New Water in Star Citizen

Patch 3.23 introduces new water physics and a buoyancy for some objects. Ship are still destroyed in the ocean and you can't swim in them. Rivers on microTech and Hurston planets also benefit from these changes.

For a first itaration I think it's quite nice. Usually you don't look at the water with a lot of focus. Right now from far away it looks really good and up close is relatively bad. But then again, changes will come and you don't fly over water too often.

I hope sometime soon they start implementing general audio fixes. I know everyone is stoked about the water but the audio engine is fucking terrible right now, ships and people are sometimes silent, pop in and outs, it’s got zero continuity and makes it feel so off putting from what you actually experience

I use Tobii Eye Tracker, but i heard there is a budget friendly-software that use webcam .

imagine if each planet had actual moon physics too. which i mean if they want to be scietifically accurate the moon effect on wild life would have to also be a factor meaning if one moon is large the other is smaller does one moon orbit the other ? wild life would be more complex on a 2 or 3 moon planet i would multiply the natural limb formation etc because of astrological tidal motion during gestation of a embrio or groth of a plant it's all about Extruding a loop every point being a segment of the body or orghanizm like CIG are NOT as creative or understanding at this point hoping to find someone to talk to at citizencon who i can seed these ideas with espcially when it pertains to Landscape teraforming if we want biomes to be self replicating and self decaying.

Dude. Master Modes are in 3.23. You can take all the "scietific accuracy" and throw it out the window. It's an arcade now.

I play with 84 FOV, but i often zoom the camera for cinematic shots.

Reminds me of water development in a lot of games (Warthunder is a great example) .. They'll start out with a deforming mesh like this then they realize there's no point in using all those resources and switch back to decals, particles and texture maps only. Honestly the deforming mesh doesn't even look that good.

Sadly, you can't simulate decent weather with just "decals, particles and texture maps". Mainstream games that have storm weather utilize either mesh, geometry shaders or some combination. GTA 5 relies on mesh.

In this case they will not revert back to just textures because they have boats in Star Citizen, so they need proper water mesh deformation physics. Also, they have been building out dynamic storm formations as part of Planet Tech V5, including wind, lightning, and thunderstorms that can impact biomes, characters, fauna, and ships. Additionally, they are also working on submersibles, because some planets in some solar systems have cities located under water. So yes, they will need good water physics, which is why they have been working on optimised mesh, texture, decal, and particle water effects for both SQ42 and Star Citizen.

Well, i probably fly once in a year over an ocean, in first person, so for what are these effects? I never see them anyway😂 and zow much places we have with water? Hursten microtech and clio i think. Waste of dev time
