stegosaurus will be featured in the new series. Assuming that, like the OG WWD, each episode only features one formation / ecosystem, I can't see them spending a whole episode on the Lourinha Formation (where Lusotitan is found) and a whole episode on the Morrison Formation, given how similar the fauna is in both. Stegosaurus is conclusively known from the Morrison but only tentatively assigned to the Lourinha as of now.

Funny how there seems to be little love for the T-Rex episode amongst WWD fans.

As a kid we didn’t have any child friendly TV channels, so little me watched Balad of Big Al literally every single day. I absolutely loved the special (even more than the actual series). I really liked all of the series!

Not only did Prehistoric Planet take place in the Cretaceous, it took place in the final days of the Cretaceous!

The original Walking with Dinosaurs was my first introduction to dinosaur documentaries. Although I watched an edited(?) version of it called Prehistoric Planet on Discovery Kids back in the day. I'm not sure if anyone else remembers that or not. I am super hyped to see this fantastic series return!

Please include the most recent dinosaurs that the public haven’t seen or heard of and bring back some of the favorites too.

This must be a dream! WWD returning and Spinosaruas is in it. We are Dino fans are going through what Godzilla fans, like myself, went through.

I feel like 2 of the other episodes will focus on marine and flying reptiles for a wider view just like the original shoe Maybe Hatzegoptyrex Or Quetzalcoatlus Mosasaurus Or Tylosaurus Archelon Or Pterodactylus

I think they may set the flying episode around either an early Bird or a late pre-bird species. The Marine episode around a cold oceanic area, maybe somewhere close to the Poles, WWD and other series have done plenty of warm tropical episodes about Marine Life.

I grew up watching WwD, so i am excited to see it brought back. I hope to see a few new dinosaurs in the TV series, not seen in the original. Maybe a arctic-themed episode featuring polar dinosaurs set in prehistoric Alaska or Siberia would be cool to see. I hope they do a remake of the sequel series Cenozoic Era themed Walking with Breasts too.
