Great insights I also enjoyed this as I own a Piaget Polo Chronograph, the blue and white panda with blue rubber strap. Bought a year ago, really enjoy it. Agree it’s essentially a great value quality Aquanaut alternative, it’s great on the rubber strap. They’ve not yet perfected tapered bracelets Love to see a Polo heritage line, but they need to something else unique for brand image

I had a Piaget Polo 18k gold in the early 90s with Roman column links- gorgeous watch, I regret selling for gold on bracelet. Watch itself not worth much. Coolest bracelet ever! Only problem was 36 diameter.

The sapphire midcase reminds me of the 5 window from minase.

Hodinkee isn’t influential enough to introduce watches to a whole new world of people. 😂 Nobody outside of watch nerds knows who they are. I got into watches, then heard about Hodinkee. Then I quickly realized they were pretentious douches.

Some watchmakers have astounding ability but no recognition. Piaget is a great example of one of these. I guess they tend to be super high end so they don't really care about what us oi polloi think.

Was never a fan of the octofinissimo, don’t like the case, just doesn’t do it for me. The brownish/burgundy lacquer dial octo roma is just so clean and beautiful, you have to see it in person to fully appreciate that lacquer dial. Would be nice if it had the micro rotor movement

Re: the kids watches. I have a Swatch x Hodinkee all white watch that I believeee came with the blue and white children's flik flak swatch that I also purchased with my Swatch. I bought it so I can match with my kid one day!

Guys I think you missed the point or rather Piaget did. The Polo S is a reinvention of the Emperador which has the exact same case shape. They should of made the connection better as a reinvention because they are great watches for the price. IMO they look better than the Aquanaut. But people say they are a copy which is not correct. Both PF and Piaget had similar watches before with the Emperador : Aquanaut when no one really cared. Now they do because the PF is unreachable for most. So I applaud Piaget for saying we did it to and it’s pretty damn good ! They just need to make the connection back so people realise it’s not a quick copy to catch up.

What if Piaget needed to make a new generation of Polo. Just update and better the design to hit the market and become more desirable ?

I went to a high end boutique in Houston and saw Lange, VC, GS, Rolex. The Polo S blue dial was one of the best looking watches I saw all day. I may be in the minority but I could give af about what a watch “represents”. I just want it to look awesome to me.

It blows my mind that the IWC Ingenieur is positioned right next to the octo finissimo in price. The Ingenieur feels so pedestrian in comparison.

Piaget Polo is such a value prop I do think Talking Watches is a before and after in watches.

I don’t know squat about Piaget. The only reference I have to one is in film. And that’s how I think of Piaget and what/whom it represents. Steve Martin’s character Neal Page in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. He wore a 31mm Piaget Polo 18kt gold quartz. Look it up. Piaget to me represents an upper-middle-class-square-white-businessman.

I used to work at a Piaget boutique. I did inventory over the holiday season. Their watches are decent. I would go for omega or rolex over them anyday.

Not gonna lie the polo piaget looks fabulous ill get one even tho it looks like the aquanaut ill get the polo instead less headache dont have to wait to beg to take my money. Now ill still will get a patek philippe just a different watch now

That's an interesting take on Piaget, a brand I don't hear much about. In that same vein, I would really love to hear what people think of Chaumet watches. The Chaumet Dandy just seems like a steel sports watch that is being slept on hard for the last few years.

If the story about the clock is true, let the power company know, because the home is not getting the correct time error correction. Or maybe he is using a clock meant for a different country. And Kermit having a large collection of watches with a 300k min price would have been great.

Piget have to bring aesthetics from last century, this is easy...bring the square shapes, peocisous metals and exotic stone dials...Tiger eye, Lapis Lazuli...i would stablish thar as modern grails

I love the way the polo perpetual looks, and i have heard they really improved the bracelet construction on this model. I really want the watch but.. it's a sports watch with 30m water resistance. I can't make this my go anywhere watch and because of that, i will never buy one.

I have to disagree with Michael on the Oris caliber 400 being a "beautiful movement". It is an amazing movement, it is as good, or actually way better, than a company of the size of Oris should come out with. It is nothing short of a technological marvel, but it is by no means beautiful. It is not hand finished, not even machine decorated. It is a great movement, but only if beauty is the one thing you do not look for.

Piaget is to Cartier like Omega is to Rolex. The gap is too wide to clear.

I don't think many kids will be interested in a 4K watch. Hodinkee have lost a lot of their credibility over the last few years.

The Polo really is just the worst design in the integrated design sports watch market and it's got no identity. I'd even recommend a Hublot over that. If someone gave me that cheap looking Aquanaut knock-off, I'd sell it for 100 bucks.

Also, watches are a super niche industry most adults are not eager to show that video. You said you sent it to so many people to show to their kids, I guarantee they didn’t. Just relax. Also don’t say John Mayer episode is genius and then Say it isn’t. They struck gold with the idea and so many of watch content creators are trying to follow suit including yourself.

I started watching the Hodinkee video with Kermit and closed it within 10 seconds because I found it awful, and that's exactly what I thought Christian was going to say.... Now, given his open criticism when its due, and considering he's praising the video, I'll have to give it a chance.

As a father to a wonderful 2 year old girl, something that will help me introduce my interests and passions to my child and form a new connection with her will certainly capture my attention (and then my $$$)
